Thread: anti-planeswalker GSZ targets

It's not a gsz target, but Murderous Redcap is great in pod lists and can wreck lilly and jace, as well as being a potential three to four for one versus fair decks.

Sigarda seems like the best general option in terms of size/utility/cost against both Jace and Lili. You could also go for distributed threats like Deranged Hermit or Hornet Queen
I think the biggest thing is the deep seeded emotional understanding that the right play is the right play regardless of outcomes. The ability to make a decision 5 straight times, lose 5 times because of it, and still make it the 6th time if it's the right play. - Jon Finkel

I'm curious about something like Giant Solifuge as an anti-PW target against Miracles. Can't be sotp, has haste, and the trample makes it such that they can't use clique-karakas blocking effectively. It's also not bad just as a clock.

Maybe its just easier to sideboard stuff like maelstrom pulse over specialized awkward green creatures, but it would be nice if there was one that fit the bill because 1. it could save several sideboard slots, and 2. it could potentially trick the opponent into letting you resolve a GSZ when they really shouldn't.

Huntmaster of the Fells shoots for 2 when it flips and creates a wolf token. I'd say that's one of the best targets. Not to mention jace isn't going to be bouncing, and liliana sac will just make you sac the wolf.

Then your deck is bad. Nic Fit should not have problems with Planeswalkers. Either you just Punishing Grove them to death, or you attack them with your obscene number of incredibly overcosted Creatures.

Each 'Walker is different, not just in what they do, but in the decks they are in, and such the protection they have. Attacking Jace is fine against Miracles as they MUST use removal or start throwing Cliques at your Creatures, which is mostly fine anyway. Against Stoneblade this is much less feasable, as there's probably a protection Sword, a 4/4 Lifelinker, or some number of Jitte Counters making your life hard.

You could always just crop Rotate a Scapeshift into play and Bolt them.

I assume you meant Crop Rotate into Valakut? That could work in some cases, or they just counter your Rotation and blow you out. Idk, Timbermare actually seems kinda good at k.oing 'Walkers.

Too bad Woodfall Primus is so flipping costly. If not a GSZ target, not bad with NO. Though I guess you may as well 'just win' with Natural Order.

I kind of like the Timbermare/Solifuge ideas. Groundbreaker is randomly funny but it can never stick :(

Played for a while with timbermare in Maverick which doesn't have so much resources and it was ok - favorite combo:
GSZ for Timbermare, your scryb ranger -> untap Knight -> Lethal..

Timbermare sounds pretty sweet! No one would see that coming in a million years.
