I like my Zoo like my hair, BLUE. 2nd with blue Zoo.

I tried blue zoo at the 6 geneva legacy open and finished 2nd of 19.

After days trying to choose beetwin steel stompy and blue zoo, I chose blue zoo but not the caleb durward list, my take of blue zoo ( and not big blue zoo, wich is the latest fashion).

    The list I played is

    2 taiga
    2 volcanic
    2 tropical
    1 savanah
    1 plateau
    1 tundra
    4 wooded foothills
    4 scalding tarn
    2 misty rain forest

    4 wild nacatl
    4 grim lavamancer
    4 tarmogoyf
    3 figure of destiny
    1 scavenging ooze

    4 lightning bolt
    3 chain lighning
    2 fire / ice

    4 brainstorm
    3 ponder

    4 mental misstep
    4 daze
    2 force of will

    side

    2 tormods
    1 relic of progenitus
    2 force of will
    1 spell pierce
    1 stoneforge mystic
    1 batterskull
    1 basilik collar
    2 price of progress
    1 vexing shusher
    1 journey to nowhere
    2 krosan grip

First opponment is an elderly player, like he is in his 50's, wear jeans pants and jacket. Cool guy we smoke pot together later

I loose the flip, and keep a crappy hand of 3 bolt, 1 lavamancer 2 lands ponder. No green monsters, no pression.
His play is island , vial .
    My lavamancer resolve, game.

Game 2 he drops an coralhelm , pump it to serra angel proportion and kill me with it just the turn before batterskull token attacks.

Game 3 a perish for a goyf and a nacactl don't do enough while Figure of destiny is active. burn to the dome .

out daze in stone forge, batterskull, vexing shusher, journey to nowhere.

Second opp' is a teammate Matt, playing reanimator.

Nacatl followed by misstep, daze, force on 3 back to back entomb . drop a goyf.

Game 2 is the same but with figure instead of nacatl. I don't even saw one of my 3 gravehate.

out 3 chain lightning in 2 tormods 1 relic.

Third opp' is nuno still a teammate. playing UW landstill.

Game one I force down a nacatl , protect it , win with a goyf after my nacatl gets explosed.

Game 2 price of progress > a board of explosiv, elspeth, jace.
especially with double force of will protection.

out 3 chain lightning 4 daze 1 lavamancer in 2 price of progress, 2 krosan grip, 1 vexing shusher, 2 force 1 spell pierce.

Fourth opp' is a friend, stone, playing BUG still.

Game 1 I'm too fast and daze a pernicious.

Game 2 He does the 3 mishra + loam draw.

Game 3 he drop a deed against my board of scavenging ooze and nacatl, and passes the turn , I untap and grip, laughting at his 2 untaped land.

out 3 chain lightning 4 daze 1 lavamancer in 2 price of progress, 2 krosan grip, 1 vexing shusher, 2 force 1 spell pierce.

Fith opp' another friend chris , with UW landstill.

    Game 1 humility + elspeth.

Game 2 idem , but having seen my prices during my previous game against landstill, he fetched basics, where I draw the 2 .

out 3 chain lightning 4 daze 1 lavamancer in 2 price of progress, 2 krosan grip, 1 vexing shusher, 2 force 1 spell pierce.

So I finish 2nd out of 19, earning a volcanic.

Props : jé for hosting great legacy tournaments.
    Beer , pot.
my girl for showing with a picnic during the lunch break.
    figure of destiny.
    playing friends.
My deck wich is a Zoo wining against combo
Cantrips for fixing my hands, real good.
    slops : the rain.
    playing friends.

Sorry for the shortness of the report, I'm exausted right now ( yeah exausted, i'm glad I found that, sound way better than pissed drunk).I someone ask for I might try to recollect something from my notes.

If I mixed something that happened today and you feel offuscated, feel free to insult me and shame me in the cyberspace.

Maybe you could like, check the N&D thread for Blue Zoo sometimes. Force and Daze wouldn't be such a suprise.

    My suggestion:
    -3 ponder
    -2 fow
    +2 f/i
    +3 spell snare
I almost agree with this, but I don't. You don't need four Fire//Ice, because Ice is the card youre playing it for, and you'll rarely need two of them to win. One Ice + Attack is enough to get them in Burn + Lavamancer range on average, so playing 4 without FOW is too bulky. Also, 3 Ponder might be 1 too many, but the card finds you action like no other. Spell Snare is also functionally completely different than the cards you're replacing, asking you to remain untapped to do anything. The list is good as is.

This card right now is probably one of the most powerful, underrated spells in Legacy being underutilized at the moment. It can really be a complete blowout.
You're very right. With Nacatl + Goyf in play, Ice = 7 damage + Cantrip for 2 mana. I had an opponent at 1 life during the Jupitergames tournament while he had two Jitte counters, Iced his blocker to attack, and he killed my guys in response, but I ripped a Chain Lightning to kill him. Fire is borerline unplayable, imo, as it only shines once in a while, but Ice is very effective against the field.

