    Re: [Deck] W/x Parfait (Tax/Rack Control)

    Bauble died for forge's sins! It's a real shame since it worked so well with the slow saga plan.

    At least I didnt have to cut tax.

    Thanks for posting your list, and also for raising this issue - that's an unfortunate consequence of the board software's default "daysprune" setting. I've set that value to "display threads from the beginning" for all existing members to fix the issue for logged-in users at least.

    Why Phyrexian Furnace? Seems like you have to walk past a lot of 1 mana graveyard removal with more utility before you get to that one.

    Phyrexian Furnace can be decent maindeckable Saga target in slow grindy control, like Parfait or Standstill.

    It has a few useful modes for control:
    - proactive chipping away at opponent's graveyard in long games (while +1 to Construct)
    - cantrips
    - exiles a target at instant speed vs combo

    The first two modes are useful when you draw it in fair matchups, especially if they have GY dependence (Murktide, Uro, Goyfs). As a proactive control element, it will often draw removal spell (otherwise their topdeck threats are worse). Then you cantrip in response: 2-for-1! Hate without those modes doesn't draw the 2-for-1.

    Compare to other common choices:

    Soul-Guide Lantern - can't exile & cantrip together. Reactive 1-time use. It's fine in tempo but can be a clunky draw in long fair games, just cycling or nuking their yard once. Furnace can do more in those games.

    Tormod's Crypt - no cantrip or proactive modes

    Nihil Spellbomb - needs black mana

    Grafdigger's Cage - fills a different role, not maindeckable, possible SB card

    Relic of Progenitus - This one is usually better. It has all the relevant modes. But it's symmetrical. If you need your own GY, Furnace can be a decent replacement for Relic. Hall of Heliod's Generosity combos may be why he doesn't play Relic.

    Furnace is weak combo hate but maindeckable for flexibility. I played Soul-Guide Lantern for a long time, but it is underwhelming often. Postboard you can bring in better hate (4 Leylines). The maindeck slot is about what's least dead in fair games.

    Relic is what I was expecting as the soft pressure on the graveyard with the nuclear option.
    Symmetry of Relic is a factor I suppose, but then the MD Rest in Peace is a choice the other way.

    Not saying it's wrong, just me being curious

    Re: [Deck] W/x Parfait (Tax/Rack Control)

    Pretty much what was said. I already have rip + 2 etutors main so I would rather chip away at fair deck's graveyard (every single deck uses it now). I did consider ghost vacuum but it doesnt allow a redraw in case things go wrong. Besides, I put lotv in the board so it would feel like overreacting.

    Rip is a last resort strategy. Unless I know I can win (or opponent cannot win) I wont ever cast it. It can be used as converter fuel early and brought back with sevines/heliod later. Touch is also often used as early flicker since it also makes a 2/2 with converter. That's a removal on demand you don't want to get rid of.

    Relic being symetrical is indeed the main issue and the difference in practice is very small. Any good player using a gy combo strategy knows not to dump everything in the gy at once when facing such a card.

    This spicy "Parfait" list showed up a while back from a Brazil top 8:
    https://mtgtop8.com/event?e=90222&d=884828&f=LE

    Thraben U just did a league with it:

    Jeskai "Parfait" Decklist

    //Enchantments: 5
    3 Land Tax
    2 High Noon

    //Artifacts: 3
    2 Mox Diamond
    1 Scroll Rack

    //Creatures: 16
    2 Voice of Victory
    3 Truefire Paladin
    2 True-Name Nemesis
    2 Screaming Nemesis
    2 Geist of Saint Traft
    1 Subtlety
    1 Solitude
    3 Wrecking Ogre

    //Spells: 15
    3 Force of Will
    2 Spell Pierce
    2 Swords to Plowshares
    2 Lightning Bolt
    1 Erode
    1 Vapor Snag
    2 Winds of Abandon
    1 Cryptic Command
    1 Rolling Earthquake

