$2-3 for WB.
Oh snap, I'm gonna unload the 4th playset I picked up for a buck back in 1999. 700% gain, word.
As a player who is attempting to break back in to the game (Legacy specifically, for the second time in two years) I can only say I'm absolutely amazed by the price increases.
I read this thread from post one until the end. It was a long, long day. From what I gathered the majority of posters here seem to be in favor of a reprint/redistribution of most of the key legacy cards in one way or another. Even a majority of the posters who are in the HAVE's category seem to support it.
I can see both points of view really. I started playing right around the end of the Unlimited print run. Was absolutely outraged when Chronicles hit. Lost a lot of money (nothing compared to what halving the Dual Lands cost would do to some people on here obviously) in value of my collection. The game still did go on (admittedly Chronicles didn't reprint all that much that was any good).
But there is definitely a problem when I am looking at potential decks to build and to build an established deck I am looking at $700 or more. I understand fully that this format is expensive but that's just ridiculous. I'd like to see a Deck to Beat somewhere around $400-500 tops and a casual deck at $100-250. That just seems more favorable to all players.
Maybe I'm bitter thinking about how my old collection that I sold for $150 would probably be around $5000-6000 now.
I remember when you had to really think about trading a Shivan Dragon for a Mox Jet. And usually you thought about that trade for weeks wondering if you should've kept the Shivan.
What is up with enlightened tutors's sudden increase? I mean I cant find any in my city, and StarcityGames has them at $10.00 a piece. Im not mad cuz I have some but is the legacy demand that high now?
No. The price spike is a direct result of the recent success of Thopter decks. Sacher made T8 at the SCG in Orlando playing a Thopter Countertop deck that ran 4 Tutor. Not to mention their was a list in Indy at that SCG open that top 8ed and I believe ran a full set also.
So why is SCG buying Food Chain at $3? Banking on Recruiter getting unbanned?
Not really - plus Food Chain is fine in Goblins w/o Recruiter in Legacy (had several top 8 finishes across the world in the past year).
I've heard rumblings and grumblings about the Japanese working hard to break Food Chain in Legacy right now. Might not pan out to anything, but I tend to pay attention when someone mentions the Japanese plus a combo engine. I've seen a couple of very, very rudimentary versions of the deck on deckcheck.net (which have a lot of suboptimal cards), but the basic thought is that a evoked Mulldrifter = Six mana + 2 cards with a Food Chain out, and Deranged Hermit yields ten mana.

I'd love to see where you hunt for rumors. I get such a kick out of those Japanese guys who come up with these weird ideas that occasionally work, but I can't read Japanese and have no clue where they seem to congregate at. Chapin is my only source of juicy stuff, but he's usually out of town so I never talk to him much anymore.
BTW.
Seen a few decks using proxied up versions of ROE cards. Sadly enough, buy your Sneak Attacks. This stuff is actually kind of dumb how fast it is. Reminds me of Reanimators that don't use the grave, but have less resiliency to land hate. The funny thing is you can board into a graveyard deck for extra trickyness.
Sneak attack has always been very bad, I don't see it getting ridiculous now.
Although, for as long as it have been a bad card, casual players have liked it and being an obscure rare from Urza was enough to keep its price quite high, so I can see how a slight increase in demand can make it even more expensive. But the deck would still suck.
"Want all, lose all."
Why would you try to make a deck around Sneak Attack when Food Chain is so much better (you get to play creatures as a backup, you get to actually cast the Eldrazis, and it isn't in an awful color that forces you to "combo" with it, oh, and no EOT dying animals). Plus it's like 2.00$.
People wanted to buy playset of Spanish Foil Tarmogoyf at GP Madrid for 500€, and the owner says... NO![]()
I realize that the Revised ones are still "reasonable" compared to this(but still way to fucking high), but my jaw dropped.

That's not real surprising for an Underground Sea in that good of condition. I bid that one up to $500 myself, but called it good. I expect it to hit $700 or so.
As for the Sneak Attacks, guess it's too late now. Heh, missed your chance. Watch them go. Glad I was sitting on a few.
