Least/most satisfying deck to play online/irl?

Something occurred to me today and even though I really like the decks I generally play, they often seem to be extremely dissatisfying to play online because random people often have a tendency to not bother to try to win and just scoop and look for another game that I assume they will hope to win.

Personally, I enjoy the road to victory and the strategy used to win a lot more than actually winning. I obviously like winning a lot, but I will enjoy myself almost as much in losing a really, really tight game as I would a really really tight win.

Lately, I have been playing 'Geddon $tax and as much as I like the deck and enjoy playing it, it is one of the most unsatisfying decks to play with because it is a complete dog in games where it does not cooperate and is almost equally annoying in how a lot of people will just scoop in the first game without even trying to win as soon as I get a part of a lock out. It's totally retarded. One of the first things I learned in tournaments and competitive play is don't scoop as soon as you think you might lose in the first game and at least try to make your opponent work for it a bit so you can get more info about their deck before you move on to the second game for siding.

Anyway, I'm just curious what competitive decks people find dissatisfying and also very satisfying to play and win with online/irl. I know that online is different because there are some losers out there that will join a casual game online with their TEPS deck and so forth and seem to only play to win and seem to have no interest in any of the finer aspects of the game, so that's why I am asking about both irl and online.

For me, one of my most dissatisfying decks to play online is $tax and the most satisfying is mono blue draw-go.

For me since I created my deck, TES is always a blast for me to play. I love being in bad positions and trying to find a way out. People would think goldfishing my opponents gets old, NOPE! For me it's something that will never grow old.

Nice, yeah I wouldn't be able to do the combo thing and enjoy it a lot every time. I like to fight my way out of really bad situations by being tricky and manipulating my opponent if I can and then completely gain control of the game. I love that shit.

Re: Least/most satisfying deck to play online/irl?

In person, I really enjoy playing games where I have lots of opportunities to outplay my opponents. I used to enjoy playing Thresh and enjoying that feeling of always being just half a step ahead of my opponent until I won; now, playing Thresh means feeling a few steps behind while I get smashed.

As un-fun as it sounds, as long as neither person has a dumb hand, I really enjoy the Survival mirror. Especially when I know I'm the slightly better player with the slightly better build, those games put me in the position where I outplayed my opponent and win a close game.

Loam decks, while awesome and fun for a little while, end up feeling dirty while I play with my turn forever, look at 10 cards, and then smash my opponent. Satisfying...but dirty.

There are days where I want to kill turn one, days where I want to answer everything, days I want to play resource denial, days where I want to creature swarm and so on and so forth. Survival was the one deck I never really got into.

I used to test Dragonstompy on MWS because I wanted to find a replacement for Arc Slogger and turn 1 moon effect/trinisphere caused too many System Player Lost.

I'd have to say any deck that plays Force of Will is satisfying for me to play in person. The ability to do something and know that you are protected with a extra padded helmet that a handicapped child would wear is a nice feeling.

Re: Least/most satisfying deck to play online/irl?

The most satisfying deck that I ever played was Netherhaups. Back when Invasion was just released into type 2, the deck was all about Vampiric Tutoring for Jokulhaups or Obliterate and then winning with Nether Spirit and Chimeric Idol. Using the sac lands from Invasion to power out a turn 3 Jokulhaups was SO much fun and the most satisfying game ever was against Mono-U 20counter.dec. Everything I played was countered including Nether Spirit, then when I cast Obliterate and he tried to counter it but I insisted he read the card, it was just like a massive FUCK YOU AND UR GAY ASS BORING DECK. One of the best things ever in Magic! Currently the most satisfying deck for me to play is Eternal Garden/Loam variants. There is an insane amount of thought that goes into what lands to search out, when to dredge, did I tap right, what should I recur, is it to early to cast Wish? I love playing the Eternal Garden deck because it makes you constantly think and it doesn't forgive play errors which in turn makes you a better magic player. Plus it is just bas ass having my opponents constantly read Ghost Quarter to make sure it really is Strip Mine when they are out of basics!

