    Is Land Destruction Extinct?

    Counters:
    4 mental misstep
    4 force of will
    2 force spike
    2 daze
    3 stifle

    LD:
    4 sinkhole

    Removal:
    3 chain of vapor

    LD/removal:
    4 smallpox

    Kill:
    4 entomb
    4 bloodghast
    1 nether spirit
    3 tombstalker

    Manabase:
    4 wasteland
3 rishadan port (4 is harsh because I need 2 black mana)
    2 urborg, tomb of yawgmoth!?
1 oboro, palace in the clouds (for bloodghast)
    4 polluted delta
    4 underground sea
    2 island
    2 swamp

    SideBoard:
    4 engineered explosives (against weenies)
4 leyline of the void (LD sucks against dredge, maybe surgical extraction for life from the loam?)
    3 spell pierce (combo, enchantress)
    2 llawan (merfolk, progenitus)
    2 submerge (zoo)

Everything is quick and low mana cost. Sorry, I don't run Bob with Tombstalker and Force of Will (bad memories there). The deck essentially tries to counter the first play with mental misstep or "unless its controller pay 1" cards or the occasional stifle the first fetchland play Force of will is for unexpected things that need to be countered like natural order or goblin charbelcher...
You've got sinkhole, wasteland and smallpox for land kill. And then you have rishadan port to stop their remaining mana.
Chain of vapor is a good all removal in a sense because the deck will try to mana cripple the opponent and play daze or so when tarmogoyf or knight of the reliquary try to hit the board again. They won't be able to afford to sacrifice a land. The only thing I'm worried about is a bounced tombstalker I like to play entomb in turn 1 or 2 because people always expect a reanimator deck and instead I fetch a nether spirit/bloodghast/narcomoeba? Tombstalker gets out pretty fast so I run 3.

What do you think? Does it suck? Is it awesome anyways
Questions: Can this deck not be called an LD deck because all it has is smallpox (which might not be considered LD?), sinkhole and the maybe conditional wasteland? Should one splash white for vindicate, swords, stoneforge and mana tithe (my favorite card) lol?

    What about this combo?

    urborg
    spreading algea
    rishadan port

Use rishadan port to kill any land xD?

PS: Can anyone tell me how to properly post links so that if you hold your mouse over the name the picture of the card is displayed? This is my st post...

You use the cards tag to get the mouseover thing working.

    [ cards]
    Card names
    [ /cards]

Just take out the spaces after the opening brackets.

Honestly, I would love to see LD work again as an archetype, but it always seems to have the fundamental problem of needing the right cards in the right sequence to win. If you don't open with a hand that can deal with their 1-drop and their first couple lands, then play a threat, you usually end up in a hole you can't dig yourself out of.

You may be on the right track with this Pox + counters list, but on paper it looks like you're pretty light on threats and removal. Discard also goes really well with LD. I would consider something like this:

    -4 Entomb
    -1 Nether Spirit
    -2 Force Spike
    -3 Chain of Vapor

    +4 Thoughtseize
    +4 Brainstorm
    +1 Stifle
    +1 Daze

Also running more than 2 Urborgs is generally bad, would cut one for a swamp.
I think the biggest thing is the deep seeded emotional understanding that the right play is the right play regardless of outcomes. The ability to make a decision 5 straight times, lose 5 times because of it, and still make it the 6th time if it's the right play. - Jon Finkel

LD's not extinct. This is a viable LD deck, although it's fairly grave-dependent.

Well, people wanna use thier sinkholes.. and im one of them. But despite my efforts to crush opponents through mana denial in Legacy, there is just to many ways to work around the sinkholes. Goblins does'nt need mana, they have the Lackey working for them.
Merfolk? forget it.. they still have the vials, even if you dodge their counters. Elves does'nt need lands either... they produce their own mana. Stax? like kicking water uphill.. I hate to sound like a pessimist, or rain on your parade, but most decks can get by on very little mana in this format. So even if you crush the occasional control deck, im afraid land destruction will remain a deck for the casual games.
