EDIT: Wrong example - cause Strix+Food Chain mana doesn't work
T1 DRS+Land
T2 2nd Land + Food Cain, sac DRS into Strix (Draw), sac Strix into Scourge - go for the kill with Ballista (=7 cards feat. 1off Scourge)
With Protection it means +Force+Pitch = 9 cards. Starting with 7 cards, you get one T2 and one more with Strix so if you are very very lucky (see 1off Scourge) you can do it "once in a life time" and combo off protected Turn 2. I don't play this deck but i think this should work
@marius/julian thanks for the primer!

TEAM MtG Berlin
Turn 2 works:
T1: Land, DRS
T2: Land, Food Chain; sac DRS for BB; cast DRS with B floating; sac DRS for UB; you now have 3 mana in your pool and can kill with Eternal Scourge+Ballista.
The seven cardinal sins of Legacy:
1. Discuss the unbanning ofLand TaxEarthcraft.
2. Argue that banning Force of Will would make the format healthier.
3. Play Brainstorm without Fetchlands.
4. Stifle Standstill.
5. Think that Gaea's Blessing will make you Solidarity-proof.
6. Pass priority after playing Infernal Tutor.
7. Fail to playtest against Nourishing Lich (coZ iT wIlL gEt U!).
The main differences are IMHO:
Aluren costs 4 (cannot be Decayed / Is slower) Food Chain costs 3 (decayable / faster) - Still you often need 4 mana with Food Chain as you will not always be able to T1 DRS T2 Food Chain T3 Manipulate Fate / have a Griffin in hand
Griffin / Ballista are a much better plan B than Shardless Agent / Cavern Harpy
Aluren is a double-edged sword - has a Wirewood Symbiote and a Reclamation Sage or a Revoker things can go south
Cavern Harpy can be Needled and Revokered / food Chain can be Revokered
Ballista makes you have a lot of MD removal - or me that was the real tipping point
Most important thing is as always against Delver to be very afarid of Wasteland and Daze. Play it safe with the lands!
If ever you can resolve a Carpet of Flowers you should be golden.
Chalice on 1
Thx Julian for pointing that out! Never thought about a 2nd Shaman, this way was just to complex for my brain
The Shaman into Strix plan which was talked about earlier was obvious not possible because Food Chain only makes one color and not mana of any color combination.
The T2 combo kill with FoW backup is only possible if yourŽre OTD because OTP you need 7 cards for the combo route and only 1 drawstep if IŽm thinking correctly.

Precisely! I was on the draw. As I mentioned before I'm still short one foil ballista and I'm a little OCD so I still have one trinket mage main. My particular god hand was:
T1: DRS
T2: Food chain.
Exile DRS, cast DRS one black floating
Exile DRS, Cast trinket mage grab ballista
Exile trinket mage, Cast Griffin
Cast Ballista off Griffin Mana, FoW and Brainstorm left in hand.
Also Julian, thank you for all of the content and discussion you produce! People like you who dedicate themselves to the format are what keep the little guys like me going.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, yes I felt like a tremendous lucksack. This was the type of thing people used to do to me on YuGiOh

Once you go Legacy...
Hi, I am testing out Marius's list atm but my sb is tweaked according to my meta as follows:
3 X Thoughtseize
3 X Surgical Extraction
2 X Engineered Plague
2 X Flusterstorm
2 X Vendillion Clique
2 X Diabolic Edict
1 X Pithing Needle
1) Marius suggested removing some FOW and baleful strix for thoughtseize, clique and needle. What are your opinions on thoughtseize vs miracles? or is FOW a better option
though they do play REB effects.
2) How do you approach and sb against matchups like Jund, Aluren and RUG Delver (the version that eschews a few goyfs for TNN).
Appreciate your feedback, thanks!
I dont like artefacts versus miracle since they definitely board in wear/tear and you dont wanna be two for oned. Rather put preasure on their wear by boarding in sylvan and plague (on wizard or monk).
Against hymn-decks (jund) i make sure to play no proactive cards, only cards that affect the board - no discard and no FOWs. Sylvan is great, so is scavenging oz off the board.
Alluren: keep fow for their combo and board in plague/needle if you have. Then all your grind cards since it's gonna be a long game

