    Bayous vs Vendilion Cliques

Hi all, I don't know if this is the better place to post this, but I have not found any other (if there is such a sub-forum for this, please, let me know). It is a thread to ask for advice about a trade:

What do you think about this?

    Pile A:
2x Bayou (Revised) [the two on the right: http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/2...0201200000.jpg ]

    Pile B:
    3x Vendilion Clique (Judge version)

What do you think, and why?

Assuming the cliques are in good condition then it seems like a fine trade. The pair of bayous would be worth more than the cliques if they were in perfect condition, but they're slightly damaged (fading on the backs, some cracks and denting on the edges, and the center one looks like it has a crease forming from being riffle shuffled), so 2 bayou for 3 judge foil clique seems pretty fair.

Just look on eBay completed auctions (sorted by ending date, for context) to get your answer. The Cliques are worth $40-50 each and the Bayous go for about $50-60. If you go by dealer prices then the Bayous are a bit higher.

If you say that the Cliques are worth $40 and the Bayous are worth $60, then it's a fair trade. If you say both are worth $50, then it's a terrible trade for the guy with the V.Cliques. You could also probably claim the Cliques are worth $40 and that the Bayous should go for $70, thus the guy with the Cliques needs to add some value.

In my opinion the price of the two cards is about even (more or less) but it would be substantially easier to move a Bayou than a Judge foil V.Clique.

Thanks to both of you for your good answers, you are right in your arguments. Maybe it comes to a personal choice issue, due to prices being almost even.

    Any other answer?

One thing to also consider is that the guy with the 2 Bayous is trading for less individually valuable cards so he's kind of trading down.

Usually when I make a trade like that, I make sure the guy who's trading up has a little bit higher total value in the pile to balance that aspect out.

That's also true, Esper3k. And, in this case, I'm the guy with the Bayous.

Cliques may be reprinted in Modern Masters, and will almost certainly be reprinted at some point. I would keep my Bayou's unless I already had a playset and these are extras.

If I didn't have excess (i.e. the Bayous had the potential to be played with by me). I'd never ever trade reserved list staples for judge foil non-reserved list cards that might see print in Modern Masters, Planechase, Commander, Duel Decks etc. unless the trade was so absurdly in my favor that I could sell off the proceeds, buy back my reserved list staples, and buy a fine steak and a few beers with the excess.

@burtonbaron62, @nedleeds: Thanks, I see your point there. Just adding a little of background, I am transitioning from Legacy to Modern (I know, what a sinn...), and I am trying to get the most out of my Legacy cards. But not sure enough about this trade.
