[Article] Unlocking Legacy - From Here to Eternity

    Link

This story begins with an announcement that was posted on The Source by Chris Lennon (Volt) advertising a Legacy tournament in Vancouver, WA. Mike Edinger (TeenieBopper), Adam Barnello (Nightmare) and other players from Syracuse, New York start discussing the possibility about driving out to the tournament. This suggestion seemed to be joke at first. Driving across the country to play in Magic tournament where even if you win you can’t make more than equivalent of 200 dollars is pure madness. Or is it?

I forgot to mention in the article that Parcher (Damon Whitby) is the one who gave me the new list of Ichorid. I was not involved in developing the list in anyway. I simply played the list that he suggested.

I did send in pictures that were meant to be in the article, but apparently they were not of the proper size. I wasn't exactly sure how to resize them to make them fit. The ones I did send in were either too small to be useful or just to wide to fit.

    Two words: Name drop.

    I approve.

It was a nice article, for being (basically) a tourney report, though.

Thumbs up for name dropping me.

People don't write enough tournament reports. If anything, this format could use more. They're better than most of the repetative, self-important drivel that usually passes for Legacy articles.

I'm a huge fan of tournament reports (as has been evidenced here), and I think this one was great. I'd say that it lacks a little of the bombast and over the top attitude that makes some tournament reports fun to read (you know, mine), but still enjoyable overall. :)

Although, I highly recommend more David Gearhart. It's proven that in the coveted David Gearhart demographic, more David Gearhart always draws the attention. You know, just for future articles. Have to know your demographics, right? :)
For the foreseeable future, expect to see less of me. I've lost my internet connection, and so I'll only be able to get on by siphoning free Wi-Fi from the surrounding areas. Which isn't always consistent.

Plus, the guy that I used to leech off of has now instituted password protection. This means that I effectively do not have internet at home. :(

This is pretty true, actually. Which is sort of sad.

Liked. Especially the part with my name as a link. You know I'm a sucker for roadtrip articles, though.

It was a good report. But it would've been better if he had video to back it all up and done correctly.

Thumbs down for not name dropping Trevor "Getsickanddie" Brown and Zach "Was the second to say, 'let's do this'" Tartell.

After seeing I wasn't included I just didn't read the article. Also.... maybe props to the picture? I can't recall if it's better than (or actually the same picture that) you used to have.

Congrats on the Nourishing Lich finish, though.

Aside: Mike "Was Name Dropped" Edinger and I went to Mike "Stole every good card I own" Herbig's place to round up his vintage cards to get his mom to mail out to Benget (sp?), and while thumbing through his binders to pack up the Legacy and Vintage playables I stumbled upon a Nefarious Lich. Totally stole that shit.

Are you New Yorkers/Virginia so rich to afford that?
Lol, I imagine it's was an awesome trip but you are lucky to have so much free time/money to do that!

This is a little known fact, but the Hatfields only play with the cards in a Thresh deck at a tournament once. Many people will use a set of sleeves for a tournament, and replace them for the next one, but the Hatfields also replace every card in the Thresh deck with a new copy. They throw out the used cards along with the used sleeves. Alix swears by this method for optimal tournament performance.

I thought the article was good for a tourney report, but the name-drops seemed unnnecessary.

What's the logic behind buying a new set of force of will every tournament? LOL
I understand the sleeves changes (the newest, the better you shuffle)
btw hatfield brothers are definitely rich if they are capable of doing that lol
So you can also come in europe playing the biggest tournament Eurovino3 or in France (Annecy bazaar 2, very big legacy tournament)

    T was joking, slyfer :)

But indeed, if some American Eternal player was planning a trip to Europe this year, Eurovino and Annecy are must-stops.

I wouldn't exactly say we're rich, but we have, you know, jobs. Also, the New Yorkers and Virginians have much different spending habits. They spend on road trips across the country. We spend on all things shiny and BB. Ever notice the depressing abundance of WB on a Virginian's dual lands?

Also, I enjoyed this. It was the first article I read all the way through in like a year.

Re: [Article] Unlocking Legacy - From Here to Eternity

SCG actually has an anti-tournament report bias in it's editing, so it's not really the fault of the writing pool for Legacy that there are fewer reports. I agree that they're generally more interesting than, "This is Legacy. We play Landstill/Threshold/Goblins/Somebadcombodeck. Some of the cards in Legacy are Duals/Brainstorm/AetherVial/XiahouDunTheOneEyed" articles that we see perpetually.

This sounded epic. I lament my shamful absence from this roadtrournament.

Good report and congrats on the finish.

Just a note, the rounds you IDed are misnumbered.

I went back to look at "Far Beyond Driven" as reference for writing this article. I wanted to include a full tournament report, but like that article I thought that the trip all the way to Vancouver, WA was worth writing about. Hopefully there was plenty of Legacy for those looking for it.

@White Ghost: You are obviously correct, it should be rounds 5 and 6.

Thank you all for the compliments.