I'm not going to lie, I'll play most decks, but there is one that I refuse to play anymore.

You mean playing against it, or playing it yourself?

I also have strong feelings towards Solidarity. I adore the deck, I love playing it in real life, but I hate playing it on MWS. Either the shuffler betrays me, or I get

Player plays random spell from Hand
    <Taurelin>in response:
Taurelin plays High Tide from Hand
    <System>Player Lost

Re: Least/most satisfying deck to play online/irl?

In the context of the rest of the comment, I think he means playing with it.

--At least that's how I interpreted it.

As someone that has been on the receiving end of a solidarity deck, it is really annoying waiting during their five minute turn on mws only to have them fizz out and then take a turn that is ten minutes long a few turns later and finally win in the first game...very annoying. What I like about the the newer tendrils decks, especially with the addition of Ad Nauseum is that when they go off, I am pretty safe in scooping and knowing that they will win that turn.

With decks like Solidarity, you don't know if your opponent is competent a lot of the time, so you will wait through the brutal ten minute turn just in case they shoot a blank or because you have a blessing in your deck.

Then again, the decks I tend to chose have lost if a combo player starts to go off and have no ways to interrupt it either most of the time.

The deck I enjoyed the most to play was warpworld in Ravnica's T2. It was too fun.

The deck I prefer to play now is Big Fish, because that's the only deck I play well, because I made it, because it owns my local meta and because most players don't know how to play against.

    I like goblins.
There's something satisfying about having a vial on 3 and nothing on the table, your opponent attacks, EOT you vial in a warchief and during your turn you drop a piledriver, a matron and find another piledriver, drop it and swing.

It feels like being a ninja.
Hell, I'd play a ninjadeck if I had more cards to choose from but until then I'll stick to beating up people with angry green men.

Wildfire for online. Against MWS randoms, you'll either be facing terrible decks like vampire tribal, or decks that people want to learn like Thresh. Wildfire is good against crap and 'refined' blue decks like Thresh and Landstill.

Re: Least/most satisfying deck to play online/irl?

For me, the most satisfying deck to play on MWS must be Wildfire.
Might not be the best deck and gets raped by most everything that packs Wastelands or ways to destroy my artifacts.
But most people don't know what my deck is supposed to be and just overextend like crazy till they run into a well timed Burning of Xinye, or Devastation.
Also, love playing against everything Threshold because I pack a set of Akroma, Angel of Fury. And of course, I hardcast it like a real man.
Most of the time, they still try to counter her or play a Swords to Plowshares. :D
Btw, yesterday I had a crazy game against Imperial Painter where a sole Akroma won me the game.

Least satifying to play for me personally, must be my Trinketpainter deck.
A quick 'Player Lost' is common when I get either part of my combo down, with my opponent saying I'm a noob, the combo sucks etc.

Least satisfying is Storm combo. Almost everybody quits before you get to blast their heads off with Tendrils. I mean, if I spend a lot of time knocking my head around to get around hate and to win, the least the opponent can do is to actually take the 30 life loss.

QTF. However, this rarely happens IRL.

    Faerie Stompy IMO.

It is a blast to play it is also very good yet somewhat inconsistent if you have no idea how to properly shuffle. The deck won't cause your opponents to not have fun, but is still capable of doing stupid broken shit.

Dragonstompy is good IRL, not so kind online. The MWS shuffler does brutal things both ways sometimes.

Ichorid is fun too when it works, seems to go off more often on MWS than in real testing

I hate aggro decks. I just SUCK at playing pure aggro decks. It shouldn't be possible to suck with aggro decks as much as I do and it shouldn't be possible to not understand the art of Timmy like I apparently don't.

I love control and combo decks. There is absolutely nothing more fun than playing Spring Tide, Solidarity, Aluren, Landstill, and resolving cards like Counterbalance, Brain Freeze, Tendrils, and Counterspell.
    WHAT? No, just no.
