[Deck] G/B/R life from the loam aggro-control

    Here's what I am testing:

    Mana Base
    -----------------
    4 Wooded Foothills
    3 Bloodstained Mire
    2 Taiga
    2 Bayou
    1 Badlands
    3 City of Brass
    3 Gemstone Mine

    Draw Engine
    ----------------
    4 Forgotten Cave
    4 Tranquil Thicket
    3 Life From the Loam
    4 Burning Wish

    Control / Disruption
    ----------------
    3 Duress
    4 Hymn to Tourach

    Kill
    ----------------
    4 Nimble Mongoose
    4 Werebear
    3 Seismic Assault
    2 Zombie Infestation
    4 Smallpox
    3 Devastating Dreams

    Sideboard
    ----------------
    Wish Targets
    ----------------
    1 Perish
    1 Devastating Dreams
    1 Pyroclasm
    1 Hauting Echoes
    1 Hull Breach
    1 Shattering Spree
    1 Nostalgic Dreams
    ---------------
    2 Red Elemental Blast
    2 Pyroblast
    3 Smother
    1 Pyroclasm

This deck is aggro-control. You want to play your disruption, then play your mongoose and werebear which will end the game.
Don't play your creatures if you have a Smallpox in hand at the beginning of the game. Smallpox helps a lot in geting to threshold, since it makes +3 cards in the graveyard.

    Matchups

Threshold: good matchup. All your cards but Devastating Dreams must be countered.

Goblins: good matchup. You have in this matchup Devastating Dreams (followed by threshold creatures) and Seismic Assault which can close the game.

High Tide: not tested but seems a good matchup

Burn: bad matchup, like all life from the loam decks

Hanni Fish: this matchup is not bad. If they resolve a Jotun Grunt and you don't have a Seismic Assault to kill him it is bad news, otherwise you should be fine
(the three smother in the SB are for them)

So far, I have only tested against these decks. I really think this deck can a very good deck.
    thx for comments

This deck looks really strong and when we played on MWS it performed really good. Did you keep working on it and do you have new results?

Why? What match-ups does it help in? You can't just suggest a card without an explanation.

Re: G/B/R life from the loam aggro-control

Am I missing something, or are there only 3 life from the loam between the main and side? If so, why would you run only three in this kind of deck??

Re: G/B/R life from the loam aggro-control

thanks for the comments yes i forgot a life from the loam in the side
i am not testing it too much cause i am testing extended at the moment
(threshold in extended is not bad!!)
if someone has tested it at the moment
i am wondering about a more aggro version
    - 3 city -3 gemstone -4 wish -2 zombie
    - 2 duress
    + 1 badland
    + 1 bayou
    + 3 barren moor
    + 4 mox diamond
    + 4 gamble
+ 1 life from the loam
    but not tested yet

i really have problems against leyline of the void of Iggy pop

Re: G/B/R life from the loam aggro-control

    -4 Wish? never!!

the strentgh if this deck is just that he can beat opponents by creatures while keeping the control thanks to loams, assault, and wishes, play em

-2 zombie? yes, maybe you can cut Zombie Infestation.. when you have lands in hand you probably prefer to burn his creatures...

i would add Gamble MD 3x.
    -2 Zombie Infestation
    -1 Hymn to Tourach
    -1 Smallpox

    +3 Gamble
    +1 Duress

Gamble is perfect to draw what you need and to get Threshold (2 cards in graveyard with R), I cut 2 BB spells to help manafix..

Why not even one single Wasteland??? Wastelock is so strong....
++ Team aYb - all your base (are belong to us) ++

Re: G/B/R life from the loam aggro-control

i was thinking to put wasteland in but the mana base is very tight cause you need rrr bb and green maybe with the new land every land is swamp we could use wasteland

Re: G/B/R life from the loam aggro-control

The manabase is a little shaky. Why not run duals in the place of Gemstone Mine and City of Brass?

Re: [Deck] G/B/R life from the loam aggro-control

yes i am now using badlands and bayou and mox diamond no more city and gemstone mine

Re: [Deck] G/B/R life from the loam aggro-control

After some testing here the new list
    land

    4 wooded foothills
    3 bloodstained mire
    2 bayou
    1 badland
    2 taiga
    3 urborg tomb of yaugzebul
    4 wasteland

    draw engine

    3 life from the loam
    4 burning wish
    2 tranquil thicket
    2 barren moor
    2 forgotten cave

    disruption

    3 duress
    4 smallpox
    4 hymn to tourach
    3 devastating dreams

    win condition

    4 werebear
    4 wild mongrel
    3 terravore
    3 zombie infestation

    side
    wish target
    1 pyroclasme
    1 duress
    1 shattering spree
    1 devastating dream
    1 perish
    1 life from the loam
    1 hull breach

    new card choice

terravore: terravore is just better than seismic assault because he can answer nimble mongoose and you don t have to pay for life from the loam each turn to kill your opponent.

wild mongrel: wild mongrel is just better than nimble mongoose against combo and threshold .

urborg tomb: at the beginning of the game you need black black and this card helps a lot.

wasteland: wasteland was needed and is a must in this deck where you want to destroy your opponent lands.

