Wow, back to back with Hadley. Team Maine will be there.
Make the buy in more then me and a couple others will come. Otherwise it's just not worth it.
Team NeverWin: We just top 8 a lot.
Too lazy to post.
How many people showed up for the last one ahd what was the payout to top places? It would be sweet to hit this up on the way back to Maine if the prize support was worth rolling into school after 2:00 a.m. only to have to get up at 7:00 a.m. later that morning. Also, I've never been to YMG, is there legacy playable stuff that you can get with the credit or is it just standard and packs?
Last time the store brought in a handful of duals and other eternal staples (I remember seeing Vampiric Tutor, though obviously that is less appealing for a Legacy crowd) that could be purchased with the store credit. Generally they tend to have Standard/Extended/Packs. A phone call or two could entice them to make sure there is stuff at hand perhaps, but I don't want to speak for the store.
As for the numbers/prizes from last time, I remember there being about 20 players. The bottom few of the Top 8 received ~$12, then it jumped to about ~$30 in the middle, and towards the top was ~$50, with first maybe getting $80-100? But again, that was last time, and I think someone from outside the store organized the event, so the structure could be totally different. (The store was initially going to hand out the duals as the prize support).
And thanks Peter_Rotten for helping me get this posted, along with fixing my posting abilities.
cool. The 28th is my sister's birthday, so i cant make the hadley event, but as i'll be staying the weekend at their house this event is just a short walk away. Great timing.
They do have some Legacy stuff. We got a Scrubland last time. Also, I would have probaby gotten back to Orono around 1am if not for the tremendous snow storm that rolled in.
On a side note, I'm relocating to cambridge next year so I'll look forward to these and hope they get a solid showing even if I don't make it to this one.
I have to work Saturday and miss Hadley, so I'll probably show up for this one. Tournaments close to home are always welcome.
If only this were today, then I would go!
There were like 26 people who registered for the event last time. It was nice having a close tournament for once.
12 players - 4 rounds, cut to top 4. Top 4 was:
Chingsung Chang - Faeries
Scott Blumenthal - Natural Order Standstill
Michael French - GB Natural Order
Blaine Christiansen - Ad Nauseam Tendrils
Update: Corrected information

Minor corrections: I was playing a Natural Order/Standstill concoction, not Thresh, and the unnamed player with G/B Natural Order (no Survival) was Michael French.
They're holding another one of these next month, but I don't think I'll be attending. Maybe the turnout just sucked because it was back-to-back with Hadley, but I also think the $8 entry with crappy store credit prize probably also drove people away. I'd rather drive an hour every Wednesday night to Worcester for tournaments with comparable (sometimes larger) turnouts and better prize support in addition to better card selection and price in store. For these to be successful, I really think there needs to be incentive for people to travel. $8 entry for store credit prizes at a store with HORRENDOUS prices on singles ($30 for a played Savannah? $27 for a fucking PLATEAU???) and poor selection just does not cut it. Just my 2 cents.
Ouch, poor turnout; who would we have to talk to get the entry fee bumped up to at least $10 for future events? The store is in a prime location for a large monthly tourney.
@Brian and Ian: You guys let Chingsung show you up? Shame.
I will continue to go to these tournaments whenever possible regardless of the entry/prize structure just because they're so close to where I live. However, I do think it's a good idea to increase the entry to $12-15, with a more interesting prize structure than store credit. Duals, FOW, Goyfs, etc. are pretty standard Legacy prizes. Most Legacy players in the area will have to travel at least a little way to get to YMG, and they are not likely to do so for $30 in store credit.
Especially when $30 store credit translates to a played Savannah... facepalm.
Like everyone is saying to get any sort of draw they need to offer up some staples as support, and have a higher buy in to support that. Hopefully whoever is doing the promoting / organizing can work something like that out.
