I think this is going to come down to Consuming Contract vs Demonic Bargain. I do like Mass Mummification though.

It's this guy from MTG Salvation.

LOL. It "combos" with Vampire Hexmage
I am convinced that WotC is "dumbing" the game because of all the stupid posts they come across on MTG-related forums

If the Salvation vote is any indication, it's going to be duked out between Contract, Necromancy and Eldritch Rites.

While thinking about it, Contract might not be that bad if the third ability is tutor and the enchantment itself isn't overcosted (very unlikely, though).

I like the idea of tutoring for the third choice, and cost will determine how good it actually is. But Eldritch Rites isn't that great, Necromancy on the other hand is a pretty cool card and definitely in the top 4 of of the choices.

Am I the only one that likes Double Down as a Hate card? I mean, there are at least two high-Tier decks that utilise the graveyard extensively (from Reanimator to Shard control, with dashes of Zombies and Tokens). Sure it's nowhere near as interesting as Consuming Contract, but it's definitely something that could be printable in a Graveyard-themed block.

I liked double down, but if it just costs 1-2 mana I was thinking of it more as a kind of loam/dredge engine. Exile 2 breakthroughs, dredge 6, etc. Or probably even better in a loam shell.

Alot of these cards sounds cool, but then when the reality sets in that WoTC would probably make just about all of them cost 6-7 mana I stop caring which wins.

All the idiots who thought "Fixed Necro ver. 23.60.8.b" had a snowball's chance in hell.

Phyrexian Arena hasn't be reprinted in Standard in years and that is not that powerful for a descendent of Necropotence. The closest recent things we've had have been Dark Tutelage, a worse Dark Confidant, and Blood Scrivener, a really worse Dark Confidant. R&D is pretty clearly down on black card drawing.

But yeah, most of these choices are awful. I'm assuming the only ones I actually like (Blood in the Watering Can, Eldritch Rites) won't make it past this round, which will relieve me of having to care. After all, the last YMTC produced Vanish into Memory, which would have been more appropriately named "Vanish from Memory."

I wash my hands in innocence. I created a bastard between Phyrexian Arena and Infernal Contract: upkeep, draw 3, loose half your life

The only one I kind of like is the when an opponent discards X card type do X ability. Seems kind of fun like someone said with Windfall type and Wheel effects. Only if it doesnt cost too much though. I assume it will be 12000 mana and be completely unplayable outside of EDH.

    I submitted this one:

    Substitutiary Locomotion
    Concept: Poltergeists running wild
: Target noncreature, non-Aura permanent becomes a 1/1 black spirit creature until end of turn.
Please stop talking about whether Force of Will is broken or not. It obviously is, and rather than "the glue that holds vintage together" it would be better to call it "the rug under which you hide the filth until there's so much that you can no longer conceal it".

That sounds sweet. Though this seems kind of like all of those green cards that make your lands into 1/1's or 2/2's.

Re: WotC Presents: You Make the Card 4

It's actually a mix of Kormus Bell with Xenic Poltergeist. It's off-color for current color pie standards, but Mark Rosewater and Aaron Forsythe were saying on Twitter that they were looking for cards like Form of the Dragon that are flavorful even if they do things a color wouldn't normally do.

I would have submitted a more conventional card if I had a greater than 0% chance of being selected, however. :-/

Makes me wonder why the general tendency of YMTC is to make them suck. CoW is such a wonderful, popular, non-broken card. Why can't we get more of that?

Forgotten Ancient had a good mana cost until R&D made it suck.

And Vanish into Memory was a complete disaster right of the bat. Designing a card based on an art? And those terrible mana cost choices...

Whatever wins, I predict horrible high mana costs as choices.

@DrJones: Sounds like fun with Jitte, Night of Souls' Betrayal, EPlague, etc.

Re: WotC Presents: You Make the Card 4

I really rather like Revenge of Necromancy. I've seen it compared to Megrim in a "win more" kind of way, but it's really not anything like that at all.

Consider how it works with some of the best discard spells; Thoughtseize is essentially your choice of the best abilities, Inquisition of Kozilek can circumstantially be just as good, and it combos with Cabal Therapy in a supremely cool way. It isn't a full-bodied "engine" per se, like you think of something that powers a combo or draws tons of cards, but it enables a lot of silly shit and makes playing discard less of an exercise in diminishing returns.

There's also the whole "if my opponent is playing anything that makes them discard as a cost, I get to do cool things" aspect, but that's tantamount to a punisher mechanic seeing as how if they have the option they'll probably just discard and trigger whatever matters the least to them (unless they can't pick, in a situation like Mox Diamond or something).

Beyond that, Double Down would be pretty cool but it relies a ton on multiples. I think it's a card which someone thought Dredge would hate to see, but actually its a card that Dredge would love to play.

This all assumes that these things are aggressively costed, which... might even happen. I don't know what the correct cost of any of these spells is, but I'm fairly certain that if either one of those weigh in at over BB then no one will give a shit.

Re: WotC Presents: You Make the Card 4

For starting from over a thousand options, the final 8 are mostly pretty disappointing. Also sad that there's no Necro variant in here at all.

Eldritch Rites and Consuming Contract are the only remotely interesting ones, hope one of them gets it.
For my confessions, they burned me with fire/

Ctrl+F "draw" shows that half the submissions draw cards.

These are as close to Necro as we get these days, I guess.

I submitted Crucible of Legions. Who would've voted for it if it made top 8? (It does exactly what you would expect a card of that name to do)

Did you put a "once per turn" limit on it? Because otherwise it's unprintable. Crucible naturally self-limits to once a turn.

Also I think it was probably a bad idea to submit a variant of a different YMTC card.

What's the combo? Remember you'd still have to pay for the creatures. The best I found was Memnite + Goblin Bombardment, but that makes a 3-card combo and therefore nothing to worry about. I think it would be powerful but safe at either 2BB or BBB.

I really don't like Consuming Contract. Since the draw 2 lose 2 is relatively painless, it's just a big Phyrexian Arena with upside of maybe destroying creatures or whatever blank is. A draw engine that strong with upside would have to cost 5+ for Standard, thus causing my eyes to glaze over in disinterest.