Made 2-2 at a weekly legacy event. Playing vs. BUG delver, lost one game due to a poor fetching decision (basic Swamp instead of Bayou ruined that), another one to not mulling a slow hand into a more proactive one. I guess I need to play more IRL: the pace of the game is slower than in online testing and somehow there's more pressure leading to poor decisions. Won vs Burn (the matchup is much easier than I thought) and BG Depths. I've got to say that Trinket Mage never ceases to impress me, finding Chalice of the Void against Burn (got it for combo matchups, Burn just being splash damage) and Meekstone to lock Marit Lage vs Depths. It can also start the combo if you have Food Chain and 3 lands in play with Griffin in exile, which has already mattered a few times.
1) Thoughtseize underperformed against aggro but good against control and very good against combo, that's why I now play 3 copies MD (to make our combo nightmare matchups better at the price of reduced efficacy against aggro, which we don't care too much because we are already favored there) instead of Ponder (4 brainstorm + 1 sylvan library is already decent, and TS also gives us additionnal tempo to assemble our combo). Against Miracles I would however keep them in only on the play, with FOW being better on the draw.
2) Against Jund there is unfortunately not much there to side in : maybe 1 Pithing needle for Liliana, 1 Plague for Dark Confidant against 2 FOW. Against Aluren you can almost bring in your entire SB (! Except Edict though) against all your Decays and Strixes. Against RUG again you don't have much to side in except Plague for TNN... just go and combo off before they kill you.
Hey guys,
I'm in the process of building the deck but I only have 1 available Underground Sea but I have a 2nd Bayou and 3rd Tropical Island available. Do you guys think it will work if I replace the 2nd Underground Sea with another Bayou or Tropical Island?
I'm planing to exchange the sylvan library in the board, that is mostly there for miracles and shardless and, for nissa VF. I think she's a nice 'nother angle of attack, doesn't die to REB and can get countered/killed food chains or Leo's back from the grave.
What do you guys say?
We already have a great matchup against those decks, I don't think you should dedicate any cards for those matchups. Got one needle already which is a good catch-all.
One thing that newer decks do is not playing ANY delve creatures in main. I think one Tombstalker over the third ponder is a no-brainer. It is a good wincon and likes going alpha together with the griffins.
EDIT: another card that I think we should try is Collective Brutality. Counterspells in board is a bad route for FC since we apply zero pressure. But brutality, which is good against all combo, even beats their possible boardcards, like Swarm, Pyroman, Bob, and is great against burn. Also works good with surgical.
Nice article about the Ballista version https://www.channelfireball.com/arti...n-quick-guide/

Looks like a buyout has occured.
SCG, and TCG are currently out of stock and it's priced at $40 on MTGStocks...http://www.mtgstocks.com/cards/8377
Good thing it's not a reserved list card and will likely see a reprint in the not too distant future..... which does imply that someone is just trying to flip the card to make money in the short-term. It is a real shame that anyone who's newly interested in this deck is going to have to shell out $160 for one of the key cards; this isn't good for the deck or Legacy in general :(
The foil price on this could get crazy very quickly too... Masques was a reviled set (unfairly so) and the foils were far less common than they are currently. There's still a couple available for £50 on a british site and a few at 80Euros on MKM but everything else is gone.
Hi everyone! I was hoping I could get a little feedback on my sideboard. I've moved three Thoughtseize into my main and my board is as follows:
3 Surgical Extraction
2 Grafdigger's Cage
2 Engineered Plague
2 Mindbreak Trap
2 Misdirection
Beyond this I've got four spots that I kind of play with from tourney to tourney.
I'm not totally sold on Hydroblast as I find it narrow. I've been using notion thief but it's just cute and I don't like collective brutality.
Options I'm thinking about are golgari charm & toxic deluge, Hymn to tourach, swan song, Krosan grip, and Fatal push.
I've also been thinking a lot lately of trying Leyline of Anticipation. I like the idea of being able to go off in response to an abrupt decay or other kill spells and causing discard shenanigans at end of draw step. If I do this, I'd likely drop misdirection and add in Hymns.
What do you guys, especially more experienced pilots think?

Once you go Legacy...
I think one of your GY hate cards should be reliq of progenitus since it's great at recurring griffins in grindy games. A sylvan library or a planeswalker for grindy matches would be nice. Pithing needle is also nice.

You do realize we can recur griffins with Deathrite Shaman if we need to get them out of the graveyard right? And it's netting us 2 life each time we do it.
I like a sylvan library in the main instead of 1 of the ponders, also the deck really doesn't need a planeswalker since we have *nearly* unkillable 3/3 flyers for the grindy matches. I have a pithing needle in the board but it's mostly just for combo decks that can outrace food chain.
