    [SCD] Mana Short

    Mana Short

Oracle Text: Tap all lands target player controls and empty his or her mana pool.

I'm curious, with the advent over the last six months or so of American delver and Bug delver pushing traditional Canadian thresh out of the format, do you guys think mana short could see comeback in some of these "slower" tempo decks as a pseudo time-walk? I kind of had the realization this morning playing some commander between classes that EOT mana short the player with counterspells, then flash in teferi mage to lock out interaction when I tried to combo off that mana short is REALLY good when you just need to buy a free turn. Building on this, why doesn't it/hasn't it seen play in some of the slower mono blue combo decks (like solidarity/omnitell/spiral tide) where it can serve as a wish target for safer combo time?

My guess is that three mana is quite a lot. You perhaps won't be able to cast your cantrips because you are holding back three mana. Also it won't really buy you turn if your opponent has some board presentation.

If you're a slow blue combo deck, playing Flusterstorm to beat counterspells seems considerably better. If you're in other colors, then Red Elemental Blast, Duress, Thoughtseize, Orim's Chant, Silence, and even Autumn's Veil are better. One mana versus three, and most of these cards have more utility than Mana Short.

Generally, I thought, people played Mana Short during the opponent's upkeep rather than EOT.

Paying 3 mana and a card to deny your opponent 3 mana doesn't seem so great, TBH.

Mana Short in response to a Miracle trigger seems good.

    "Upkeep...Mana Short."
"Ok. Brainstorm in response. Draw, play a land. Cast Delver. Attack with Tarmo."

You are going to spend three mana and a card on the opponents upkeep? Who just got Time Walked?
"Anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job."
"Politicians are like diapers. They should be changed often and for the same reason."
"Governing is too important to be left to people as silly as politicians."
"Politicians were mostly people who'd had too little morals and ethics to stay lawyers."

my thought was more along the lines of as an answer to decks like miracles--the "in response to miracle trigger" scenario was at the top of my mind as a reason to board it in, not so much as an answer to other tempo strategies.

Stifle seems about 100x better at doing that as it costs 1.
