Do you remember your first deck you played? I mean the first you completed the way you wanted it to be not the random junk you had to play with the first starter.
Just for fun Ive thrown it together again, back in the days where we only played multiplayer it was a blast ^^
I remember I always wanted Royal Assasin for it, but it was just to expensive.
It had some much nice combos like Minion of TS and Sorceress Queen or Breeding Pit, Autocrat with Hecatomb... ahh, good old times.

Got tired of Legacy and you like drafts? Try my Paupercube What?
Wow, The first deck I had "tuned" was during the Time Spiral/Lorwyn Standard time period. It was a U/W deck that used Momentary Blink and Whitemane Lion to abuse Evoke creatures like Mulldrifter.
I am sorry I don't have a deck list but I assure you it was nothing overly exciting.
My first real deck was mono blue "Stiflenought" right after the re-errata of the CiP trigger.
Forces in NM for 15, all Duals in NM for 15-25, etc ... good times.
My first one was a BU Discard deck; Hymns, Mind Twist (prior to banning), Hypnotics Spectres, The Rack, etc, and a countermagic suite of Counterspell and probably Power Sink.
The first one I took to a tournament was a BR Land Destruction deck; Stone Rain, Pillage, Icequake, Conquer, with Sengir Vampires and Black Vise (prior to banning/restriction) as the kill conditions
Kamigawa Snake deck. Got extra copies of it and added in a bunch of junk rares I picked up cheap. Was super slow, be VERY fun.
"If you're playing Storm in Legacy, you need to believe that what your deck does is better than what their deck does."
I remember my early days, bought a mono black "mercenaries deck" right before rotation, then I tried my hand at mono green saprolings, till i discovered the power of Psychatog and UG madness..... ahhh the good old days :)
My first deck was a Elf deck (Mostly Onslaught Elves) that ran Skullclamp back when Mirrodin first came out. My buddy made it for me. I remember seeing Skullclamp for the first time and asking "why do you want your dudes to die?". Then when he showed me how it worked, it was bonkers.
That eventually led to X-land Elves Stompy since Skullclamp isn't legal in Legacy. That was my very first Legacy deck.
That takes me back but yes I do remember. It was a simpler time back in the pre classical era of the DCI I like to think of the wild wild west of magic. I was a latch key kid with descent grades an interest in e sports (which we called quake) and to much time on my hands. This "great new set" called fallen empires had just come out and I was excited about hymn of tourach.
The 40 card deck consisted of
hypnotic specterx4
hymn of tourachx4
the rack x4
dark ritual x4
basal thrullx2
abyssal specterx2
willow wispx2
demonic tutor
necropotence
library of leng
terrorx2
mind twist
Swampx12
Mono Black with 4x Laquatus Champion, 4xSengir Vampire, 8 Rituals, 2x Avatar of Woe, 4x Blood Pet and a shitload of removal.
This was the (kitchentable)nuts back in 2002
My buddy made an elf deck with Earthcraft and Squirrel Nest to make inifinite squirrels. So I decided to make something that didn't care how many creatures he had. It was mono white and ran Glittering Lynx and Glittering Lion, Cho-Manno, Revolutionary, Cursed Totem (No one played artifact removal), and Pariah. I also added in Flickering Ward and Inviolability with Replenish in the deck. This locked him out of the game and the win con changed from various angels to Decree of Justice to Luminarch Ascension. Great Times.
Red. Green. Kavu's.
Awwww man, how awesome that time was.
Straight after that all sort of kitchen-table-variants of R/G-Beatz, Psychatog and UG(x)-Madness. I miss those times... .
In response...Hypothek!

Burn.
Specifically, some combination of burn spells and Grim Lavamancer. I remember winning quite a few local tournaments with it.
The first deck I made on my own was a five-colour, seventy-card atrocity supposedly meant for Tempest<->Fifth Dawn Extended, which I built after seeing Joiner Adept from the new set and deciding it was totally broken because you could play any cards! from any colour! Then I proceeded to include a bunch of good domain cards from Invasion block without realising that they would have benefitted more from something that actually turned on basic land types. Plus, of course, such all-stars as Coalition Victory, Cromat, Absorb, and Wall of Ice (yes, really).
The first actually competitive deck I made was a few months later, shortly after Affinity was banned out of Standard. I had seen a guy packing Damping Matrix in his sideboard, and noticed that the card was actually stupidly strong against pretty much the entire format: Vedalken Shackles, Ęther Vial, Oblivion Stone, Sakura-Tribe Elder, Umezawa's Jitte, Crystal Shard, Sensei's Divining Top, Arc-Slogger, Troll Ascetic, Triskelion, Sword of Fire and Ice, Meloku, and a lot more. The downside was of course that I couldn't use any of those strategies myself, so I cobbled together a threat suite consisting mostly of rats (Chittering Rats was really good, Ravenous Rats less so) plus some acceleration (Chrome Mox, Talisman of Indulgence) into big vaguely suicidal threats (Horobi Death's Wail, Yukora the Prisoner, and the all-star Greater Harvester - that guy was game over when he connected), with some discard and removal to fill up the list. It actually worked surprisingly decently, and the best part was how frustrating it was to play against, doubly satisfying against MUC players.
The first list I still have that I'm sure was my own brew was this one (for Invasion<->Dissension Extended):

Roughly ... my have been a wrath in there. Or another Armageddon.
Pre Antiquities. Post first ban list. I thought this thing was the razors edge. Rolled down to Dragons Den and got my sphincter mauled by land destruction.
Circa '99 Jackal Pup Sligh. Did spend quite some cash back then on Cursed Scrolls.
