    [Brainstorming]comeback of iron phoenix

Back in the days of old pre-first rotation extended there was a somewhat obscure deck known as Iron Phoenix or Peace of Crap. The deck was basically a metagame foil deck and was packed with individually mediocre to decent cards, but they made very strong synergies. I personally played the deck quite a bit until I got all of the stuff for five colour oath. Anyway, here is a sample list of what it looked like back then, which is based off of memory so a card or two might be missing:

    3xshard phoenix

    4xpeace of mind
    4xcursed scroll
    4xtithe
    4xswords to plowshares
    4xincinerate
    3xfirestorm
    3xensnaring bridge
    4xenlightened tutor
    4xseal of cleansing

    4xplateau
    10xplains
    9xmountains

    sideboard:

    4xprice of progress
    4xpyroblast
    1xCoP:R
    2xsanctimony
    3xphyrexian furnace

To the folks that don't quite get the deck, it was a compete against decks like frozen fish(merfolk with winter orb), necro-donate, full english breakfast, pooh burn, three-deuce, sui black, counter oath, secret force and forbidian.
What the deck did was have a few cards that were chosen for a specific match up in mind, but also worked with cards for entirely different match ups at the same time. For example, peace of mind was largely for pooh burn(sligh with a green splash for sideboard stuff basically) and donate, but it also would allow you to drop your hand down really fast and force forbidian's morphling to work very hard while zapping the player with a scroll. Another example was shard phoenix being extremely good against oath because you would be able to force them to play like an old school 5c Donais control deck instead of oath by saccing it before they could activate and oath and using it as a beater once you removed the oath or vice versa and at the same time, it was awesome against sui black, which ran a creature suite that was composed of negator, dauthi horror, sarcomancy and carnophage(as an aside to people that say carnophage was never good, you're fucking: wrong it was awesome for a while).

When I look at the outdated list above, on paper, I see a deck that could actually win some games against goblins(though they aren't what they used to be) and possibly thresh.

I want to see if reviving the deck is actually possible. Not necessarily as tier one deck to beat, but as at least a contender. A big problem card I see is crucible, but also counterbalance/top.

If anyone wants to join in and see if we can get this deck updated and tuned to be at least a competitor in current legacy, please feel free to do so.

If you want to improve this as a hate-deck, you may check TMWA (the mountains win again) thread.
Anyway, with such a weird mana base Magus of the Moon (or Blood Moon with e.tutor esp.) seems excelent (why are you scary of Crucible?)
Oblivion ring is good for removing counter-balance and other sweeping.
Instead of at least 1 seal I'd suggest 1 Aura of Silence.

With those storms and peaces is Squee useful?
Also at first glance you need acceleration if you want to use phoenix (against gobs etc).

I would look at these threads:

I think that Iron Phoenix is basically a white control deck that focuses on doing funky things with Ensnaring bridge. This seems great if all you are going to play is aggro or burn, but control decks are going to have an easy time removing your bridge when it's established control and combo decks won't necessary care. I think that the decks I've linked too have updated the basic idea of a white control deck really well, and found some really interesting ways to attack some other archtypes. Good luck!
