So has the Blue/BlackReanimator forum been deleted or something and now this is the only Reanimator forum?
I had a similar discussion with a friend recently, actually. He asked "Why does RB reanimator play red?" I came to the same conclusion as you- there exists a "free protection" build that plays unmask, chancellor, and daze. Although, you can't flashback careful study which is one thing that is actually relevant.
As a budget option. What do people think of running Duress? I'm thinking of running at least 2 in my mainboard since I don't have any unmask and currently missing 1 more of collective brutality and 1 thoughtseize.
I don't think theres any budget replacements TBH. Duress doesn't hit deathrite, and the other option (inquisition) doesn't hit force.
Save up for playsets of unmask, thoughtseize, and collective brutality and mix/match until you find what works for you.
I have currently 3 brutality and 3 thoughtseize. I would like to run 4 of both and I'm probably going to pick up my last copies as well as the unmasks at Eternal weekend, but just to learn and for the time being. I was thing of running one of Duress or some other spell just to fill that slot for the time being.
Two interesting lists lately:
Mono Black Reanimator. With 20 lands including 2 Lake of the Dead, it is fully embracing the "hard cast Grave Titan" plan. It's loaded with discard, essentially swapping Exhume for Hymns. Besides 1 Grisel, it has zero card selection or filtering (no Looting). And the sideboard Bitterblossom plan is... interesting.
BRg Reanimator with WGD. This dilutes Plan A quite a bit, in exchange for... I don't know. But I'll definitely put it together for fun. WGD is still graveyard dependent, so it doesn't diversify the decks game plan.
I bought into Legacy when BRx Reanimator first started becoming popular, and I'm happy to see that there are still new builds based on the same shell being produced. It gives me variants to try before I can scrounge up money to buy Underground Seas.
That should definitely go in the BUx Reanimator thread. Because it's Black/Blue/white. See? The colors of the cards in the deck determine what thread it goes in.
The main reason for thoughtseize and unmask is that they can target yourself. The others cannot.
If you want a budget option cabal therapy is actually the way to go in those slots.
Hello everyone,
So I've been playing some BRw Rea lately, preparing the deck to bring to some middle-range events (20-40 players).
Currently I am running this list:
Main
4 Griselbrand
4 Chancellor of the Annex
1 Inkwell Leviathan
1 Iona, shield of Emeria
4 Exhume
4 Animate Dead
4 Reanimate
4 Entomb
4 Faithless Looting
4 Thoughtseize
4 Collective Brutality
4 Dark Ritual
4 Lotus Petal
2 Chrome Mox
2 Badlands
1 Scrubland
2 Swamp
4 Bloodstained Mire
3 Marsh Flats
Side
#4 creatures
1 Pithing Needle
1 Massacre
4 Wear//Tear
2 Pyroblast
3 Silence
Since the metagame is pretty heavy on Chalices, I tend to replace the 3 Silence with 2 Serenity and 1 Duress
The 4 creatures in side turn around Sire of Insanity; Phyrexian Obliterator; Tidesprout Tyran; Blazing Archon; Ashen Rider
Since the most difficult part in winning any game with rea is the post-side phase of the swiss rounds, I focused on sideboarding strategies, and came up with some sort of list. Please find it either online, on Drive. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...it?usp=sharing
It's work in progress, and some matchups I haven't had the chance to try. One notice though: versus Grixis Delver, on the draw, the matchup seems to be more and more hedging to tempo out the game. It's definitely the Grixis player's strategy. So I tried to side out the 4 chancellors on the draw, and keep the 4 thoughtseizes in. It gave good results, allowing me to take much more time to reanimate and being more consistent.
What do you think?
I guess the Daze build is worth a try.. But the main drawback with Daze is that its less effective when you have Griselbrand online then for example Thoughtseize or CB. After a few turns, Daze becomes less relevant then Thoughtseize and CB. I think, together with the flashback looting, that's a big reason why it isn't played.
It went rather well for me recently with 1 Grave Titan MD and only 3 Grisel, because it's sometimes a better T1, and also it happens to get hardcasted now and then, and only 6 PV with Reanimate for a beast of that quality is also to be considered...I won a fair amount of games thanks to this big zombie
But I have a question on it : I reanimated it, and my opponent told me I had to sacrifice it on his Diabolic edict he played "in response of the trigger" before the tokens are in play. (and then I get two 2/2 zombies after, but well who cares ?) Is that right with the rules ? A judge confirmed, but I am still astonished.
Regarding Grave Titan: That's correct, that's how triggers work. It can also be Stifle'd.
Regarding 3 Griselbrand: There is no better turn 1 (play or draw) than Griselbrand.
If you're wondering how I produce blue mana, I copy my opponent's Island with Thespian's Stage

I am the Legacy metagame:
-2016 Eternal Weekend Europe won by BR Reanimator (I wrote the primer)
-2016 Eternal Weekend North America won by Turbo Dark Depths (I write about and develop the winning version specifically)
-Refiner of Hogaak Depths.
Putting my TL;DR right up front since I really want to share this: follow the link below for a SB guide covering the most played BR sb cards and all 3 splashes:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=10h...kYch4qQ1qL4N0I
Background info: Since a lot of people ask for SB advice in this thread (myself included), I thought it might be worthwhile to compile the best advice I've read here (along with some personal thoughts) into a cohesive guide. I made it a card-by-card guide (for instance, when do you bring in Duress, what to cut for it, etc) rather than by match-up, since that would take forever, could change in the face of new tech, and I didn't want to make a rigid "in match-up A, cut these 3 cards for these other 3" since everyone's configurations are likely to be different and may change frequently. Also note that there is a bonus second page (which I've shared before, but have updated with suggestions from this thread since) covering the vast majority of hate cards this deck is likely to face and the different means the deck has to deal with them.
A few disclaimers: I by no means consider myself an authority on the deck, and in fact I left 2-3 question marks in the guide for things I'm still unsure about. If there's something in there you think is wrong and have a good argument to back it up, I'm quite willing to update the guide to reflect that. Also, I only covered the cards which are currently seeing the most play in BR sideboards (and which I'm currently playing or considering myself), which means many less popular options, such as Blood Moon and Pithing Needle, were left out. If you feel very strongly about these cards, feel free to provide me with the material needed to fill the 4 columns in the guide and I'll gladly add it.
I hope this will come in handy for many of you, and look forward to any constructive criticism :)
