I have actually played with flash in the board before and it did its job against dredge, but it was by no means a great card. I think it has gotten better with the advent of masses of tribal decks, but DS itself would probably have to shift its creature base to play any more than 2.
Red Wizard needs food badly!
Just side out Maulers when boarding in Flashes...? Magii of the Moon still comes in handy, especially since you can turn one drop it and turn 2/3 drop flash...
I don't think too much changes when you side that way.

Schadenfreude is the most genuine kind of joy, since it doesn't include even a drop of envy. Why can't we just admit it?
IMHO Aether Flash is baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad. It doesn't kill Goyf, and pretty much shuts down the deck. No more Magi, Maulers, and you can only play Gathan Raiders directly face up. Plus, makes Slogger vulnerable to bolt. It's a disaster. I really loathe that card. I'd rather stab my kidneys with a sacrificial dagger.

Bad vs goyf yes. So are all clasm effects. None of them are strong enough to take out a late goyf (save D-dreams). and vs Zoo... do you realy put in your clasm effects or do you hope 3sphere them turn1? Seriously. All the other agro is almost all tribal (even D&T is mostly humans). It's not that bad of an idea.
Yes, you can. This still leaves Magus of the Moon, SSG, and Mauler/Sulfur/Whatever as uncastable, meaning Aether Flash shuts down all but 12 of your threats.
@Aether Flash: My brain screams that this is janky as hell and probably awful, but dropping it against Ichorid (If you can do it before they knock it out of your hand) is hilarious. I can also see it being a monster against Goblins, Merfolk, Elves, and it shuts down things like Elspeth and Decree of Justice, although I can't imagine boarding in Aether Flash against any deck packing those.
I think you have to change your deck around if you're going to do it. Namely, the Mauler slot has to be something that can survive the Flash.
second it will just get EE or disked.
in general thought theres not enough pro red red creatures to use with aether flash, we can only use the big costly fish.
beaten it how? did the deck you play not have chalice or sphere on the table with it?
@ Aether Flash
Varchild's War-Riders anyone???![]()
Beware of the man who works hard to learn something, learns it, and finds himself no wiser than before. He is full of murderous resentment of people who are ignorant without having come by their ignorance the hard way.
I cut the mauler slot for Goblin Assault a while back. It's bad sinergy with Flash but It works better against Thresher's new beasty. I also run Gargadon to have another creature to survive the flash. It turned threaten into a removal spell as well as gave me something that can eat other things I need to be removed. It also comes down at instant speed if need be.
I also jsut came back from a Turny where I ended up going 2-2 (pilot error).
R1 - Berserk STompy... I kept a hand that had a first turn Magus and nothing else (that was my mistake). I figured that since I was on the play that the Magus would buy me the time needed to get something else. So after I play the magus, My opponent goes Forest... Jungle Cat. I don't draw anything but lands and I'm dead 2 turns later.
Game 2 - I play a first turn 3sphere, Second turn Chalice at 1, Third turn Chalice at 2. I thought I had the game and was going to play dragon next turn and ride it to Victory... Then he played Seeds of Innocence.... Which I never knew existed. I didn't have another lock piece for him and he beat me in 2 turns.
R2 - Survival Welder - I 1st turn Chalice for 1. Second turn Magus and he scooped..... I had no idea of what he was playing so I didn't board. I saw a couple of fetches that never got used (2 foothills) so I wasn't going to make any assumptions. I had G1. Game 2 I first turn Magus... He lets him beat him to death alongside 3 Goblin Assaults. it took a couple of turns but it wan't that many.
R3 - A bad version of that old school mono white beltcher deck... I know this because he showed me after... at the end of game 1 he had 17 snow covered plains plains and that's all I know he had outside of wrath of god. So I brought in 2 clasms... right call. He played a Martial coup for 10... don't ask how he wan't dead yet. It was weird. I won the match on the back of Goblin Assault x2 for the one he O-ringed.
R4 - Black Thresh - I don't remember Game 1 but I lost. G2 - I ended up boarding in 3 threatens and out 2 Jittes and 1 Dragon. I didn't need him sending a dragon back my way since I knew he had Sower. I played a goblin Assault T1 which was more bait for his force so I could Magus Turn 2 but the Assault stuck and ran him threw in a couple of turns. The magus just added to the flavor. Game 3 I turn 1 3sphered which was Forced but I had 2 magus in hand. Turn 2 he plays bob and passes. I resolved both Magus over the course of the next turns (suspending a gargadon for the first) and he top decks one of 2 basic islands (I know this because he told me after the match). The first Magus bit it to Bob (play error) while the second to a hydro blast. Then it was all downhill. I will say though, I did also forget to sac the bob that was getting blasted to a Gargadon. The Gargadon eventually came into play and was sowered... GG.
that does remind me i read tacos thoughts on gargadon yet i never did try it out. but i did put in coalstrokers those have been interesting along side the maulers. come to think of it coalstroker would be idea creature for going in with aether flash.
I didn't even think about stoker. Not that he's not good I just didn't think of him. He seems like he's become more of a choice, now that mana burn is gone. That was his biggest issue prior to. it also gives some extra R mana for things like Flash, Dragon, and Slogger.
Maybe we should be giving him an extra thought now.
The problem with Stoker is that it fights with RPD in terms of mana curve. He is playable, now that mana burn has expired, but it is not as it's good. Paying 4 mana for a 3/3? I'd rather pay 4 mana for a 3/3 jumping/firebreathing/asswhupping Dragon.