    A) Your playing 7 fetches and only 5 lands to fetch in a loam deck...

    B) If you really need Tomb of Yawgmoth cut Smallpox and Hymn just play Duress and Cabal Therapy.

    C) Smallpox sucks in aggro decks.

    D) Zombie Infestation basically reads 1G: Make 1.5 2/2 Zombies. Its not real good here since your not playing Roar of the Wurm and your not playing a crazy dredge or reanimator strategy. Its just weak in this deck.

    E) Terravore isnt better than Assault, he's just as good. Play both, the reason to play red with loam is Assault.

Eric Darland (Sexy Rector) pretty much perfected this archetype. I did alot of playtesting with it and found a couple things.. Smallpox sucks in the deck, and so do creatures. Devestating Dreams is way better when playing Wall of Roots and Wall of Blossoms. Your aggro matches get better and your have throw away guys for therapies flashback. Your win conditions should be Assault and Graveshell Scarab. Maybe Terravore.
    Now playing real formats.

Re: [Deck] G/B/R life from the loam aggro-control

I'm very partial to this list...
// Deck file for Magic Workstation (http://www.magicworkstation.com)

    // Lands
    1 [SH] Volrath's Stronghold
    3 [B] Taiga
    2 [ON] Tranquil Thicket
    1 [B] Swamp (1)
    4 [ON] Wooded Foothills
    3 [ON] Bloodstained Mire
    3 [ON] Forgotten Cave
    2 [TE] Wasteland
    1 [OD] Barbarian Ring
    1 [US] Forest (2)
    1 [US] Mountain (2)
    1 [ON] Barren Moor
    1 [B] Bayou
    1 [B] Badlands

    // Creatures
    4 [OD] Terravore
    2 [OD] Nimble Mongoose
    4 [RAV] Dark Confidant
    1 [FD] Eternal Witness

    // Spells
    4 [JU] Burning Wish
    3 [EX] Seismic Assault
3 [RAV] Life from the Loam
    3 [JU] Cabal Therapy
    3 [TO] Devastating Dreams
    4 [SH] Mox Diamond
    4 [US] Duress

    // Sideboard
SB: 1 [RAV] Life from the Loam
    SB: 1 [JU] Cabal Therapy
    SB: 1 [TO] Devastating Dreams
    SB: 1 [PS] Hull Breach
    SB: 1 [OD] Haunting Echoes
    SB: 1 [CHK] Cranial Extraction
SB: 4 [EX] Sphere of Resistance
    SB: 3 [SOK] Pithing Needle
    SB: 1 [TO] Nostalgic Dreams
    SB: 1 [IA] Pyroclasm

Still needs a little work but the old Loam list wasn't doing it for me. Has all the old control elements I liked but finishes the thing before turn 20 which can be nice. I would like to find room for Scarab but I'm still tooling it, also of course Sideboard is very meta dependant.

Re: [Deck] G/B/R life from the loam aggro-control

here is what i am now testing
it has changed cause i found the aggro mathcup especialy against decks like zoo bad

    mana base
    4 wooded foothils
    3 bloodstrained mire
    2 taiga
    2 bayou
    1 badland
    1 forest
    4 wasteland

    4 llanowar elves
    4 fyndhorm elves

    draw engine/card advantage

    3 life from the loam
    4 burning wish
    3 tranquill thicket
    3 forgotten cave

    disuption

    4 cabal therapy

    removals

7 cards (between flametongue kavu pernicious deed engineered explosive)
    3 devastating dreams

    kill

    4 terravore
    4 vinelasher kudzu

    sideboard

    1 lftl
    1 hull breach
    1 meltdown
    1 perish
    1 devastating dreams
    3 pyroclasm
    1 nostalgic dreams
    4 duress
    1 hymn to tourach
    1 smallpox

i found the kudzu with the llanowar elves really good cause it can attack like a 5/5 turn three and it is not dependant of the graveyard and much more aggresive than werebear and nimble mongoose or wild mongrel.
llanowar elves are just better than mox diamond because of cabal therapy
and because mox diamond is bad when you dont draw life from the loam or when burning wish is countered
i found that seimic assaut was a win more card it means that when you play it you have already won .Against a zoo deck it is too slow you usually play it turn three and dont have the lands to kill alll your opponents creatures if he starts. So i am hesitating between pernicious deed flametongue kavu and engineered explosive. If someone can help me??

Re: [Deck] G/B/R life from the loam aggro-control

I think cutting Seismic Assault is a very bad idea. It is such a powerful card with Life from the Loam, not just as a kill condition but also as a control card. A resolved Assault is terrible for control and with Life can not only clear Goblins' board but keep it clear. The RRR mana cost is difficult, but I think the power level of the card justifies it.
