Sensei's Divining Top and the stack

Say I have a sensei's divining top out, and I want the card on the top of my deck, but I don't want to draw top next turn. Can I do the following:

    1. Activate top to look at the top 3 cards and put that ability on the stack?
    2. Use top's tap and draw a card ability and put that on the stack.
    3. Begin resolving the stack by first drawing a card and putting the top on top.
    4. Finish resolving the stack by reordering my top 3 cards?

I have never seen this done so I have a feeling something is illegal here.

Perfect doable, I do it often when low on life, needing a card and a Confidant out wanting to reveal a land.
It's also useful with a Counterbalance out even if you want to draw top next just to keep your opponent guessing what's on top.

What you describe is exactly right.

You may not have seen it done because it's something of an advanced maneuver and not something that you want to do very often.
“It's possible. But it involves... {checks archives} Nature's Revolt, Opalescence, two Unstable Shapeshifters (one of which started as a Doppelganger), a Tide, an animated land, a creature with Fading, a Silver Wyvern, some way to get a creature into play in response to stuff, some way to get a land into play in response to stuff (a different land from the animated land), and one heck of a Rube Goldberg timing diagram.

I do it very often. The main point here is that very few people know how to use a top.

Yes and the other thing about top to note is, whene someone tap top to draw a card its the only change to destroy it with a disenchant. You also could sacrifice to ravager or welder it out and you still draw a card.

He still draws the card if you DE the Top, so what's the point? (I hope I didn't get confused from your grammatical and spelling errors).

huh ? um, his point is thats when its possible to destroy the top for good, not to disenchant it to prevent card drawing. otherwise the opponent would just draw the top back in a turn or two. seemed pretty clear to me.

It's also possible to use Mind over Matter (or another untap effect) + SDT to put multiple activations of the card draw on the stack.

Isn't there an issue in the second step?
    - Use Top's tap and draw a card ability and put that on the stack: You can't use Top's draw a card ability after you've activated its first ability. Once you activate Top's first ability, you must resolve it completely before you can activate other abilities of the Top.

You can't play abilities while other abilities are resolving, but just activating an ability doesn't make it start resolving until all players pass priority.

Do note that if you try this trick at Competitive REL or above (lol, there might be another Legacy GP) you must announce that you're retaining priority while activating the first ability.
