G/W creature synergy (learner deck/not tribal)

    Hey guys,

I'm trying to build another learner deck for someone whos trying to learn Magic.

Its basically a common/uncommon deck, but has 3 Green Sun's Zenith.

I tried building a "hatebear" deck but all the hate bears I know are at rare (namely Thalia, Teeg, Revoker). The only think I can really think of are Qasali Pridemage and ETB gain life creatures (against faster aggro)

What are some good common/uncommon creatures out there that have a good synergies with each other (outside of tribal). I am hoping of putting a Survival-esque deck pre Vengevine days.

    Thanks in advance.
I am convinced that WotC is "dumbing" the game because of all the stupid posts they come across on MTG-related forums

Re: G/W creature synergy (learner deck/not tribal)

Things like hatebears and "sac this: do something" creatures like Pridemage are generally harder for new players to understand. They guard their life total fiercely and "don't like" sacrificing their creatures. Those kinds of piece losses are generally regarded as the beginnings of a game loss in other games unless you're getting into ridiculous forks and gambits in Chess or Risk or whatever. Most new players -- unless they are far more insightful than most newbs, or are seasoned gamers already -- are going to look at such cards and dislike them because a 2/1 Thalia is not a 3/3 Watchwolf.

Also your beginner would probably fail to realize the consequences of controlling Teeg and then trying to cast GSZ, so while that's probably a noble play in certain situations it also puts them in a position where their own deck tells them they can't play their spells.

Your best bet is probably going to be just going with a bunch of sturdy brick shit-house WG cards that attack a bunch. Maybe introduce one or two keywords like vigilance, lifelink or trample; things that are squarely planted in GW and don't require them to do things like make sure their opponent is paying the right amount of mana for those noncreature spells. I wouldn't worry too much about tribal synergy either, as that's another one of those "CHECK ALL THE THINGS" mechanics which comes very naturally to seasoned players but new-jacks tend to like, miscount their own Elves or miss Kinship triggers or pay too much mana for a spell when a Warchief/Banneret is in play, or whatever tribal thing ends up going in there that passively changes the way spells are cast or damage is calculated.

Failing all that, there's always mono-Kithkin.