    //Lands: 21
    3 Scalding Tarn
    1 Flooded Strand
    1 Prismatic Vista
    1 Tundra
    1 Volcanic Island
    1 Plateau
    3 Island
    3 Plains
    2 Mountain
    1 Sunbacked Canyon
    1 Oboro, Palace in the Clouds
    1 Karakas
    2 Wasteland

    //SB: 15
    3 Rest in Peace
    2 Helm of Obedience
    1 Force of Will
    1 Swords to Plowshares
    1 Spell Pierce
    1 Winds of Abandon
    1 High Noon
    1 Lavinia, Azorius Renegade
    1 Kataki, War's Wage
    1 Hurkyl's Recall
    1 Winter Moon
    1 Gaea's Blessing

    The Land Tax + Scroll Rack engine is back. But the deck doesn't run too many artifacts and enchantments, so you aren't that blown out by Force of Vigor or Wrath of the Skies. This may also be good meta-timing with Prismatic Ending seeing less play to punish turn 1 Land Tax (more Erodes). There are a few lands that can remove themselves from play to mess with land count and trigger land tax.

    Although the deck is full of "fun-ofs", the spells are basically:
    4 free counters + 3 other counters (+2 SB)
    7 spot removal (+1 SB)
    3 sweepers (+1 SB)

    The board has a RiP + Helm plan B.

    The creature suite is goofy. You can work towards an endgame where you have a hard-to-remove threat and then Bloodrush Wrecking Ogre:
    Ogre + TNN = 12 damage unblockable, uncounterable, unkillable
    Ogre + Voice = 8-10 damage unkillable, uncounterable
    Ogre + Geist = 10-16 damage (depends on what gets blocked or removed)

    Screaming Nemesis stops lifegain, which helps make that finish possible. Rolling Earthquake + Nemesis deals 2X damage to opponent. Between that and High Noon, it's possible to burn opponent out once flooded.

    Then there's High Noon and Voice of Victory to slow down opponent's spells, making more things uncounterable and stopping opponent from disrupting your shenanigans on your turn.

    Truefire Paladin is the one creature that stands out to me. This seems so bad and doesn't support any of the other lines. It's just a bear, at best a 2-mana mana sink through High Noon when you're flooded and can't cast many spells. But surely there are better bears and better mana sinks. Meddling Mage would disrupt opponent and support both pitch colors. Hexing Squelcher protects your spells and threats. Tamiyo, Inquisitive Student would make clues, which you can crack for gas when flooded. Currency Converter is a mana sink that could filter extra lands into gas and generate card advantage. A planeswalker like Teferi, Time Raveler can activate under High Noon, adds another Voice of Victory effect, supports the pitch costs, and generates card advantage.

    Re: [Deck] W/x Parfait (Tax/Rack Control)

    Do we have any direct video evidence that it was Truefire Paladin?
    I'd consider it to be a transposition typo or something, we've known that to happen.
    Comical if people netdeck 1:1 and keep transcribing the mistake.

    Regardless, I agree, for 3 slots there's many more cards I'd look to use for generic beats/sinks

    Tbh I think you're right. The list is from a paper event posted on mtgtop8. That site has many errors.

    It would be easy to miss an error typing up a rogue list with unusual cards. And the deck has similar creature names: True Name Nemesis, Screaming Nemesis, Truefire Paladin...

    If it was a blue card instead, that would explain why the blue count for FoW is so low.
    +1 True-Name Nemesis
    +2 Meddling Mage
    ?

    Found someone on Discord who's also in the Rio de Janeiro circle.
    They confirmed Truefire Paladin was not a typo.
    They also confirmed he's a but of a mad lad when it comes to deck building, which Parfait in 2026 I kinda figured lol.

    So then open forum to determine if there's a better use for those 3 spots.

    I'm kinda surprised there's not one copy of Forth Eorlingas! as a finished once you're flooded any they're at middling life total.

    Re: [Deck] W/x Parfait (Tax/Rack Control)

    Interesting. Maybe this could be cleaned up.

