Thats why events should be for power, easy to sell, great to trade, and seen as very valuable.
I wouldn't travel for events where you play for goyfs, forces or a set of duals. In general, if you want more people, higher entrance fees with greater prizes.
Hookers, blow.
Money, duals, goyfs, forces all easily = the former.

I really like how Iamfishman does prize support at a lot of his events. There is nothing better than being able to pick your prize. As long as the value of the prizes are worth the entry fee and travel time I'm up for just about anything.
My only dream is that yours never come true.
"People played violin as the Titanic sank. Tomorrow they will play Green Day songs with plastic keytars as their Hoovervilles burn."
The prizes at our local 1.5 are
1st beta dual land if more than 50 people show up its a blue beta dual
2nd place playset of tarmogoyf
3rd place playest of forces
4th place 60-100 $store credit
SO I can't rly be complaining

Our monthly consists of:
1st: Beta dual
2nd: Playset of revised duals (chosen by store)
3rd: Playset of forces
4th: $60 credit
Also usually $20 credit for rest of top 8 if there is a large showing (45+ish)
This month it got changed to 1 beta, playset of goyfs, and credit for 3rd and 4th.
LOL at Minnesota Legacy btw. How do you ever get 45 people to a Magic event? We didn't even get that at the second day of the latest Mana Leak.

The option for cash was very nice.
Foil Apocalypse Spiritmongers = best prize to draw in the biggest crowd.

Minnesota is the new Texas? Private messages belong in PMs, people.
I really like the "store credit" think taht Ray does. Or the Hadley tournaments. Like, "You get this or so much store credit or this much cash"
I'm a fan of staples, be they duals, fetches, goyfs, etc. Variety between these is always nice, because I can pick up stuff I need or don't have.
Kadi was nice enough to post this thread for me, reading over what you guys have been saying i'm thinking about making this my next prize pool
the Pool consists of;(This is only the bonus wheel picks)
Forces, all fetches, many duals, RESETS, pithing needle, BERSERK and MANA CRYPTS
Then for automatic prizes
1st place- English Mana Drain + 1st Pick from pool
2nd place-English Mana Drain + 2st Pick from pool
3rd/4th place- English Mana Drain + 3rd/4th Pick from pool
5th-8thplace- English Mana Drain
9th-12thplace-Italian Mana Drains
13th-16th- Picks from the pool
-Players can exchange their Drains for credit or cash (Price may vary between now and then, we base our prices from ebay and magictraders).
-We will of course buy back or exchange store credit for any of the pool items as well.
Please let me know what you all think
Why so many Mana Drains? I am personally not interested in Mana Drain as a prize. It isn't legal in Legacy and from what little I know about Vintage it isn't exactly lighting up that format either. I would definitely take store credit instead of the Mana Drains. I would instead like to see Tarmogoyf added to the prize pool of any major Legacy tournament. From what I can tell it looks to be the most expensive staple card in the format.
