    As it goes for people from Montreal, we would really like to participate to your 2011 championship but if every qualifiers have this kind of prizes, we might not attend to a lot of them. Not because it is unbalanced or bad, just because it is not high enough. Though, it is more likely to be different if a lot of people are planning to go, I guess.

    We'll see.

    PS: I love your tournaments and will try to go as often as I can!

    Re: North American Championship Qualifier Tournament @ Jupiter Games On June 25th

    The qualifiers will cycle just like our previous tournaments have been, the june tournament just happens to follow our May tournament which is our super big, only twice annually size tournament (includes power 9, 40 duals and 40 fetches in the prizes). These tournaments get between 132 and 170 people historically. Generally we then decrease the prize structure for the next one to be a tournament with a few power level prizes for the top top seats and some cool stuff for places below + promise of increased prize support with attendance (which always happens), these get on average 70 players. Then every other tournament is a 40 Duals + 40 Fetches + increased prize support with attendance , and these tournaments average about 80 players.

    Montreal has occasionally come down for all kinds of these tournaments and I do believe the least amount of prize increase I have done so far was a value of about $400. We haven't not increased the prizes in I can't even remember how long. I don't know what your target $$ amount is to make the drive worth it, but you can usually factor these facts in. Especially when you guys come down because it's usually 5 - 10 of you it increases the attendance even more letting me bump up the prizes even more. Last month's tournament I added in 16 mint foil wastelands to the prizes which on ebay would go for an average of $650. Below are some links to some of the set's i've put up, I heard some people had doubts as to their value and I wanted people to be able to see this;

    I'm having a little trouble finding them (I don't know where they are on the site. :P).

    Eli, I have only been to one of your tournaments but I would like to suggest something. It is possible to lower the cost of the side tournaments? If I scrub out and lose $30 I generally do not want to pony up another $15 (besides EDH). At the old Off the Wall tournaments Kevin ran $5 sides or sometimes free if attendance was high enough and got big numbers for the turnout. Plus it might be better for the eternal formats to offer duals/staples than packs. I understand that maybe you don't want a 30-40 person side tournament going along with the main and if that is the case I totally understand but I just feel that with low cost side events the players are more likely to join and spend more time (and money) at your store.

    Thanks

    Well, an 8-man side event at $15 is $120, which could be split into 80/40 credit instead of a booster box. Then people could buy a dual or 2 with the money from the side event, or whatever other staples they need.

    Also possible is to run them and do 60/30/15/15, so that if you win a match you still get some money back. I would play these 60/30/15/15's all day since my chance to lose another $15 is minimized.

    $5 events would be nice too, 25/15 prizes. I think a lot more people would sign up for these.

    My events are $25 not $30 so you save a little money there, but I typically announce that we will hold any kind of a side event people can think of they just need to request it and we will create it, as long as 8 people are willing to sign up (4 if edh) then we will run it as well. you guys can choose the entrance, the prizes, and the format =)

    These prizes may go up based on attendance of the May event, keep watching for more details.

    You are absolutely correct, I had the wrong date, it is the 26th that we want it on. I fixed the thread, but I need a Mod to fix the title.
