@Tirrit: I had Chalice + Copper Tablet with a worse protection card, but feared it would be too bad if people mimiced with 1cmc threat + painland.

Also 3x Mental Mistep + Memnite (maybe what dte meant by 1CB Memnite). Seemed too easily punished.

Didn't want to play Light of Day for same reason, so I ended up on Wall of Light/Acolyte.

Turns out no mimics this round and all these narrow Mindslaver & Chalice decks were good.

Mental Misstep isn't Legacy legal, which is annoying because I've wanted to submit it multiple times already.

Yeah, the reason I didn't play it is I could see a bunch of different 1 mana threats and answers that people might play. Everything wins/loses against something!

What's the target deck this time? Tirrit's?

Re: 4 Card Blind: The Silkster Seasons

This week is chaos for me. I made the sheet to enter scores, but I haven't entered them and haven't looked at the scores. I'm going to postpone the next round for a week. If you figure out which was the winning deck, you can start brewing and even submit for next round if you want. Next round will be on October 8.

Tirrit made a full sweep, so next target hand is pretty clear :)

  7. #987

Re: 4 Card Blind: The Silkster Seasons

Yeah, the full sweep deck is definitely the target deck.

Mindslaver + Portable Hole is smart. I had Mindslaver + Engineered Explosives, but I had spent the first 4 days figuring out how to play Death Speakers and I found 3 good ways, so I thought EE would give too many draws. Oops.

Next deadline is Tuesday at the usual 11am, though my life is still chaos for the next week or two, so I might be a bit late in posting, fyi.

To be explicit, the ceiling deck is:
    The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale
    Mercadian Bazaar
    Keldon Megaliths
    Eternal Flame

    And additional bans are
    Underground River
    Fume Spitter
    Cruel Sadist
    Cabal Therapy
    Laboratory Maniac
    Thassa's Oracle
    Jace, Wielder of Mysteries
    Strip Mine
    Ghost Quarter
    Wasteland
    Volatile Fault.

Fear of Death Speakers was why I switched from Wall of Light to Obsidian Acolyte.

Death Speakers + Reconnaissance + Leyline + City of Brass
Death Speakers + Mortuary Mire + Tarnished Citadel + Maze of Ith
    Etc.

Such decks also kept me off tech like Chalice and Copper Tablet.

Wall was too good against Death Speakers (and 1/1 goblins), Obsidian might draw or lose depending on the rest of the cards. But then no one was on the 1/1 plan, and Wall is much better against noncreature decks!

Re: 4 Card Blind: The Silkster Seasons

    I had:
Gemstone Mine, Death Speakers, Eternal Warrior, Leyline of Sanctity,
Saltcrusted Steppe, Mortuary Mire, Mirrorpool, Death Speakers,
Slayers' Stronghold, Boros Garrison, Haunted Fengraf, Death Speakers.

I particularly like how you have to use the Mortuary Mire mana to activate Saltcrusted Steppe's big mana ability so that you can tap the steppe for colourless mana to use the Mirrorpool.

This is a race of backbuild-level slowness.
    6-0

Silkster: Dwarven Hold, Shivan Gorge, Maze of Ith, Maze of Ith, comment: HELIOS makes Gorge too fast
I wanted the second Maze to be Helios and I had everything typed up to lock it in and then I realized that the mana from Helios allowed me to flat out race the ceiling deck. Phew.

GoblinSmashmaster: Aether Vial, Broadside Bombardiers, Endurance, Chancellor of the Tangle, comment:
    Too many threats!
    0-6
Edit: At first glace, I thought losing to Chancellor of the Annex was bold and I could not have brought myself to do that. But I'm appreciating how many things you are playing around. Endurance hits Unburial Rites, which was in my shortlist, and the fact that you have two 3s and one with haste means that you can actually fight through Karakas. Nicely done.

    Lands doing work here.
    6-0

Of all the cards submitted, I think the only one in my entire gauntlet is Force of Will.
I completely missed Karakas this week. It was so far off from my radar that I misread Singularity as Sanctity and worried that people were submitting illegal decks. My main contender until a last moment switch to copycat was a delver-style one land and three , cards: Chancellor of the Annex, Undiscovered Paradise, Thoughtseize, Crashing Footfalls. I made a good switch to copycat this week, but I had too much stock in Crashing Footfalls, so I was afraid to play Blast Zone, which would have easily beaten the Patchwork Automaton and the Aether Vial, and would have made for a very complicated mana race against the Adept. Oh, but Blast Zone would have also raced the ceiling deck. Hmm. Looks like I was doomed to a 50-50 week, exactly in the middle.

Don't forget to submit scores on the sheet.

Vomitting a ton of tokens t1 or t0 seemed like the obvious level 0 deck, and ratchet bomb seemed the most generic way to deal with it. Target deck mu: t1 tabernacle (1) cast flame (4) ping patchwork with extra mana (5, prevents 1 damage) ping mole (3) survives at 9 life.

dte: Sacred cat, Ocelot pride, Karakas, Leyline of Singularity, comment: Cats smash!
Patchwork into bomb stabilizes with a ward 2/2. I then tick up to 4, kill Leyline and then tick up drillworks mole to win. WW

You can’t produce 2 mana every turn so I eventually get there with a 3/3 patchwork. WW

Re: 4 Card Blind: The Silkster Seasons

FTW: Leyline of Singularity, Karakas, Cenn's Tactician, Force of Will,

We had to lose to Tabernacle + Megaliths, which meant creatures and no LD. That made Leyline+Karakas look very strong. Didn't want to lose to Empty the Warrens, which I was 100% sure to see, so FoW.