Great Job with the Deck! Anything you would change?

Re: I like my Zoo like my hair, BLUE. 2nd with blue Zoo.

    Thank you guys.

@ Smoking pot with old hippies , yeah ok .

@ Force & daze , yeah it's called BLUE zoo ( and it was a deck before durward won with it)

@ 4 fire/ice ... mmm , I ain't convinced, fire suck hairy ball ( well it's no lightning bolt) ice had been good once during the tournament ( but I dodged midrange deck so ..) I used it to tap a jitte wearing blocker and kaboom.

@ Spellsnare : most of the time I m tapped out the 2/3 first turns , where snare should shine .

@ Ponder : I would play 7 brainstorm but they don't let me. Seriously having 7 cantrip is huge, in game one you find what is needed but in game 2 you find your side .

I had a turn vs landstill : him 2 factories humility, about 4 untapped island, full grip.
me 6 land ( long game) no card in hand , draw brainstorm , play , fetch, play the second brainstorm I just drawn, keep ponder, ponder and shufle . He say " what is it, that you're looking for that much ? ", I draw my random card and windmill slam my krosan grip, and now my goyf is back to full power. ( the sad thing is he played another humility the turn after, and went on to win the whole thing )

    Don't underestimate the cantrip cartel.

@ Removing force : I know playing 2 is strange, and I did board in the 2 other a lot . But it felt the right amount ( as my decklist is a bit short on the blue count, and I like to play my cantrip and my other free counter )

@ Changes : not so sure about the ooze, the few time I played it, it ( or she, or he , it's damn hard to see the sex of those oozes) went fast to 4/4, eat some wasteland ( to prevent further crucible / loam shenanigans) it could have been a FOD without problem.

Figure was the perfect replacement for kird ape ( wich is unimpresive alone) I wanted to try phantasmal bear ( to have un inconditionnal 2/2 and up the blue count ) but couldn't grab them in time

I would mostly change my side , as stoneforge was realy disapointing ( well it was supposed to be for the midrange fight ) I will swap him and batterskull for 2 trinkets mage, gaining more acces to gravehate and to basilik collar while keeping the blue count up. I will also trim my sideboard to include 1 pithing needle , because while wasteland isn't a problem at all , wastelands are ( especially the recursive kind of ) and needle always come in a handy ( and goes well with my trinket board).
price will also have to go, because is my opp' is aware of it, it will hurt me more than them (as seen on my third landstill mach) I don't know what to put instead to crush landstill ( but price for 14 damages was great ).

The manabase was perfect, I fetched for everything at least once. I started with plateau as my only white, but liked to have access to the other 2 more and more.

Some friends told me that I should play basics to defend against wasteland, but practice showed than playing more dual helped, at a certain point they can't shut you of a color ( exept with those recursive horrors, but even so while he was wastelocking me with loam, my figure dealt some serious damages).

I agree, Fire/Ice is pretty underrated. There are still tons of decks it can 2 for 1, and still lots of guys with 2 toughness. And Ice is still a pretty good tempo tool.

Awesome build. I tried Caleb's list but found it to be too much Bant and not enough burn.

The Fire side of the card is insane against the Green Sun Zenith decks.

Re: I like my Zoo BLUE. 4th with blue Zoo.

So time for another blue zoo report . DISCLAIMER : I don't have blue dreadlocks anymore so my zoo deck no more maches my hairs .

first, the deck list because that's whats people are looking for /

    blue zoo

    4 delver
    4 nacatl
    3 goblin guide
    4 tarmo

    3 daze
    3 path to exile
    4 brainstorm
    3 ponder

    4 bolt
    4 chain lightning
    2 fireblast
    2 sulfuric vortex

    3 volcanic
    2 taiga
    2 tropical
    1 tundra
    1 savannah
    1 plateau

    4 scalding tarn
    4 wooded foothills
    2 misty rainforest

    side
    4 force
    3 spell pierce
    2 tormod's
    1 ancient grudge
    1 krosan grip
    1 lavamancer
    1 phyrexian revoker
    1 scavenging ooze
    1 tin street hooligan

I'm an repented grow player so I have dificulties to part with my cantrips, hence the ponder.
    Vortex pown batterskull hardcore !
20 lands make a reliable manabase.

I just moved to a new flat and my cards are still packed, so I did what a magic player should do : I salvaged through my stuff at 10pm the night before the tournament, finished the list just in time to get some sleep and, out of ideas and finding my skills as a raider for the lost sideboard card very undervelming, I did throw together a very lacking 15 .

