I'm glad you're doing this, Anton. I will definitely attend, and drag along as many Portlanders as I can.

One thing, though... If you end up getting, say, 20 or more people for this thing, are you going to bump up the prize support?

For any of the Pacific Northwesters who are thinking about going to this thing...

Anton posted on www.northwestmagic.com earlier today to say that he will upgrade the 1st prize to 4x Underground Seas if the tournament draws 27+ people. The other prizes will also be upgraded depending on attendance.

That's the day I head West. Sorry...I know I usually drive to these things for the Portland Crew.

I'm hoping to make it down for this one, and hopefully bringing another couple Canadians with me

Update for the Portland Crew - I think it's Ricardo, Chris (Volt), Me, and Abe are coming up to this thing. Hopefully we can get a few more Source'ers and Ninjas to make and appearance and hit that 27.

It's looking pretty good so far. I've been to couple larger vintage these past couple weeks and spoken to a lot of guys who said they'd attend.

I split the tourny - getting $125 cash and $65 in store credit.

I might post a mini tournament report later / I'm really lazy and might not.

    Congrats on the finish!

Who else made Top 8? Any Portlanders? Any other Ninjas?

Nope. Very few ninjas even showed up. Brian was the only other one, and he went 1-3 drop. He decided to play Dreadstill instead of his usual Madness deck. We got paired in the first round, naturally, and I started his day on a bad note.

I went 3-2 with Countersliver. Lost a nail-biter to Dragon Stompy, and got crushed by Nick after mulliganing to 5 in game 1 and 4 in game 2. Whee. I beat Dreadstill, Goblins, and Survival.

26 people at the tournament. There were 5 Dreadstill decks, and none made Top 8.

That's funny, when Two made Top 8 at the SCG $5K event.

Ahhhh, but which colors? Which particular builds? Also, how experienced were the pilots? Dreadstill seems like a deck that benefits from long & strenuous practice & manipulation. Finally, what was the meta? That is always a concern in Legacy, where a deck that shines in one area can be absolutely the wrong choice in another. Gratz on the decent turnout, though, hopefully this becomes habitual.

A casual stasis deck? You must not really like your friends. Do you play it before or after you pull the wings off of flys and microwave the neighbor's cat? - EwokSlayer

Re: Legacy at Mirkwood Sun June 21st for a playset of volcanics

Alright I'll cut to the chase; here's my deck list:

    Team America

    4 Tombstalker
    4 Tarmogoyf

    4 Brainstorm
    4 Ponder
    4 Stifle
    4 Force of Will
    4 Daze
    4 Thoughtseize
    3 Snuff Out
    4 Sinkhole
    2 Pernicious Deed

    4 Wasteland
    4 Polluted Delta
    4 Flooded Strand
    4 Underground Sea
    2 Tropical Island
    1 Bayou

    Sideboard:
    4 Tormod's Crypt
    2 Blue Elemental Blast
    3 Hydroblast
    3 Krosan Grip
    1 Pernicious Deed
    2 Engineered Explosives

    Break down of top 8

For names all I know is Cory was ATS, Anton was CounterTopGofy, and Lenard was Merfolk.

    Round 1
Tempo Thresh vs Dragon Stompy --- Tempo Thresh Wins
Hyppy/Gofy vs ATS (Survival) --- ATS Wins
Zoo Sligh vs Team America --- Team America Wins
Merfolk vs CounterTopGoyf --- CounterTopGoyf Wins

    Round 2
Tempo Thresh vs ATS --- Tempo Thresh Wins
Team America vs CounterTopGoyf --- Team America Wins

    Round 3
Split between me and the Tempo Thresh guy

The following is a brief overview of my tournament rounds.

    Round 1
I play against Cory who Top8'ed w/ ATS. Game one I win as he mulls to 5 and plays less Goyfs then me. Game two I board in +2 Tormod's Crypt +2 Krosan Grip +2 Engineered Explosives +1 Pernicious Deed. I Explosives and Deed everything he plays and win with Tombstalker.

    Round 2
I play against Chris playing CounterSlivers. He mulls to 5 game one and 4 game two, giving my deck and easy victory.

    Round 3
I play against the Zoo/Sligh deck that Top8'ed. I mull to 5 both games and get slaughtered.

    Round 4
I play Ricardo playing Ichorid. Game one goes to Ichorid. I Board in +4 Tormod's Crypt +2 Engineered Explosives +1 Pernicious Deed and in both games I draw double Crypt and am able to EE away his needles on Crypt. YAH to being a little lucky.

    Round Five
I split with the Hyppy/Gofy guy to make top 8.

Round one of top 8 I play Sligh again. Game one goes to him. Game two is close and hard fought. Game three we both draw a ton of lands and do very little but he draws a few more then me.

Round two I play Anton with his CounterTopGofy. For some reason I'm having a lot of trouble remembering what happened this round. I just remember it being really intense and Pernicious Deed and Tombstalker being amazing.

Reflecting on the tournament I have to say my SB saved me. I boarded in every card in my SB during the tournament including +2 Engineered Explosives +1 Pernicious Deed every single game.

Thank to all that showed up I hope we can all keep the North West Legacy community growing.
