Hi all
My good friend, who I swear is actually decent at magic, tries to make this deck work:
https://moxfield.com/decks/brU3keIzj0K04myHprjAAQ
4 Bloodstained Mire
1 Castle Locthwain
3 Polluted Delta
8 Swamp
1 Archon of Cruelty
4 Bone Shards
4 Circling Vultures
3 Dread Return
4 Faerie Macabre
1 Filth
4 Golgari Thug
2 Mishra's Bauble
4 Moonshadow
4 Nethergoyf
1 One with Nothing
4 Street Wraith
4 Thoughtseize
3 Unmarked Grave
1 Vengeful Pharaoh
SIDEBOARD:
3 Bojuka Bog
3 Cabal Therapy
3 Duress
3 Feed the Swarm
3 Phyrexian Tribute
It's terrible. But is there any hope in Circling Vultures?
I can see what your friend wants to do. However, it seems like playing UB with a Xerox shell would be infinitely better.
You can play the same threats, have more card selection and protection, and also have a 3/2 aggro plan on turn 2 with delver :p
yeah, especially compared to the new Hogaak builds. feels like if you play a deck that is weak to grave hate, you might as well go all in and play Hogaak, Dredge, etc.
It's a fun idea, very Halloween-y, but basically a worse version of UB Hogaak or Dredge. You're weak to the same hate but playing weaker threats.
If he is trying to innovate a budget monoblack deck, he could still make it more like the tempo decks to be competitive. Rough idea:
//Creatures: 26
4 Nethergoyf
4 Moonshadow
4 Dark Matter Manipulator
4 Orcish Bowmasters
2 Super Shredder
4 Barrowgoyf
4 Street Wraith
//Spells: 16
4 Mishra's Bauble
4 Thoughtseize
4 Cabal Therapy
4 Fatal Push
//Lands: 18
4 Wasteland
4 Bloodstained Mire
4 Polluted Delta
5 Swamp
1 Undercity Sewers
