Lovely, although those Birds are a bit unfortunate, .

I am very sad that somehow I never got any Deranged Hermits when they were cheap. Total oversight on my part, I think I just figured I already had some.

The deck is pretty cool, I played it a few times against a friend of mine a while back. When it works, it really works. Sometimes it felt like I just couldn't really get anything going though.

Beta birds are the dream :) In all my card purging I never really thought of moving the survivals, so when i was thinking what to build I had to go Welders

Way back in the day when I was bored and reading all the random old threads this one always stuck with me

    Re: Welder Survival

I wasn't smart enough to get Beta Birds when they were reasonable, but I did get a set of FBB Birds, so close (although not close really).

In my extremely limited plays, it seems absurd sometimes how much an Anger in the 'yard makes this deck go from somewhat slow to absolutely supercharged.

In all my goldfishing i ended up realizing how important the Yav Granger is for finding the pesky mountain for that reason

Now that it’s June, how has the deck evolved over the past two months? Any key changes or matchups that surprised you?

made a couple small changes, i ditched the granger for now and added a crop rotation, i feel like i want some more looks at cradle and crop for mountain is basically the same thing

phyrexian colossus for some quicker closeouts, and also a treetop village for another crop avenue and an extra green source

I upped the Shield Sphere count to help against stuff like lackey and aggro, also just a really solid card for any type of constricted mana survival/weld lines

    Re: Welder Survival

1-2 last night at Dice City's Premodern Rumble

8 players in some high stakes Premodern - Burn, Goblins, Bw Control, Bant Terra Oath, Rg Terra Oath, Full English Breakfast and one other im forgetting right now

    and me on Weld-Sur

    Rd1 vs Rg TerraOath

G1: I lose the roll and get quickly met by a T1 Oath off a Mox Diamond. My hand is pretty much dead to that and some land destruction seals it

G2: The deck really shines off turn 1 dork into turn 2 tangle wire. I manage to get a soft lock going where i can stabilize with two wires tapping down 5 lands and 3 terravores. From there some quirion shenanigans sets up the end of turn for no wires and only giant robots for the counter swing to take it

G3: I'm able to rebuild through the first pyroclasm and end up getting punished when i choose to naturalize a sylvan library. A second is quickly played and then a Phyrexian Furnace does a number on any Welder tricks and I have to play a slow game. Treetops and Mishra's attack me down over a couple more turns

    R2: Full English Breakfast

G1: I lose the roll and keep a chill hand that doesn't do anything against a Hermit Druid and turn 3 combo. Never seen that before so pretty cool to get walked through that nonsense lol

G2: After some Naturalizing survivals on both sides the game devolves down into a weird subgame of his Psychatog vs my Quirion Ranger and Goblin Sharpshooter. I swing in with the Elf and end up forcing a squee and trike to get discarded and exiled to save the tog. I follow up with haste welder into my own Trike to kill down the tog and win

G3: Another slog game, I have a tormod's crypt chillin that i wasn't sure if i was supposed to bring in but at the very least is welder food. Ghitu Slinger takes out my Sharpshooter but Trike is op and carries me again

    R3: Bw Control

G1: Lose the roll and mull to 6, I get duressed turn 1 for one of my survivals, and then duressed again turn 2 for the other. I do some chill beats and find a survival again like turn 8. Insanely long game I get him down to 2 through vindicates, gerrards, some dust bowling, wrath but cant close the last. Decks like survival i end up realizing that you probably punt infinite times along the way each game, which makes it pretty fun adding the welder puzzles

G2: Not much of a game here either, some quick aggro and creature control but I lose ground to an exalted angel, definitely realizing that and call of the herd have been giving me problems

Gonna maybe run a Skyshooter in the board. Don't know how needed Deranged Hermit is, Thopter Squadron is a similar spot and adds in some needed Welder food sources.

For now a bottle gnomes, but also kinda like Thunderscape Battlemage who knows

Thanks for the report. I've been running Survival Elves and kinda bored. Going the Welder route may be what I need.

    Re: Welder Survival

Knocked out two 3-2 leagues on magic online, pretty fun having a ton of people jamming premodern on there

Wins: Goblins, Sligh, Ub Parallax, Uw Control, Grow, Bw control

Losses: Oath, Doomsday, White Stax, Elves

messing around with some Call of the Herds in the board for the grind, also going to add 2 Firebolt
