Just a noob question: If this priest-guy eats a lightning bolt, do we get to destroy three nonland permanents or just one?

Yup. Npw, if it has, say, a Ring of Xathrid on it...This guy is blatantly abusable. It also makes baby Eldrazi cry.
Arcane Teachings + this guy![]()
Then why couldn't this guy be 2/1? Or even cooler: 2/1 vigilance...
Would be more interesting if had 2 toughness. As it stands, it's basically a glorified deathtouch/crappy Vindicate with a potential for shitty comboes.
The non-land clause is stupid. It wouldn't be "bad" because people would learn not to attack into it when they are at 2 lands or less, and using it as a proactive disruption would mean that you'd waste 2 cards and 3 mana at least to destroy a land, hardly overpowered, even with LD costing 4 those days. Could've made a nice deck there, with Vindicate, Sink Hole, and this. Pew pew pew.
Would activating Pestilence over and over work? Or would the first dmg resolve thus killing him, but you could in response deal another?
I agree on the non-land. Sure, if he were 2 or more toughness then it would too nuts, but WB, 1/1 -- c'mon! I would love to see either a smallpox variant (or of its ilk) or a solid WB land destruction. 3 hybrid mana: destroy two target non-basic lands. That would be hot.
EDIT: He's still pretty sweet.
Then I suggest renaming him "Humphry Dumphry, High Priest of Penitance" and changing him to a 2/1 legend with the stated ability. Heck, even slap vigilance on him. Wizards knew when they made Snapcaster Mage that the card was absolutely amazing. Why couldn't they have pushed this card the same way? I mean, Abrupt Decay and Deathrite Shaman were great. Maybe it's just my (current) disapointment with the set that makes me a bit frustrated. We need something cool for B/W, G/R and W/R (especially the last two). It can't all come in this set, but i hope we at least get one or two kickass cards in one of these combinations. I'm starting to think that if they made Vindicate today, it would have cost 2BW and read: "Destroy target non-land permanent".
Yep, we need as much insane cards as possible...
Can't have more than one legend per color combination due to guild leaders and the absence of guild champions. I'm still waiting for the day when we get the creature version of Chains of Mephistopheles - preferable with Flash and Deathtouch for maximum playability and flexibility - because fuck Brainstorm.
And if Maelstrom Pulse is any indication, Vindicate would still cost, but with non-land clause added. Seriously, the "make LD as unplayable as possible"-stance is annoying.
Sword of Fire and Ice seems good. Not sure he's anything special with it though.
He's free to play with Edgewalker, and some other tribal stuff for clerics and humans that give him toughness.
You can recycle him with Order of Whiteclay.
IIRC, 'dealing damage' is when it's marked on the creature, so it would kill him on the first pop.Would activating Pestilence over and over work? Or would the first dmg resolve thus killing him, but you could in response deal another?
Chains has text that's way too long and is too messy. I'd rather see a creature with "If a card would be put on top of a library from anywhere, exile it instead. If a player would look at cards from the top of his or her library, exile it instead."the creature version of Chains of Mephistopheles - preferable with Flash and Deathtouch for maximum playability and flexibility - because fuck Brainstorm.
Just make a playable version of underworld dreams. Something like:
Bargain of the Underworld BBB
Everytime a player draw a card, he lose 1 life.
At the beginning of each player's end step, that player draw a card.
