Still looking for FBB Lightning Bolts. German or Korean is preferred. PM me if you have them

    That calendar says: "10:00am - 11:00am". Is that a 10am start, or a 10-11 registration? >.<

I contacted the place. Tom Shea says:

"We will be collecting registration slips and the entry fee from 10:15 to 11:00 We will then collect deck lists at the player meeting before round 1."

    Tournament should start 11-ish.

This might be a long shot, but anyone have a set of 'Goyfs I can borrow for this? We only have one set between my brother and me and I really don't feel like playing a Goyfless deck. I have plenty of collateral/other cards anyone may need to borrow.

    My hero.

It's been a while since I've gotten to sling cardboard, so I'm quite excited. Will also be a much needed diversion from the loads of schoolwork I have over the next few weeks.

Tournament was great fun. 33 people showed up. I started out 2-0 to an illustrious finish of 2-4. Top 8 was:
    Merfolk vs Enchantress
    Aggro Rock vs NOStill (VsTheWorld)
    ProBant vs ANT
    Exalted+Selkie.dec vs Ugbr (I think) CB/Top (Brassman)

I know Enchantress and Rock won, but I left after that, so I didn't see how the rest of the Top8 played out.

I had a great time. The event was run very well and it was a nice environment. Hopefully they decide to run another.
Team NeverWin: We just top 8 a lot.

QFT. Good location, nice selection of singles and games at the store, and very professionally run. It was a very competitive field as well. Congrats to the rest of the top 8.

Edit: In case anyone is interested, here's my NOSTill decklist. It's far from optimal and I have no evidence to prove it's better than something like Supreme Blue or ProBant, but it's fun to play at any rate.

    4 Brainstorm
    4 Force of Will
    4 Sensei's Divining Top
    4 Counterbalance
    3 Standstill
    3 Spell Snare
    3 Firespout
    2 Natural Order
    1 Crucible of Worlds
    4 Tarmogoyf
    3 Eternal Witness
    2 Werebear
    1 Progenitus
    4 Misty Rainforest
    4 Tropical Island
    3 Mishra's Factory
    2 Wasteland
    2 Volcanic Island
    2 Island
    1 Forest
    1 Dryad Arbor
    1 Scalding Tarn
    1 Polluted Delta
    1 Flooded Strand

    Sideboard:
    4 Blue Elemental Blast
    3 Sower of Temptation
    3 Lightning Bolt
    3 Krosan Grip
    2 Jace Beleren

Maindeck Firespouts were a metagame call for Zoo and Merfolk, so I obviously faced Survival, 2 CB/Top decks, Rock, ANT, and Rock again in Top 8. Spouts were boarded out every round. Bolts could shift to the main and Spout to the side, but having 7 3 cmc cards maindeck for CB is nice. Alternatively, those slots could become 2 Trinket Mage (to up the slightly low blue count while maintaining 3 cmc's for CB) and a singleton Explosives, because the deck is a little bit weak to resolved threats.

Re: [Legacy] 12/5/09 - Tom Shea's Battle for Dual Lands!

In case anyone's interested, here's what I played:

    4 Wooded Foothills
    3 Bloodstained Mire
    2 Verdant Catacombs
    4 Bayou
    2 Taiga
    1 Badlands
    2 Forest
    2 Swamp
    1 Mountain
    1 Volrath's Stronghold
    1 Oran-Rief, the Vastwood

    4 Tarmogoyf
    4 Kitchen Finks
    4 Vampire Nighthawk
    3 Eternal Witness

    4 Terminate
    4 Lightning Bolt
    3 Pernicious Deed

    4 Sensei's Divining Top
    3 Thoughtseize
    2 Unearth
    2 Moment's Peace

    SB: 2 Choke
    SB: 2 Krosan Grip
    SB: 1 Red Elemental Blast
    SB: 2 Pyroblast
    SB: 3 Firesput
    SB: 1 Tormod's Crypt
SB: 1 Leyline of the Void
    SB: 1 Ravenous Trap
    SB: 1 Extirpate
    SB: 1 Relic of Progenitus

Horrible metagame prediction on my part. I was expecting shitloads of Aggro and got a room full of CounterTop and Storm. Brief report:

Round 1 vs Brent (Misplayer) w/ Ugr Painter
Game 1: Witness + Finks + a couple board resets with Deed gets there. He eventually Grinds me, but I have Stronghold in play, which gets back Witness -> Bolt to finish him off.
Game 2: He gets double Shackles but I resolve a very timely Choke with the help of some Red Blasts. I sit on Witness + Unearth holding back a Goyf forever and the game ends in a draw.
    (1-0)

Round 2 vs Roland w/ Domain Zoo
Game 1: Finks + Nighthawk + Lots of removal >> Zoo.
Game 2: He draws a bit too much burn (including 2 Tribal Flames).
Game 3: Finks + Nighthawk + Lots of removal >> Zoo.
    (2-0)

