A: Yes, certain authentic vintage cards have been inserted in some booster packs for Zendikar.
Q: Are the vintage cards real? Or are they reprints?
A: These cards are actual original cards, not reprints.
Q: How many vintage cards are in the set?
As a general policy, we don't disclose collation for a given card set. There are over 90 different vintage cards.
Q: Why did Wizards insert vintage cards in Zendikar boosters?
A: The cards fit the game play and theme of the Zendikar set which is about 'deadly perils and priceless treasures'.
Q: Which vintage cards did you insert?
Consistent with the game play and theme of the set, we included some of the most powerful cards in Magic's history.
Q: Can I play these vintage cards in a tournament?
A: These vintage cards retain their current status in the tournament environment. They are allowed in certain organized play formats that can be found on www.magicthegathering.com.

Vintage cards, like all cards in Magic, are not available in all packs. We do not disclose collation information.

Well, if you're a sucker, then I'm a sucker. I just bought a box and I haven't bought a pack since Revised. It is my first box, so I'm excited.

One per every 20 boxes = one per every 720 packs. 6 * 85 = 510 packs. Especially considering that there is no even distribution and everything is pot luck, that's normal. Even if the prize structure was 6 packs per person, it's still not out of possibility.

I can see it now; some kid buys a few packs of Zendikar from a Target. Opens them up and finds that one of the cards to not look like the others, in fact it looks quite used. Him and his mom decide to take this pack with the used card that has a picture of a gem on it to the return area so they can get poor Johnny a new pack.