For the Karakas mirror I considered a noncreature threat raced by Megaliths, but the only one I could think of was Millennium Calendar, and I thought: no way is that going to win. So I just played a creature and hoped not too many would be on Leyline+Karakas.

Kudos to tirrit for pulling off Millennium Calendar in a normal round (and also sweeping with Tabernacle in backbuild!). Also to Reeplcheep for anticipating the DTB and playing to beat it.

Reeplcheep: Ratchet Bomb, City of Traitors, Patchwork Automaton, Drillworks Mole
I don't reveal Leyline. If I Force Mole, Bomb kills Cenn and I lose to Patchwork. Instead, I Force Ratchet Bomb, and Cenn's Tactician can eventually double block to hold off your threats. DD 2-2

dte: Sacred cat, Ocelot pride, Karakas, Leyline of Singularity
I don't reveal Leyline & Force Ocelot Pride. If you don't reveal Leyline, Sacred Cat loses to Cenn. If you do, we Karakas each other. DD 2-2

Wrath of Pie: Saprazzan Cove, Temporal Adept, Phantasmal Dreadmaw, Phantasmal Dragon
I can always bounce Temporal Adept before it loses summoning sickness. If you save mana to make multiple plays in one turn, Cenn gets big enough to beat through them, so I can save Karakas for Adept.
    WW 6-0

Tirrit: Leyline of Singularity, Karakas, The Millennium Calendar, Curse of Silence
Smart choice for the mirror! Playing Curse first stops me from using FoW to answer Millennium Calendar. LL 0-6

Silkster: Dwarven Hold, Shivan Gorge, Maze of Ith, Maze of Ith
Copycat works. I can't beat lands. LL 0-6

GoblinSmashmaster: Aether Vial, Broadside Bombardiers, Endurance, Chancellor of the Tangle
Force stops Aether Vial. Knew I needed Force against you, but thought it would be for a ritual to stop Empty. WW 6-0

On the play I land millennium calendar then bounce whatever you play each turn. On the draw you play ocelot. I play curse naming ocelot. You attack for 1, play your other cat, and make 1 token. I bounce ocelot. You attack for 2. I play calendar. You attack for 2. I bounce the token. You attack for 1, then I can just bounce the kitty every turn until calendar kills. 6-0

I was more scared of show and tell into progenitus than most of you were this round. I didn't want to play it because it seemed not great vs chancellor or discard, but it prevented me from playing scion of draco double leyline, which would have cleaned up! "White thoughtseize" was a hedge against show and tell progenitus as well as FoW.

Show and Tell & Unburial Rites were on my radar, but most builds lose to Karakas, and the ones that dodge Karakas lose to Force. Show and Tell Progenitus is also surprisingly bad against 8+ 1/1 tokens.

Disagreement: On the play I curse Aether Vial and win. On the draw I play out calendar and then bounce whatever creature is attacking or just in play after attackers are declared on each of your turns. I don't think you can ever have two creatures attack at once because if you end step bombardiers and main phase endurance after ticking up vial, you will not be able to attack with endurance and also never able to put bombardiers into play again. 6-0
Vial stays at 3 for both Bombardiers & Endurance, so this seems like an easy GSM win when you can't Curse Vial. I can only win by Forcing Vial.

GSM can go end step Endurance, main phase Bombardiers & present 2 attackers vs 1 Karakas. You can bounce one, take damage, then untap & bounce the other. But then GSM can wait & deploy both creatures again. Each time you'll take damage.

EDIT: GSM has an even sillier line with Vial @ 3.
    EOT Vial in Bombardiers
    Untap
If you bounce Bombardiers any time before combat, Vial it in again & attack -> 2 damage (this line eventually loses to Bombardiers on its own)
If you don't use Karakas yet, Bombardiers attacks.
Now if you use Karakas to stop the attack -> response Vial in Endurance -> trigger on stack targeting self -> Boast: sacrifice Endurance (Bombardiers has now attacked!) -> 5 damage -> Endurance reshuffles itself -> Bombardiers returns to hand
Redraw Endurance next turn (both creatures in hand again)
    Repeat
GSM deals either 2 or 5 damage each cycle

You're right! For some reason I thought Bombardiers cost 2. Maybe because it's a 2/2.

My Unburial Rites plan was making Chancellor of the Annex to fight Force of Will. I didn't like that I couldn't play a land that let me reanimate Chancellor turn 1 through an opposing Chancellor.

This matchup looks complicated to me, but my bet is on the cats. I think the Ocelot Pride is able to keep generating tokens forever (maybe unless the Vial itself gets thrown at it, but even then that's not winning for the goblin).

Endurance can also get thrown at Ocelot Pride, either from Vial or by evoking (exile Chancellor). Endurance then shuffles itself & gets drawn again. Ocelot Pride dies. Even if the remaining 1/1s gangblock Bombardiers to kill it (killing 2 1/1s), GSM still has Vial @ 3 & 3/4 Endurance.

Cat tokens are Legendary with Leyline. That leaves 2 choices:
    1) Reveal Leyline. Karakas combo works, but make only 1 cat token. 3 1/1s max.
    2) Don't reveal Leyline. Make more cats, but have no Karakas combo to stop creatures.

This matchup looks like GSM win or maybe DD if the remaining Karakas/cats can hold off Endurance.