Adding to that people who just ask you for cards at the last time, you waste half an hour trying to find them in plastic bags full of cards, classic.

I woke up early ( not really, being up a 5 each of the week make 8 o'clock a very late rise on sunday. God I hope student me never knows what work turned him into ) , packed my stuff and realized three horribles facts : it's 15°c below 0, the beer stock is empty ( dough ! ! ) , the pot box also. damned my first magical sober tournament ( I do not promotte drugs or stuff , I do just enjoy it).

At the place I recover the last 2 scalding tarns I just brought (yeah this is the first time I own my entire manabase for blue zoo, Work has benefis )

And now for something completly different : the actual report!

    round 1

patriot ( lavamancer/tiago/stoneforge ) / Jé ( my friend who asked me a the very last minute about his decklist and for the the raiding of the lost card, and is the host of the tournament)

    game 1

he remove the first beater not the 2 next ( on turn 2 , board of nacatl , delver, ) he get burn from 10 life( with double bolt fireblast).

siding didn't took note, must have swapt daze for spell pierce, goblin guide for krosan, revoker, tin street, maybe something out for ooze cain't remember.

    game 2

his turn 1 stifle slow me but he telegraph tiago stifle so I wait to daze it drop 2 guys and kill him in 3 turn not caring of waste which is far too late.

MVP game 1 delver + 2 nacatl draw. game 2 ponder + brainstorm = play well against stifle waste.

    round 2

UW stoneblade, controlish build / chris the other one for whom I seeked the ancient cards in my mess of a new flat. Great I know his deck, bad I know how the machup end.

    game 1

I loose the roll . plain go for him, my plan of opening with guide seems bad , I still go for it preserving delver for turn 2 . I attack, he reveal wasteland and path the goblin . he kills jeff goldblum on sight, waste me again , I handle jace but die to elspeth with him at 19 .

I side in grip, grudge, tinstreet, revoker for guide and dazes , maybe spell pierce in place of chain lightning.

    game 2

Yeah I get him at 12 before elspeth kick my ass ( en français , se faire elspeter le cul) .

This is just like last time, his UW controlish deck destoy my blue zoo. still nice to play.

Beside us my friend stone playing goblin is beating reanimator 2/0, nice thing to see.

    round 3

geist maverick / danilo ( who learn to play, starting with legacy , infinite buying power, and netdecking frenzy )

    game 1

I honestly win it on pure speed as we are in pure race and I have burn and a path for his relicary and vortex main shut off batterskull.

    game 2

he misplay very much , but his deck is my doom, equiping geist is power overkill , I like it. I scoop when 10 min before end gets announced

    game 3

I open with fetch into volcanic lavamancer. he goes plain mom. I compliment his balls but he is full tilt after learning that he can't waste my land f
after my ponder to prevent me playing said ponder ( he was vehement, I had to have people back my point. )

turns out that he kept a hand with plain 4 mums maze of ith and a card I never saw. lavamancer burned 3 of them daze ate one , 3 creatures found their way through the maze, burn did burn the last 6 but just for show .

mvp game 1 path, vortex game 3 lavamancer

time to eat a pizza. My opp is still tilted but those misplay where always benefical to him ( like I block a 6/6 knight with nacatl , bury nacatl , mourn and bolt the relicary, he goes : okay so I sword your nacatl it doesn't do damage to the girl so the bolt is useless ! )

pizza time , no beer, nothing interesting.

    round 4

gob/b / stone , playing someone I didn't knew was not fun, let's come back to players I now the whole decklist.

my creatures are bigger, my removal better I 2/0 him fastly

nothing much to say, he remove a creature , I burn a gob , he play a gob , I burn it and drop another beater, he can't handle it game is fast with burn to close it.

we play a third for fun and he piledriver kill me on turn 4 , gob :)

    mvp the deck :)

    round 5

burn / étienne , yeah a playtest partner!

    game 1

we race , in the decisive turn he is at 5 I m at 7 with a 1 drop on the table , I can play goyf or sulfiric vortex ; I choose goyf , he end of turn price of progress , I daze he take 3 because he taps barbarian ring. on his turn he draw the kill and I rage at not playing vortex.

I board in spell pierce, for path, ooze for daze .

    game 2

1 creature 3 damage 2 creature 6 damage he remove one 3 damage plus burn to the dome , the game is mine.

    game 3

I'm faster. He makes the mistake not to kill my creatures on sight, when they have done 3 it's too late to trade a bolt on them .

mvp daze main spell pierce side.

So with 4/1 I'm fourth, the top 4 being punishing maverick, delver tempo, stoneblade ( chris, my 2nd round opp ) and blue zoo.

I'm glad I didn't get paired against the réanimator players, sad to have played most of my playgroup.

I did receive a badland for my troubles, so I might try fitting tribal flames.
