[Tournament] 3/15 Boston (Sommerville,) MA
ANNOUNCING!! Legacy at Your Move Games in Boston (Somerville) MA!
- Date: Saturday, March 15th
- Start Time: 12:30pm (the store opens at noon, the tournament will start promptly at 12:30)
- Type: Legacy (1.5) - This event will be DCI Sanctioned
- Cost: $10
- Location: Your Move Games, 389 Highland Avenue, Somerville, MA, 02144 (right off the Davis Square T Stop)
The tournament will be Swiss with a cut to Top 4 (or Top 8 if we get a large enough turnout.) Prizes will still be based on turnout, but they will be actual card prizes now, and at the very least I can guarantee a Tarmogoyf for first (of course, if we get more people the prize support will be greater, and it's up to participants if we want a more top-heavy payout or not.)
Please feel free to let me know you're coming, and let me know what kind of prizes you'd like to see. I'd also like feedback on raising the price to $10- do you like the change, or would you prefer the $5 entry and smaller prizes?
In case anyone is interested, I will be judging the tournament, and it will be run at REL Regular.
If you have any questions, PM me or e-mail Evn [dot] Tomeny [at] Gmail [dot] com. I hope to see you there!

Re: [Tournament] 3/15 Boston (Sommerville,) MA
You mispelled Somerville. And I'm probably not going to be able to go to another tournament until May. I took apart all of my decks and I'm in the process of investing money on a new deck. Sorry I can't make it. If you can lend me a decent deck, Evn, I might be able to go though.
P.S. - And even if I buy cards for a new deck in a week from now, they probably won't come in the mail until later than the 15th.

I do that every other week, Oh wait, I am a TRADEWHORE and that would explain why I always have what people need.
Evn, I will be there
Cav, I will try and build you something if you can't put your cards into a pile of 60 cards.

Thanx for the offer Bill. But if I mail a money order I should be able to get the cards in time *hopefully*. I still need some stuff for the deck though. Trade me 4 Ghostly Prison and 2 Extirpate if you have any bro (the Extirpate is for a different deck, mind you).

Re: [Tournament] 3/15 Boston (Sommerville,) MA
I'm afraid that that weekend, I'll be at the gaming weekend they have at WPI. Maybe next time... I don't think too many players cross-demographic that much, though...

You're not talking about Total Confusion, are you? Cuz I thought that was going on right now.
I'm sorry you can't make it, but we'll keep holding them, so you can come to the next one :)

EDIT: Hrm... The date is different than from the site... because they didn't update it. It won't be for another 3 weeks after! Guess I'll show up...

I will be there along with the (un)official www.mtgthesource.com playmat for those interested in signing it

Yup, I'll be there. I'll try to round up a couple more too.

I'll be there with 1-3 other people.

Re: [Tournament] 3/15 Boston (Sommerville,) MA
I'll see if i can crash at my sister's that weekend (its a prety open invite) and if i can i'll definetly make this, might even drag either my sister or brother in law with me.
Guess that makes me an "i'll try" for now.
-
Re: [Tournament] 3/15 Boston (Sommerville,) MA
Change of plans, I probably won't be there. Since I'm totally broke after Hadley and need to save my entry fee money for ELD's Lotus tourney on the 29th, it looks like I'll miss this unless I manage to find an extra $15 this week for entry and parking. Sorry.
-
Re: [Tournament] 3/15 Boston (Sommerville,) MA
After the last tournament, players seemed pretty unanimous about raising the entry fee to support better prizes, but lately I've gotten a fairly decent response from players who don't want the entry fee raised. Anyone have a problem with a $5, or even a $3 entry fee? Then it's not so much about the prizes, but just about getting together on a Saturday to play some Legacy.

