Hi everyone,

I am Niels, a L3 judge and community manager for Magic here in Belgium. I would like to take a minute of your time to talk about Gentry, a budget version of Standard that we've been playing for the last couple of years.

The rules:
- Standard card pool
- 15 Uncommons
- 4 unique rares and/or Mythics

Limiting the number of expensive cards you can play already cuts deep into the costs of a deck. In addition, the type or rares (big and splashy) that are good in this format tend to be cheaper than tournament staples. (planeswalker being the notable exception)

The format is diverse and healthy, on our last Open we had 18 different archetypes out of 26 players and saw 8 different decks in the top 8. In the three years we've been playing and monitoring the format and its metagame we only had 3 cards on a watchlist but the metagame evolved and there has not been an issue.
