If I have the Painter/Stone combo going, and I hit a Legendary Eldrazi, what happens? There has to be a ruling on this as it would just infinitely loop without one.
The grindstone activation will resolve, and then the Emrakul trigger will be put on the stack after Grindstone resolves. Emrakul will shuffle your opponent's graveyard back afterwards. No infinite loops here.
Basically,
1) you activate grindstone
2) emrakul hits the graveyard and you and your opponet remember to put the trigger on the stack after Grindstone's done
3) Grindstone puts the rest of your opponent's library into his graveyard
4) Emrakul's trigger is put on the stack and will shuffle his graveyard into his library
Note that this is different from e.g. Progenitus or Darksteel Colossus which will shuffle back during the resolution of Grindstone thus creatintg an infinite, unbreakable loop which will result in the game being a draw if you got at least 2 Progenitus in your deck when Grindstone resolves.
The seven cardinal sins of Legacy:
1. Discuss the unbanning ofLand TaxEarthcraft.
2. Argue that banning Force of Will would make the format healthier.
3. Play Brainstorm without Fetchlands.
4. Stifle Standstill.
5. Think that Gaea's Blessing will make you Solidarity-proof.
6. Pass priority after playing Infernal Tutor.
7. Fail to playtest against Nourishing Lich (coZ iT wIlL gEt U!).
Ok then, if you are playing 4 Emrakul and 4 Progenitus then your opponent grindstones you, what happens ? It's a draw or you just shuffle your graveyard in your library after getting milled ?
In your scenario:
1) Grindstone activates
2) When you hit a Progenitus:
Progenitus shuffles itself back in (does not use the stack, replacement effect)
It never hits the graveyard, the effect happens instead of it hitting the GY
3) When you hit an Emrakul:
Emrakul goes to the graveyard, and its trigger waits until grindstone finishes resolving to be put on the stack
So you will end with:
4 triggers of emrakul waiting to be stacked
For progenitus's looping the game into a draw.
It ends in a draw. Do you understand why though?
Correct
wait what? so that means you literally cant win with painterstone vs lets say sneak attack as long as they got emrakul in the deck? interesting :p
Or you could force your opponent to draw a card e.g. with Words of Wisdom, Mikokoro, Center of the Sea, , Blue Sun's Zenith, Cephalid Coliseum, Temple Bell, Stroke of Genius or something like that while Emrakul's trigger is on the stack.
