What do you think of this for a playmat

    I ordered a yard of this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

figure I can make 2 play mats out of it and would be the closest to the old school spell ground mats What do yall think about it.

Can't really see a playmat getting better than this ... but ... "Good luck"

    That is awesome.

My wife said she was going to sew the edges and draw celtic boarders and a design for the deck to go.

Once we get them and have one finished I will post pics, I jsut hate the stupid "mouse pad " type material they use currently and wanted a spellground Suede playmat without the $100 price tag. If they come out really nice I may have to do a whole bunch to match different decks with. The material comes in dozens of colors.

What are the measurements of a normal play mat? I always thought of making my own playmat with like a spindown life counter built in would be cool. (sure some have the numbers you can use, but I want to be different)

Suede would be pretty nice as well. My favorite was when a guy a week or so back forgot his playmat. So he took his notebook and turned it sideways lol.

    14" x 24" is the standard size

I am doing mine as a 36" x 29" so 2 players can use it. This way I get 2 of them per yard of fabric.

Hmm I wonder about a small digital display with life totals on each side like these:

Mouse pad is a bit new school but the spellgrounds used to get chummed up on table scum, pizza sauce etc.. I had a 2 player that we used to play Guardians on all the time (it has a shared disputed territory play area).

Re: What do you think of this for a playmat

How did the suede mat work out op?

Also I was thinking of getting a playmat made where there are scans of cards on the playmat in the locations I would normally play them. For example I would have scans of volcanic islands and underground sea's where i would normally play them so when i draw them in my decks i could just play them on top of the scan. The same for other cards like creatures where i i would normally play creature spells and instants at the very top.

The goal would be just a collage of good cards organized by playing zones. Cards like brainstorm, daze, force of will, duals, COT, intuition, cunning wish, abrupt decay, tarmogoy, emrakul, griselbrand, so on and so forth. Dont necessarily want them to be part of the deck i play but i thought it would be interesting. Am i making any sense?

The way im envisioning it would most likely confuse the opponent about whats in play

I just got the material yesterday but I will only be able to do 2 single player mats since I am going to have to glue it back to back before I sew the seam since it is thinner then I expected. Other then that the material seems like it would work great. i did have one issue when testing the material out and that is if your surface is not perfectly level sleeves like to slide on it when you chuck a card down on it.

I do not think any Judge would allow this for the reason stated in your last line and that it could possible grant you an unfair advantage. I know one Judge asked someone to remove the mat or replace it since he had stuff like don't forget upkeep triggers etc written on it.

Anyone who's seen my playmat has already seen the best playmat.
I think the biggest thing is the deep seeded emotional understanding that the right play is the right play regardless of outcomes. The ability to make a decision 5 straight times, lose 5 times because of it, and still make it the 6th time if it's the right play. - Jon Finkel