    The weakest cards seem to be: Truefire Paladin, Vapor Snag, Subtlety, Scalding Tarn (other fetches are better if you need turn 1 Plains more than turn 1 Mountain)

    Spell Pierce seems out of place. It makes sense in theory (either force opponent to play more lands into Land Tax, or cheap counter while they refuse to play lands). But the deck isn't good at holding open U early. You want to tap out main phase for Land Tax, High Noon, RiP, or 2-3 cmc creatures. The blue cards seemed forced to support Force. Judge's Familiar might be better. You can play it proactively, take down a few life points, and still get the tax pressure (and it pitches to both FoW and Solitude). [cards]Esper Sentinel[cards] could be good too, but it's hard to find space with the blue count needs.

    I tried playing around with a few decklists but nothing was running well. The deck's trying to do a lot at once and space is tight.

    -----------------------------

    On a different note, I like the idea of FoW in Parfait. It seems necessary to compete in the faster and combo-heavy meta of recent years. The older lists were good in grindy fair matches but soft to combo. Meanwhile the card engine can help pay for cards like FoW, FoN, Solitude and March that keep you alive in early turns. Blue allows Back to Basics endgame. FoW is also an excuse to use blue cards to upgrade the card engine. Staff of the Storyteller, Scepter+Chant, Saga+Heliod, and Currency Converter+Timeless Dragon seem a bit slow for 2026 Legacy. 4/4 Dragon unfortunately lines up badly against 4/6 Quantum Riddler. Wrath of the Skies and grave hate also made the Saga + Dragon plan weaker.

    I tried just jamming a bunch of UW card advantage engines and mana sinks:
    Land Tax + Scroll Rack
    Karn + One Ring
    Stock Up
    Quantum Riddler (without Phelia, just in fair mode as a control finisher)
    Tamiyo

    This is where I landed.

    //Enchantments: 4
    3 Land Tax
    1 Back to Basics

    //Artifacts: 1
    1 Scroll Rack

    //Planeswalkers: 3
    3 Karn, the Great Creator

    //Spells: 22
    4 Force of Will
    4 Brainstorm
    2 Erode
    2 March of Otherworldly Light
    2 Force of Negation
    4 Stock Up
    1 Supreme Verdict
    1 Lórien Revealed
    2 Wrath of the Skies

    //Creatures: 10
    3 Tamiyo, Inquisitive Student
    4 Quantum Riddler
    3 Solitude

    //Lands: 20
    2 City of Traitors
    4 Flooded Strand
    2 Prismatic Vista
    3 Plains
    3 Island
    1 Tundra
    1 Meticulous Archive
    1 Karakas
    1 Otawara, Soaring City
    2 Wasteland

    //Sideboard: 13
    3 Rest in Peace
    1 Enlightened Tutor
    1 Helm of Obedience
    1 Mycosynth Lattice
    1 The One Ring
    1 Damping Sphere
    1 Perilous Snare
    1 Ghost Vacuum
    1 Court of Cunning
    1 Moat
    3 others

    What makes this different from regular UW control? It still has Land Tax + Scroll Rack, Rip + Helm, and permanent-based answers found with ETutor. Instead of Ponder and Flow State or Beanstalk, there's Stock Up and Karn+One Ring. There's no Phelia or Stifle/Consign to cheat out Riddler: this is control, not tempo.

    Land Tax acts as a pseudo-Ponder finding the next lands. Erode and City keep you behind on lands. I found City useful tech to accelerate into things like Karn, Stock Up and Scroll Rack while letting you fall behind on land count. Redundant Land Tax can be pitched or put back in the deck. Brainstorm + Land Tax is a strong interaction. Scroll Rack + Stock Up also interacts well (you dig past the cards you put back).

    The SB has a Rip+Helm plan and a mix of silver bullets for Karn & ETutor.

    Free spells: 9
    1-mana effects: 15
    2-mana effects: 7
    3-mana spells: 5
    4-mana spells: 4
    (40 nonlands)

    Cards that also do more on 5+ lands: 16

    You get a lot of action early while tapping out, then a late game of hardcasting Forces, Solitudes, March, Lorien, Riddler, and Karn into Lattice.