Round 3 vs John w/ GBW Aggro Rock (played Ritual, Hymn, Wastes, plus most of the other Rock essentials)
Game 1: He draws Top, triple Hymn, and a few Wastes. I'm never even in this game.
Game 2: Pretty much the same thing. Wastelands plus a really timely Hymn make my life difficult.
    (2-1)

    Round 4 vs Alex w/ Ugb CB/Top+Stifle/Waste.dec
Game 1: I can't read my own handwriting on this one, but I think I can make out "Goyf" and "Nighthawk." I guess they got there.
Game 2: He does his mana denial thing and I cry.
Game 3: My notes just say "GOD DRAWS" so I guess he drew pretty well or something. He gets an early CB/Top, which my brother informs me after the game that he consecutively topdecked, and I draw 1 drops for about 6 turns.
    (2-2)

Round 5 vs Ben Lukas (Forceofwill) w/ Lands
Game 1: He gets turn 1 Manabond and I scoop pretty early realizing I have no chance.
Game 2: I open with a Thoughtseize seeing Trop, Thicket x2, Factory x2, Maze x2. Factories + Maze + Tabernacle pretty much get there over my triple Nighthawk. My gravehate didn't do much here.
    (2-3)

    Round 6 vs Blaine (B.C.) w/ ANT
He gets paired down so I tell him I'll scoop to him. Not that I have a chance in this MU anyways. We play it out anyways.
Game 1: He's playing Storm and I play shittons of board control.
Game 2: He keeps a terrible hand and Thoughtseize + Triple Goyf get there.
Game 3: Storm (When you cast this spell, copy it for each spell cast before it this turn. You may choose new targets for the copies.)
    (2-4)

Despite the poor record, the deck really didn't perform too poorly. It has enormous trouble in the face of mana denial, which is something I have to address. If I had been able to cast spells in Round 3 and 4, I would've stood much more of a chance. Also, I was expecting a decent amount of Dredge, and thus boarded for it instead of combo. And obviously, Moment's Peace didn't do much, except against Zoo (like I said, I was expecting Aggro). Other than that, the list is pretty strong, but definitely requires optimization.

On another note, I really enjoyed the event. I hope they do more in the future, and, if there is enough support, maybe even start up weekly tournaments there.

    No decklists for this event?

Re: [Legacy] 12/5/09 - Tom Shea's Battle for Dual Lands!

I played vs Brassman in the top 8 and I was just playing a version of Bant aggro with Selkies in the side as something to test vs Countertop. They came out for the DHGs tourney as they weren't great and I needed more space in the board.

As someone else mentioned and I think it was a pretty popular opinion that Zoo and aggro in general would be popular. Most of my opponents said the same thing and were surprised by the meta.

    Here's what I played vs:
    Rd1 Enchantress (Top 4)
    Lost 1-2, I won game 1...
    Rd2 Goblins
Won 2-0 Sword of Fire and Ice showed up game 1 and he was mana screwed game 2
Rd3 Dana Rendrew playing Mono Black Combo
Won 2-0 I drew lots of Daze and Swords plus a clock, he wasn't very happy about it
Rd4 Painter Combo in CounterTop shell
Won 2-0 Won Game 1 on a mull to 5 by drawing multiple dazes
    Rd5 DragonStompy
Won 2-1 Game 1 he gets a Moon effect but doesn't draw one game 2 or 3 and I win both games at 1 life
    Rd6 Paired down vs Ant
Won 2-0 (I think) Game 1 he thinks I have counterbalance so he goes off too early and doesn't check for Force. Game 2 is closer but Goyf+Jitte beats Empty the Warrens and then I make a mistake with Vendillion Clique letting him cast Ad Nauseum during his upkeep instead of just winning the game. There is something I'm forgetting here, maybe someone else saw and can remember.

    Top 8 vs Brassman
    Won 2-1
I think I get Game 1 cause I draw more Goyfs than him. Game 2 he gets an early Goyf and I can't get back in the game. Game 3 I get 2 early Goyfs while he is stuck on mana and I have double Daze to stop his EE for 2. I think thats how things go.

Top 4 splits and we just trade Duals until everyone is happy.

    Here's the list:

    3 Noble Hierarch
    4 Qasali Pridemage
    4 Tarmogoyf
    4 Rhox War Monk
    2 Vendillion Clique
    2 Sower of Temptation
    1 Rafiq of the Many
    1 Kira Great Glass Spinner

    4 Brainstorm
    1 Ponder
    4 Force of Will
    4 Daze
    2 Umezawa's Jitte
1 Sword of Fire and Ice
    4 Swords to Plowshares

    4 Misty Rainforest
    4 Flooded Strand
    3 Tundra
    3 Tropical Island
    3 Island
    1 Forest
    1 Plains

    SB
    3 Gaddock Teeg
    3 Cold Eye Selkie
    2 Blue Elemental Blasts
    1 Hydroblast
    3 Krosan Grip
    3 Kitchen Finks
I cut the Dredge hate because we didn't see any before the tourney so I figured it was worth the risk.
