(Accelerated) MUC with Combo finish !

    Hello guys !

I'm trying to build a Transmute Artifact (TA) deck.

I don't have a list but just a core. The first turns are trying to play like this :

    Turn 1
    Island
Fieldmist Borderpost / Mistvein Borderpost (return Island)

    Turn 2
    Island (replay the same Island)
Tap Island and Borderpost to cast Grim Monolith

    Turn 3
City of Traitors / Ancient Tomb
Cast Transmute Artifact (with Island and Borderpost)
    Resolve, sacrifice Borderpost (cmc 3)
Search for Sphinx of the Steel Wind (cmc 8) or Sundering Titan (8)
    Tap Grim Monolith (3 mana) , Sol-Land (2 mana)
    (Borderpost 3cmc + Monolith 3 mana + Sol-Land 2 mana = 8)
You cheated a turn 3 Sphinx of the Steel Wind or Sundering Titan !

Or you can wait turn 4, play Island, and go for Inkwell Leviathan (cmc 9).

The deck should be consistent enough with the Sol-Land duo and Borderpost duo (and even the Grim Monolith and Basalt Monolith duo + Transmute Artifact and Reshape duo)

Note 1 : Transmute Artifact can act as an Entomb on turn 2 and follow next turn with Sol-Land and Argivian Restoration (Turn 3 Inkwell Leviathan) (Mono Blue Reanimator ! lol)

Note 2 : Grim Monolith turn 2 and TA turn 3 for a Batterskull is not bad.

Here the core of the deck :

    Mana :

    Island
    City of Traitors
    Ancient Tomb
    Grim Monolith
    Basalt Monolith (also considered)

    Fieldmist Borderpost (pitch to FOW)
    Mistvein Borderpost (Pitch to FOW)

    Plan A :
Transmute Artifact (pseudo-Tinker in Plan A or pseudo-Entomb in Plan B)
    Reshape (also considered)

    Plan B :
    Argivian Restoration (pseudo-Reanimate)

    Protection :
    Force of Will

    Tool Box :
    Batterskull (5) (hardcastable)
Sphinx of the Steel Wind (8)
    Sundering Titan (8)
    Inkwell Leviathan (9)

I don't know what is the best shell but for now... but all combo is too slow to compete with Reanimator that cheat a Bargain on turn 2 or Show and Tell... So control shell maybe ?

Defend early turn with (cheated and/or hardcasted) Batterskulls, countermagics until you have enough mana to (Tinker) Transmute Artifact or Reanimate a Leviathan or Sphinx.

(Accelerated) MUC with Combo finish ! lol I changed the title the last second lol

Not sure how consistent this would end up being, but it is really cool. Good work dude.

Thank you oarsman ! I just edited to add Transmute Artifact clone's : Reshape to add even more consistency lol

    Edit :

    Turn 1 Island, pass
    Turn 2 Island, Grim Monolith
Turn 3 Sol-Land, Tap Monolith, Sol-land and the 2 Island and cast Reshape (sacrifice Monolith) at 5UU and get Batterskull (cmc5) !

Note : With Transmute Artifact, you would get a cmc 7 target and I don't know what the best cmc 7 target.

Probably want Seat of the Synod, and definitely Chalice of the Void. Possibly Trinket Mage? Cool idea for sure.
EDIT- CmC7 you say? SUNDERING TITAN! Trinisphere is another possibility if you're willing to try to forego Force of Will.

    Thank you HammafistRoob

@Chalice of the Void : It depends if the deck wants Brainstorm or not, I think. For now, I have no idea but preventing Swords to Plowshares and its clone is already and partially covered by Leviathan.

    @Seat of the Synod :

The pro is that it spares Monolith or Borderpost with Reshape, where the cmc or the sacrifice doesn't matter.
The con is that it weakens an already bad mana base (lots or many too many non-basics land for a MUC deck)
Answer : I don't know yet. Sorry, but the deck is new for me too.

@Trinket Mage : It depends of above answers which are not found yet lol

Maybe Sensei's Divining Top in the mix

@Sundering Titan is cmc 8 but yes it is an excellent target ! I forgot about it ! lol I edit the opening post to add it ! Thank you a lot !! EDIT : And later sacrifice Sundering Titan to Transmute Artifact to get........ another Sundering Titan for UU !! LOL

@Trinisphere : it increase TA and Reshape cost too so let's see later.

