Have anyone else tried out Manriki-Gusari in the board against other stoneforge decks?

Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)

here is my deck, that I piloted 3-3 in a 57-Man Tournament today.

    4x Swamp
    2x Plains
    4x Marsh Flats
    4x Bloodstained Mire
    4x Scrubland
    2x Fetid Heath
    1x Wasteland

    4x Dark Confidant
    3x Gatekeeper of Malakir
    3x Vampire Nighthawk
    1x Jotun Grunt
    3x Stoneforge Mystic

    4x Inquisition of Kozilek
    2x Thoughtseize
    3x Hymn to Tourach
    2x Ghastly Demise
    4x Swords to Plowshares
    2x Vindicate

    2x Elspeth, Knight-Errant

    3x Sensei's Divining Top
    1x Umezawa's Jitte
1x Sword of Light and Shadow
1x Sword of Fire and Ice

    Sideboard

    3x Planar Void
    2x Nihil Spellbomb
    3x Ethersworn Canonist
    3x Engineered Plague
    3x Extirpate
    1x Batterskull

MUs in short, cause I'm tired and wrought the whole thing in German the last 30mins.

    G1
    Staxx
Game 1 loss, he is on 4 Life, Grunt had not enough cards to kill him, then slow beats
Game 2 Draw, we went into turns, needed 2 more turns, he was on 6
    0-1

    G2
    Mirror
Dominated him in both games, but was an odd list
    1-1

    G3
    Stiflenought
    had early Balance-Lock both games
    1-2

    G4
    Stiflenought
he had no luck with his balance and I drew/played good in both games. G2 I managed all 3 Nought (Discard, Sword, Gatekeeper^^)
    2-2

    G5
    Dredge
    G1 he does his thing
G2 he was annoyed about the heavy hate and scooped
G3 Long Game, I made a big missplay but brought it home last minute^^
    3-2

    G6
    Elves -.-
G1 beatdown with lords and Manaelves
G2 thought that I should have brought Perish instead of Plagues
    3-3

    Afterthoughts:
Fetid Heath is incredible good as 2off, makes the Manabase far more reliable for the difficult colourcosts
Batterskull is crazy, won me 4-5 games, will be maindeck from now on
Ghastly Demise is really good, shot down a 16/16 Gravetroll^^

    more maybe tomorow

That looks veryyy nice, but may I ask a few questions?
Why 3 SFM? and not 4 if youre about to play Batterskull? When did you board Batterskull?
Am I the only one playing DG with Aether Vial atm?

    Ty for the answers

3 SFM is enough for me, i draw them very fast, and deckspace is tight^^

I boarded Batterskull in nearly every game (or every?) cause he applies pressure, and puts you ahead in the race through lifelink/vigilance and playing him for five is not good, but not that bad either (did this twice)

dunno if you are the only one, but I'm not interested in playing vial^^

i think vial will be less needed if counterbalance sees less play, but i would say vial-build or no vial build will strongly depend on the meta (allthough i would definitely prefer the list without vial)

Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)

I read somewhere that GW Aggro is a haaard matchup for Deadguy - I was kinda surprised to read that, cause my brother plays a GW Zenith and we play like 10 games / day and I was never really in struggle, it more looks like a fair and cool matchup to be honest.

Ill tell you guys my list

    4 Aether Vial
    4 Dark Confidant
4 Mother of Runes (OMG i wanna get rid of her all the time, but everytime i play vs GW aggro i love her for being here :) )
    4 Tidehollow Sculler
    4 Serra Avenger
    4 Stoneforge Mystic
    2 Umezawas Jitte
    1 Batterskull
1 Sword of Light and Shadow
4 Oblivion Ring (I would buy Vindicate if anyone sold it....)
    4 Swords to Plowshares
    4 Smother
    2 Jotun Grunt

What you guys think of it?
The decks my buddies around me play(so called home-meta)
    Gw aggro: Works nice
    Affinity: No Problem either
DnT (green): I cant really say its easy, i win like 3-4/10 which is kinda low - idk why - its just outremoving me and beating me down with goyf
Dredge: Ofc its brutal hard postboard
Enchantress: Didnt play it since months :) was afraid of it since i played magic^^
    Landstill: Quite a fair matchup

What you think of it guys? Greetings

Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)

there are some few things that bother me

    1. no targeted discard aside of tidehollow sculler
    2. no hymn to tourach, one of the best existing cards in black
    3. oblivion ring instead of vindicates (ok i admit they are pricey)
    4. 4 smother? why this, would be better if this would be targeted discard (thoughtseize, if budget inquisition of kozilek)

    that would be everything

PS: no description of manabase is a bothersome as well^^

I dont tell you guys my manabase cause of a specific reason I dont wanna tell - youd all just laugh....