I'll be there either way, I just prefer to play for something a little more interesting. In my opinion, $10 is still really cheap for a tournament.
-
Re: [Tournament] 3/15 Boston (Sommerville,) MA
I agree, $10 is pretty cheap for a tournament.
-
Re: [Tournament] 3/15 Boston (Sommerville,) MA
The way the prize structure is, i say leave it at $10.
Its now almost certain that I'll be making it to this one.
-
Re: [Tournament] 3/15 Boston (Sommerville,) MA
I'm still definitely down for playing at whatever price and think 10 is a good number.
In the spirit of inclusion I will pay the entry fee for whoever plays this:
// Lands
2 Karakas
2 Mishra's Factory
4 City of Brass
2 Dryad Arbor
1 Savannah
4 Flooded Strand
4 Tundra
// Creatures
1 Tarmogoyf
3 Phyrexian Dreadnought
3 Volrath's Shapeshifter
3 Vesuvan Shapeshifter
// Spells
3 Attunement
1 Saproling Burst
1 Pandemonium
2 Parallax Wave
2 Ghostway
3 Intuition
2 Parallax Tide
2 Living Plane
4 Careful Study
2 AEther Flash
3 Opalescence
3 Replenish
3 Humility
It has tarmogoyf so you know it's competitive.
Looking forward to this. Last tournament was great fun.

I would, but I don't own over half of those cards... and I own a lot of cards.

Needs more Tarmogoyf.

Can we just rename Tarmogoyf 'Cowbell' and be done with it?
Doesn't Humility erm... screw with your combos since Replenish brings back all enchantments and you can't pick and choose?

Are you going to provide the cards? If so, I'll happily play that.

Humility screws with a lot of things. The idea was to give lego something fun to do every round since he is judging.
I wasn't expecting to be called out on it twice. But, no, I can't build that deck completely. Why would I build a deck and pay you to play it? Where is the sport in that? But if you can and play it I will pay your entrance fee. (Limited to one player more for avoidance of the mirror in the 0-3 bracket than anything).
Needs more Tarmogoyf? A bit dry isn't it?

He could be studing the Judge's handbook.

Honestly, rules questions like that aren't the biggest headache we have to deal with. If you want "big headache.dec", then you missed Dark Confidant and Sensei's Divining Top, just as a start.
But seriously... can that deck actually win games?

It certainly could win games but I can't think of a single legacy deck it would win against. Maybe reanimator.
Has anyone tried replenish? It is like salvagers game a bit but without the vulnerability to chalice 0,1 and counter top. It is just high CC and slow.
Why was confidant and top so hard? Were people wanting to top after revealing to change the value?
@Cavius
You get a deck to play yet?
It ended like this:
This thread has a one way express ticket to suck-town.

I don't think I'm going. I'm in the process of building a new deck and I hate borrowing cards from people.
Decks I'm working on...
"Nourishing Lich"
"Spanish Inquistion"
and "Jank Sligh" - exact name soon to be announced.
-
Re: [Tournament] 3/15 Boston (Sommerville,) MA
Show up for moral support. I may have a random jank deck for you to play.
-
Re: [Tournament] 3/15 Boston (Sommerville,) MA
Is the $10 dollar entry fee set in stone?

If you're interested, I have SI built (obviously), and I was planning on playing something else. I know you just said you hate borrowing cards, but I'm just saying...
-
Re: [Tournament] 3/15 Boston (Sommerville,) MA
Thanx for the offers guys, but I definitely can't make this one. I'm definitely going to start going to these things once I get Nourishing Lich built. Evn, sell me your Underground Seas!

So who won out of the Top 4?
P.S. - Great tournament, awesome people, nice gathering, definitely will go again.
Extra kudos to B.C. for loaning me a deck. =)

Top 2 split... Dragon Stompy and R/W Vial Goblins (B.C.?)
-
Re: [Tournament] 3/15 Boston (Sommerville,) MA
Is it possible to get a top 8 (4?) and head count for people who didn't show up maybe?

How many people showed up? Assuming there was a Top 8, what did it look like?

Only like 8?
2 Vial Goblins, 1 SI, 2 Dragon Stompy, 1 TES (myself), 1 monowhite angel stompy variant, 1 burn?

Re: [Tournament] 3/15 Boston (Sommerville,) MA
Yeah, we got just enough people to make it sanctioned. It was great fun though and playing laid back amongst friends beats playing in any major tournament. I had a great time.
