Ah, intressting. Would be nice to hear what your results are, it feels like 4 Strip Mine should punish the unpowered decks more but it might also not (since they can go artifact hate). Does it lead to more Strip victorys? I played some PT96 decks that had 4 Strip Mines and they did sometimes win games by themselfs. It does supply a efficient answer to Mishra's Factory and Library, which sometimes are a problem for the format. We have discused letting Strip Mine be free, so it might still happen.

In actual 1994 there wasn't much differentiating lands at all (e.g. only Blood Moon punished non-basics). So Strip Mine in essence is much like Wasteland x 4 today. I mean in Vintage today why does anyone play actual Island? It's not the fringe Blood Moon they might encounter in 9 rounds ... it's Wasteland. Strip Mine is much like Wasteland a play a lower curve or mana denial deck would play because it didn't intend to go much above 2-3CC. A land destruction deck would play it for obvious purposes, to run his opponent into Black Vise or to hard lock the game with Nether Void. I like the idea of 94/95 but I think playing under the exact B&R from a particular time period is a much more interesting way to introduce new players to 'old school'.
Working backwards from 1996. Strip Mine didn't get restricted until 1998 when Wasteland was well in play and it became apparent that 8 Strip Mines was a bit much, even with Black Vise restricted.
Try playing Timetwister / Wheel / Regrowth recursion with 4 x Fastbond ... fuck a strip mine.

Seeing Orcish Oriflamme on that list just puts a smile on my face. Wish I had been able to experience the origins of the game - the first time people realized that Orcish Oriflamme was a powerhouse.
The irony is that Orcish Oriflamme was restricted because of the misprint on the alpha version (where it mistakenly cost 1R instead of 3R), but today R&D would cost that effect at 1R anyway.
Maybe one day I can afford proper digital camera. Untill that day..
Power and vault is obv printed proxy.. the rest is true bling :) I'm not the biggest fan of Vitnage but I might run something like that at our local tournament this Sunday. Not really sure on Tezzeret and counterspell configuration, pretty sure I'd like some Mental missteps main and perhaps even Snapcaster.
The one I laughed at was rukh egg. Rukh egg, better than all in '94.
Yeah strip mine was basically wasteland back then. Being able to use it on basics was a small bonus then as you generally used it on a dual land, maze, library, factory, or workshop anyways due to those lands having better utility than a basic.
