Let's get some love for Alternate Universes. Bump. I for one will be attending, hoping to bring a few people myself. For future reference, you might want to include the state or Philly in the title to attract people from the area.
And here Chas said he posted it, and I was like "nah, I didn't see it". You got me, sir, good one.
I will be attending as well. The prize payout seems ridiculous for this and AU tournaments are always good. Also, if anyone is attending that has survivals, I would appreciate it if I could borrow/trade for them. I will be bringing a few people from Philly as well so this should have a good turnout.
Its strong. Especially if they guarantee a tiered break down like +200 cred for every 10 additional entrants.
It can be tough to gauge the interest level for tournaments.
I think the prize support on this was awfully good, to be honest.
They've been pulling in around 40x players for these so far in 2010 so I have to assume the prizes were based around that number.
You have:
4x Jace = $300
1x Moat = $150
2x $50 Credit = $100
4x $25 Credit = $100
Total prize for top 8 = $650
On top of this, you have like 4x $10 playmats given out at random PLUS 1x FTV Relics at $80. Adding this in, we see total prize giveaways / payouts of $770. At 40 players with $20 entry fee, you're looking at taking in $800 in entry fees, and they ended up with 40 players. Any time a TO gives out about the same in prizes than they take in from entry fees, that's damn good prize support.
I've never once been upset with the prize support at an AU event, or a Blue Bell Games Day event that's held at AU.
There were 16 playmats given away. 4 per round for rounds 3-6.
How did the top 8 pan out?
I'm not 100% sure i have all the decks / matchups correct but I believe it went like this:
Burn def. Merfolk
Dreadstill def. TES (me)
U/W Control def. Stax
UGBW CB/Top def. Survival Madness
UGBW CB/Top def. Burn
Dreadstill def. U/W Control
I left before the finals were over, but a CB/Top deck obviously won.
Matt, I was the one playing UGBW CB/Top. I decided to just split the finals with the dreadstill player. I was already pretty beat and the prize difference wasn't enough for either of us to risk it. I had beat him earlier in the swiss, but that's no guarantee that I wouldn't get screwed somehow and I really needed jaces, so we arranged a split. I think I'm going to attempt to write a tournament report too if anyone is interested. Also, its not like it really matters, but the deck was playing W as well for swords.
About the tournament in general, I really thought this was a great tournament. $20 entry with lots of prizes, lots of friendly opponents, and very little time between rounds made this one of the most fun times I've had playing legacy.
Well at least you broke your curse of making top 8 and exiting immediately at these. I, on the other hand.....
Anyway, I agree, these are well-run and I like the 40-50 player events. They're a nice way to get good testing in for Vestal or SCG events and the prize support is fine for this type of tournament.
Also, I got to play Diminishing Returns twice in the same turn today, so as far as I'm concerned, *I* am the winner. Even if, you know, I lost that game.
How did you play it twice? Remand?
Hey guys,
I just wanted to thank everyone that came out for the event yesterday. I will be back in bluebell on Monday so I will have access to the lists then and I will write up a report then. Thanks to Elias for posting the preliminary T8 breakdown. Also the best moment of the Top 8 was definitely as follows:
Burn: "I'm bored. I want to eat. Lets just get this over with. Fireblast you twice."
UGRW:"Ok I'm dead"
Burn: "Damnit!"
Then burn proceeded to lose game 3.
That was definitely a classic moment there. The other thing that stuck with me about the tournament was when someone pronounced progenitus like pro-gen-eat-us, followed by everyone around that table saying it like that for the rest of the day.
For those interested, I wrote up a tournament report which you can find here, fully detailing my luck over the course of the day.
As promised T8 lists are now posted in the T8 lists thread. A nice TO would provide you a link to said thread like this one but we all know Chas isn't a nice guy like that...wait...oh dang it...whatever...there goes my street cred. Thanks again to everyone who made the trip and we look forward to holding more of these tournaments as booking space permits. Currently we're looking at 10/23 for our next legacy tournament so keep your eyes peeled in the coming weeks for more info.
