There was a tournament in our lgs, after which we were standing in the rain and chatting. From the six of us, no one really loved what happened to the prices and we were bitching. It's so nice to feel normal...
Also: dear WotC, show me those ppl that favor your no-reprint policy.
I agree with the oddity of not reprinting the fetches in MM, but that lead me to a different belief. I think it was a conscious decision to not reprint them because I THINK they dislike the idea of manabases being "whatever."
I can't remember where, but I think I read somewhere that Wizards hates when manabases can be just a pile of lands like it was in the previous standard format.
IF they do reprint the fetches, I agree it will be a grab for money money then anything.
Modern masters only went up to alara block. Whether that was a conscious decision that they made so they wouldn't have to print fetches or not, I have no idea. I'm just pointing out facts
Im not sure if they officially said this, but I think I remember hearing/reading that they did this so that they could make a modern masters 2 in two years, and not have to wait like five years for enough sets to come out to make it so weren't just re-reprinting cards in Modern masters 1.
If they let the community wait for the ZEN fetches for another two years, it might have been bad idea to sell them now. Nevermind, I still quit.
Also, unless they'll be reprinted in some bigger edition, MMA2 won't change much about price, see Goyfs, DCs, etc.
I still think WotC should be heroes and make them available in MMA2, then reprint ONS fetches in 2015 base edition and five years from now reprint ZEN fetches in another base/first set of block. Look, it's not like shock's reprint shocked the market, and if they want Modern to be affordable, the format needs fetches. (And it would be nice to support friendly colors - and T1,5 - a little bit by the reprint of ONS ones).
Man can dream.
IMO there should be a Modern Masters every year. They would need to tone it down from the last release since you can't blow your load and reprint every relevant Modern card every year but it would give Modern the release valve it needs price wise. It would also steadily lower prices that are out of control instead of plummeting them instantly like some reprints do. Sure Goyf and Confidant at mythic didn't lower the price year one, but they might drop a little more next time and then a little more the time after that until they are at a reasonable level.

Don't disrespect my dojo dude...
Sweep the leg!
Yep, I think this is reasonable assumption, check the prices of painlands, cards that have been reprinted so many times. WotC could try something a bit more courageous, I'm not saying they should change the fetches into painlands2.0 and completely ruin their price, but otoh, I still believe that as long as mana is the main principle of game, they should make it available for the players, their customers.
I think I'm OK with them doing a MM every year if they do it with the print run of the first release. The prices of staples might stabilize and keep pace with the growing number Magic players every year, which shows no signs of abating. If you're (WOTC) going to support Modern you might as well actually fucking support it instead of just giving players lip-service.
"We are goblinkind, heirs to the mountain empires of chieftains past. Rest is death to us, and arson is our call to war."
So how about that Strategic Planning in Commander 2013?
Hill Giant means business.
Glad I sold mine for $75 each two gencons ago?
Considering that the majority of multicolored goodness is fueled by these lands, I don't doubt it. There's definitely something to be said for the sheer amount of shuffling one can do without even trying to troll. Let alone being a douche and building something like 4-color Rebels with fetchlands, tutors, ramp spells, other durdles.
I still can't understand why at least some of the cards can't make it into base sets, Chronicles-like editions, Commander/FTV or even new blocks. Strategic Planning was reprinted without armageddon happening, so why not make the cards more available for the PLAYERS? After all, this is a game, am I right? So wouldn't be nice if the players could play it for (quite) cheap, while the collectors might collect and pet their rare original printings? I'm not sure what kind of health does it bring to (at least Eternal) Magic, when a part of the players' base is out of competition just because 15+ years ago they were too young/poor or uninterested in game.
What's the trouble with ONS fechlands reprint? Are they too powerful for post-RTR Standard? Even if the answer is "yes", isn't the two years of Standard less important then the whole eternity of Modern. And if the ONS fetches are unhealthy for Modern, then I need to ask why ZEN ones are fine...
Same logic applies to any other cards. I'm not sure if Naruto and/or Yu-Gi-Oh policy of reprinting every expensive staple (until its price drops to few bucks) is fine or not, mainly because I don't play the games and I don't even know which one uses this policy. (I think Naruto it is, but I might be wrong.) But I find it really elegant - collectors still got their "Limited Edition Alpha" Pikachus, Umuzakis, Silver-Fanged Wyverns or w/e, while the players may enjoy the game without bleeding their wallets into it.
Yugioh is the one with the "reprint things until they're worthless" thing.
I THey underprint cards a lot, so they can sell a lot more packs to players looking for 100 dollar cards. I personally hate the policy,as I feel like it cotributes to a the game's toxicity (Stealing, fighting, scamming, etc), as people are more concerned about money than they are about the game.
Emptying the Warrens: So YOU don't have to!
Simply put, WOTC has no interest in actively giving a shit about legacy. They will print cards for the format every once in awhile just to give SOME incentive for us to buy packs and what not, but the support for the format is decreased and they would rather push endless amounts of EDH Dog Shit on us.
If I understand you well, then we're on the same boat. One thing I ALWAYS hated in past 18 years is how Magic promotes several kinds of bad behaviour. I've seen people prey on their best friends so many times it's not even possible to count. While they'd be willing to jump in a fire for their friend, they'll steal his Serra Angel, because Majik.
Ok, but is this approach reasonable?
Look, to release Chronicles 2.0 doesn't cost WotC anything else then paper and print, it's not like they need to acquire new art(ists) and think about new mechanics, and such. It would bring so much nostalgia and it could be a pretty funny format to draft, kind of a MMA again. Even without RL cards, this has a potential to be very funny, welcome and balanced edition with good sales. And again, making this once in few years won't affect Standard's popularity, so there's hardly a chance that this kills their cash cow.
Make it a very limited set (both in number of cards, the power cap, and the print numbers) and then with a "CHRONICLES 2015, aka Eternal Masters" you've got a recipe for disas... I meant a business success.
I think it would be cool if they decided to repint all the Cards from the revised set, but nothing else.
this would let alot more ppl get into legacy. and it would hurt the hoarders among us (myself included) the least, since revised duals are "cheap" and would drop too much.
especially if the reprints were not foil, or something
Im not saying that I agree with their plan, I am just saying that that is the reason that they don't care to reprint legacy staples in modern sets. Force of Will probably would see very little play in Standard, and a bit in Modern, but people think because it is "free" it is overpowered.