Ok, nah its not the price, i was looking at miraclegames and cardkingdom and no1 there was able to sell a vindicate.......
the problem with discard - did you check my meta? all the time i boarded discard in, i failed brutally, i always thought, why dont I have removal in that spot and there we goooo : smother or ghastly demise - just waays better in my meta :)

what would you guys play instead of mother of runes?

Mother of runes are fine in a vial version of the deck.

Gonna add some Phyrexian Arena into my board against control decks, as i want more then just 4 dark confidants in thoes matchups. Arena also ignores Spellsnare and Mental misstep, while they might board out misstep against us it still ignores Spellsnare.

I played Deadguy again at the SCG Invitational. Didn't do as well as I would've liked. My tournament report can be found here:http://www.mtgthesource.com/forums/s...472#post557472

I like your deck except no chrom mox in it :P I saw Joe Bernal playing his version with 4th bitterblossom, 2 cabal therapy 1 extra in board 3 chrome mox, 4 hymn version i really like what I saw from the Therapys and bitterblossoms.

Honestly I cant understand, why you would play chrome mox - Id prefer Aether Vial or Dark Ritual as an accalerator to be honest.....

Most of our big plays are 2-drops, and it gets around Misstep? Also, a lot of people are playing Gatekeepers now and Vial with Gatekeeper is definitely a non-bo.

First of it avoids Mental Misstep. Vials needs you to run enought creatures for it to be useful as you wont be casting any spells with vials :P With Dark Ritual you wont be able to cast a turn 1 Stoneforge mystic / Tidehollow Sculler. If im gonna 2 for 1 myself then I rather do it with card that remain to use for more then 1 turn like Ritual while more explosive it only last that turn. But mostly the Misstep I want to avoid with Mox instead of the ritual. Also i want to play Gatekeeper now to add more 2 for 1 cards wich its filled with already. Purely a Card advantech deck :P

    I'm with you here Riszo,

Avoiding MM is the huge advantage that the mox gives you

Ok I got it :) I got something to discuss here - a lil bit more up i posted my list without any manabase - its got a reason - I got a kinda strange manabase. Lemme tell you it. (im playing without Gatekeeper)
    4 Wasteland
    4 Marsh Flats
    12 Basics

Even though it might look not that good - this Manabase is invulnerable to other wastes and still kinda good. What you think of it??

    Godspeed

Sounds terrible. There's a reason everyone plays Duals. It's because mana consistency is better than losing some land Wastelands. It also lets you play good spells, like Hymn to Tourach and Gatekeeper.

Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)

    Hi all!
I'm tuning now such list (Joe Bernal's from ssg open):

    4 Dark Confidant
    3 Gatekeeper of Malakir
    2 Mirran Crusader
    3 Stoneforge Mystic

    3 Cabal Therapy
    4 Hymn to Tourach
    4 Thoughtseize
    3 Vindicate
    3 Bitterblossom

    1 Batterskull
1 Sword of Fire and Ice
    1 Umezawa's Jitte
    2 Sensei's Divining Top
    4 Swords to Plowshares

    1 Elspeth, Knight-Errant

    3 Chrome Mox
    2 Plains
    2 Swamp
    4 Marsh Flats
    4 Scrubland
    3 Verdant Catacombs
    3 Wasteland

My meta is highly aggressive. Several Merfolks, Goblins, Mavericks, Zoo. Rarely Naya Loam, Rock, Team America, ANT/TES and Landstill.
I need advices especially on sideboard.
Is Bitterblossom good is such meta?
+ It can provide blockers to stall the game. Faeries can carry equipment over opp's creatures.
    - Life loss and speed.

What side would you advise? I'm thinking of something like that:
    3 Path to Exile
1 Sword of Feast and Famine
    1 Mirran Crusader
    2 Phyrexian Revoker
    2 Pithing Needle
    1 Elspeth
    3 Extirpate
    1 Relic
    1 Crypt

May be I should move Path to main instead of Blossom?

Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)

Sounds like you dont really need thoes extirpate and other gravehate for you meta. You got Cabal Therapy, swords and Batterskull against dredge.

I would pack a couple of Perish in your board. And tbh I dont like the tops in the deck. With so many aggressive decks I would increase your bitterblossoms and Stoneforge to 4 at the cost of mirran crusaders that can be easly moved to the board incase of decks like team america rock etc. Also get a sword of war and peace into your 75.

I wouldnt move out the bitterblosssom for Paths, its one of the strongest cards. Especialy when you use equipments and Cabal Therapy.