Ahh yeah Titan is 8, my bad. Some decent 7 drops are

    Memnarch
    Spine of Ish Sah
    Platinum Angel
    Myr Battlesphere

I think you're right about putting this into a control shell. Drop Chalice/3sphere, blow up lands with Titan, profit?

Re: (Accelerated) MUC with Combo finish !

@Trinisphere : Good with TA not with Reshape because TA has no additional cost, only when it resolves, you sacrifice an artifact, be it Trinisphere, but with Reshape, Trinisphere doesn't protect it until it resolve so you'd better sacrifice another artifact with Reshape.

Trinisphere is annoying with the Borderpost, btw... but maybe too good to not play.

@Chalice : same as above against Spell Pierce and Flusterstorm minus its copies lol and the no Brainstorm and no FOW

Chalice, Trinisphere, Titan is a plan ! lol

Thank you for your suggestion but we want cmc 7 target that are bombs and none of them looks like bombs (we both know they are only decent)

    Tezzeret the Seeker maybe ?
    Turn 1
    Island, Borderpost

    Turn 2
    Island
    Monolith

    Turn 3
Tezzeret, untap Monolith and Borderpost with the +1 ability (yes Tezzeret for one blue mana xD)
    cast Trinisphere ?

    Tezzeret is a better Reshape, I think... 3UU for a cmc 4 target vs 3UU + a sacrifice for a cmc 3 target

So now we need a good cmc 4 target too xD

    Please help building a list

Re: (Accelerated) MUC with Combo finish !

This is almost equivalent to the Mono-Red Sneak decks, so I suspect that you may want Saprazzan Skerry as well, for adding UU over Seat of the Synod. In addition, you can tutor for [cards]Lodestone Golem[/card] at 4, in addition to Master Transmuter.

Re: (Accelerated) MUC with Combo finish !

Thank you Darkenslight for your interest

@Saprazzan Skerry : the probleme is that the mana base is really BAD because of the Borderpost which can be dazed, spell pierced (in the draw), FOW-ed or countered by every countermagic :( and if we add Wasteland as a probleme, it might be really really bad lol

    Turn 1 in the draw
    Island
    Borderpost, Island returned
    Dazed in response
    T_T

Now if we have to worry about Wasteland... :(
Note : the sol-lands are played the lastest turn obviously before going "combo", dropping bombs or lock.

@Lodestone Golem : It locks so it is good for the deck lol

@Master Transmute : Excellent alternative to Brainstorm if the deck doesn't play it. I mean if I cannot put back the Leviathan clogged in my hand into my library with Brainstorm, a tutorable one-sided pseudo-Show and Tell is welcome lol

Really I cannot write a list because I need the maths...

If someone can tell me how to do the maths, I will appreciate.

    For the mana base :
I need an Island and a Borderpost in my opening hand
How many Island ? How many Borderpost ? 8 Borderpost I guess.

Turn 2, I need Grim Monolith, ideally. Max number I guess : 4 Monolith

Then, turn 3, I need a Sol-Lands and Transmute Artifact
    How many Sol-Lands ? I don't know how to calculate... :(
    How many transmute Artifact ? Max number I think here : 4 Transmute Artifact + x Reshape/Tezzeret, x=? :(

Next, Batterskull, do I want it as a target or should I plan to hardcast it often ?
    How many Batterskull ?

I need to drop 3 lands on turn 4 because my mana base on board on turn 4 should looks like :
    Turn 1 Borderpost
    Turn 2 Island
    Turn 3 Sol-Land/Island
    Turn 4 Island/Sol-Land

I think it is 24 lands (Borderpost included).

So it is in turn 4 : 2 Island, 1 Borderpost, 1 Sol-Land in the mentionned order.

I'm leaving home right now so I won't be able to reply sorry, I work far from home :( Cya next week...

Re: (Accelerated) MUC with Combo finish !

With a Transmute Artifact, Borderpost is only +2 mana. Grim Monolith is only +3. You need some crazy nut draws to get to 7 and 8 regularly, or you need a lot of mana acceleration.

Great deck idea. Awesome that you came up with it.
Don't have really anything to contribute....
I agree that Chalice and Tezz must be very cool here.