For some reason I was thinking Coal Stoaker was a red Priest of Gix... My apologies.
one good thing would be perhaps in the zoo match up? i mean hes a extra 3/3 for those fast aggro matches when they go first.
Anyone tryed Flametongue Kavu in the Mauler slot?
I mean, I play the usual list with 8 moon effects, 4 trinis and 4 chalice.
2 Open slots are for mauler/pyrokinesis/kavu/jitee (or even sulfur)
Thoughts?
I almost always face like... uhm... 2 Zoo decks in any 6-round swiss + top8 tournament, and the best play I can think of is Chalice@1 + Magus of the Moon/Blood Moon. We really need Chalice of the Void. Also, when they go first, it may be a problem if they fetch for their basic forest. I've seen this only once, and in fact I lost that game. You need bigger creatures, or at least a Moon effect (I'd rather have a Blood Moon instead of a Magus in this case), otherwise you'll be cursing Grips/Hooligans/Pridemages forever. For the p/t part, Coal Stoker can't solve this, as it's boltable. There are better things to do with four mana.
P.S. Pyrokinesis is there to help against Zoo, especially when UR on the draw, as you can play a threat without worrying about being outraced.
P.P.S. If I ever get my hands on a red Priest of Gyx...
P.P.P.S. I play FTK in the sb as a 2-of. It really helps against Zoo/Goblin/Merfolk/Bant and many Rock builds. I found it to be amazing, as it kills a Sower, or a Lord, or a War Monk, or a <insert target non-Goyf creature>. It is harder to CBalance than Slogger. Also, it can remove creatures the turn it comes into play, unlike Slogger (except in the case you have lottsa mana). Cmc 4 is good. Spot removal attached to a 4/2 body is better. And dodging Needle on Slogger is tech.

Red priest of gix is coming it just takes pacients... /taps foot and looks at watch... followed by a grumble at wizards.
I have a hypothetical idea. What if against particularly say the landstill match all lands were destroyed? I say this as in early game as well, say its turn 8 or so only about 4 or so lands on each side. Would this just train wreck control match ups?
@ johanessen
I've tried him and there has been many a time i wished i had left him in the deck instead of taking him out.
particularly against the guy who thought it be funny to play green stompy against me last week. Some how a combination of kitchen finks and garruk when ape on me. point being the damn finks would of stayed dead if i had more than pyrokinesis to shoot at them
second you need something in the md to shoot at annoying mono blue that gets off a sower of "temper tantrums".
