Commander 2019 Spoilers
We won't see spoiled cards for a couple weeks, but we may know the themes, because some store had this on their product page:
Quote:
Each deck has a returning keyword ability as its main theme. The four featured abilities are populate, flashback, morph, and madness.

I hope it's true, because I never really keep the decks together, so these themes seem way better in an "incorporate the cards into other decks" way.

Better take this time to make sure you already own Masks before they break it and spike prices!

How does Mask work with morph creatures? Can you "cast" them face down for 0, or does it have to be the cc on the front of the card?

You have to pay based on the cost on the front of the card. (This seems like a question for the rules section.)

Illusionary Mask's Oracle Text specifically refers to it's Mana Cost, so, it's not just the CMC, it's the actual Mana Cost. So, you, for example, can't activate Mask to cast Savannah Lion by paying :g:. As far as I know, the card having a Morph Cost, only effects what can be done with the Creature once it is in play. Since the ability of Mask specifically refers to Mana Cost, I don't think you can ever cast something with Morph off Mask for :3:, since I am unaware of any Morph thing that actually has a Mana Cost of :3:.

Despite being played less over the last few years the price has done nothing but go up.

You have to pay at least their normal cost like any other creature.
BUT! If you want to turn them face-up you can using their morph ability. They will also trigger any "when you turn this face up" ability if they had one.
Mask has no interaction whatsoever with a DFC, before anyone asks. A DFC can be cast as a face-down 2/2.

God DFC are such a logistical nightmare. The fact that these are legal but I can't play my gold bordered from monoliths is beyond retarded

The logistical nightmare is well worth it to have given blue the best aggressive creature which wasn't at all idiotic.

Re: Commander 2019 Spoilers
The TLDR on Ill. Mask is that once a creature is printed with 0-2 cmc (upper right of card) + morph ability that say "win the game," the unmorph cost is actually zero [when played face-down via Mask] regardless of how much it's supposed to cost. Flipping over a Mask'd-in creature can be rolled into a mana ability making it faster than split second (i.e. any card that looks remotely like Springleaf Drum).
So I'm only half-joking when I advise people to buy Mask while they can; it's the only card that makes unmorph cost 0 - and one look at the text box of this card tells you they'll never reprint a card that does this. It's really only a matter of time before WotC pairs low cmc with game-breaking ability hidden behind high [honest] unmorph cost.
P.S. what is DFC? Down-facing card???

Double face card. Sorry for setting this all in motion.

I think something is getting lost here. You can't turn a face-down creature face-up just because you want to. Even with mask a creature can only be turned face up if it has a morph ability (and you still have to pay full cost for that ability), or using Mask's built-in replacement effect (deals damage, receives damage, assigns damage, or becomes tapped). If someone has a swords to plowshares, or a fatal push, you'll have to turn the creature face-up for it's normal cost.
Double-faced card. transform cards.

Nope-(ish), I think you've misread what I'm talking about.
The moment you tap a Mask'd creature = replacement effect -> face-up it. Morph/Megamorph is not needed to turn a face-down Mask'd creature face-up. Mask does however work exactly like you'd want it to if the face-down guy has the Morph/Megamorph ability. I was referencing Springleaf Drum; if you can tap a guy at will you can "un-mask" any time you feel like it. Without such an enabler, you merely need to declare an attack. Pretty much any declare block step will also suffice if opponent is compliant.
The thing it doesn't do is put a Delver face-down as a 3/2 flying.

Re: Commander 2019 Spoilers
I was holding off on preordering, then I realized that no matter what garbage they print, I am going to buy them all anyway, because I am an animal and have a problem. Completeness for completeness' sake. I have every one of the decks, except the 2016 ones (unfortunately).
At least eBay had bonus bucks right now...
-
Re: Commander 2019 Spoilers
Last ones I bought was when they did the 4-colour commanders, but since my EDH friends have now moved to playing only in proxies so I never buy any cards these days.

Well, even more absurdly, I buy all these, but I barely get to play Legacy once a month, and then I play EDH less than once every 3-4 months.
I'm addicted to collecting though...but with the prices on those 2016 ones, likely I never get them to have "all" of them.

This is why I've decided to collect only parts of magic that are affordable. Like just the Oversized cards from the Commander decks. Under five bucks and I can get the whole set every year. Shuffle them into your scheme deck for the ultimate Type 4 Madness!

I never personally liked Type 4. But how does one use Schemes in Type 4, or am I misunderstanding what Type 4 is here?
Honestly, I had a "Type 5" pile, that I made when I took my Cube apart since it was rarely ever played. Type 5 is something from the old TMD days, where rather than unlimited mana, you play spells as "Lands" that tap for their Mana Cost. There are no actual Lands in the pile. It's actually pretty neat, games are fast, swingy, and absurd without being totally off the rails (to me).

Play them as sorceries. Ongoing as enchantments.

I play Legacy about 4 times a year at the moment but will buy cards for my legacy deck (though it's usually cheap stuff from new sets). Play EDH pretty much every weekend but never buy cards for it. Funny how it goes.

Ah, ok. Neat. I have (I think) at least one of every Scheme. Also have the Planes for Planechase. 4 player EDH with Planechase using the "Planar Map" might well be the most fun way to play Magic to me. We once worked in Archenemy in there, but everyone quit when I had Welder, Sundering Titan (it was still legal back then), 3 extra turns queued up from Otaria, and something like 11 or 12 cards in hand from Your Puny Minds Cannot Fathom,
I mean, I don't blame them, I think my tree opponents collective had 4 permanents at that point...

Planar Map is legit the most fun way to Planechase. If I could pick up a set of the planes for $40 bucks, I'd do so even though I rarely get to play anymore. :frown:
What do you do with all your Commander Pre-Cons? Leave them sealed? Or play with them without modifying? Otherwise, why not just buy the singles from them...
-

Yeah, I don't even remember last time I had the time to play Planechase. But I am glad I have all the Planes, that I bought fairly cheap when they first came out, since no one really cared about them then.
I just crack all my pre-cons and put them in 9-pocket pages, in binders, like every other "set." Could I buy just all the "new" cards as singles? Sure. Would it save me money? I guess, but probably not all that much, so I just spend the bit more and get all the reprints as well. Not to mention it's just easier to buy and easier to organize.
Plus, "completeness" really appeals to me, even if over 60% of the stuff I am unlikely to really ever need, especially since I usually try to focus on original printings, not reprints, where realistically feasible. In the old days though, I had numerous EDH decks ready to go, since we played often. Off the top of my head, I can recall having Rosheen, Damia, Shirei, Numot, Rhys, Teysa, Oros, Sedris and Zur all together at the same time. I might have even had over 10 at one point and none were really "suffering" in card choices to the others, so having a "deep" collection does really appeal to me. Even if it's only in "prospective" and not "actual" use.
Like I said though, I have a problem...

Likely a new mechanic. But this is really the wrong thread for all this, since it's for Throne of Eldraine, not C19.
