Fine. I watched it a few times now. He moves a card (it appears he is unclumping two groves). Locates wasteland. Then closely inspects the rest of the order of his deck. Then he pulls out the wasteland. Does a quick two shuffles and presents. His opponent does not realize that his opponents deck is not random, and only does a simple cut. I understand that after a lot of magic, especially EOT, it's easy to shortcut, but why the card movement and inspection?
How do you know? To me it clearly looked like he stuck out the Wasteland as it was the card he initinally wanted to get, then goes through the rest of the deck to find out whether there's something he might have missed while thinking about the play; I do that a lot actually, especially when GSZ'ing. The two short shotgun shuffles afterwards are definitely not enough but it doesn't really worry me, maybe also because I know Niklas on a personal level though.
On another note, I finished 17th in the Vintage main event, so at least the weekend wasn't a total blowout for me, tournamentwise. Because I really really had a great time with the entire crew! Putting two guys in the Top8 and just enjoying ourselves in Annecy, I really love this tournament
I also had a longer talk with the main organizer of the BoM about costs, prizes and the future of the BoM. I will talk about it on Everday Eternal soon.
The seven cardinal sins of Legacy:
1. Discuss the unbanning ofLand TaxEarthcraft.
2. Argue that banning Force of Will would make the format healthier.
3. Play Brainstorm without Fetchlands.
4. Stifle Standstill.
5. Think that Gaea's Blessing will make you Solidarity-proof.
6. Pass priority after playing Infernal Tutor.
7. Fail to playtest against Nourishing Lich (coZ iT wIlL gEt U!).
Oh my god. Magic is such a tough game. I am happy if I am not doing many mistakes. Inspecting the order of my deck, remembering it and use it for my benefit, while shuffling nearly every turn with this deck, drinking way too much alcohol this weekend and sleeping 4-5 hours every night, that would be really impressive :D
Julian is right. I am looking through my deck most of my time, just to check if there is a target left that could be slightly better, than the one I was supposed to get. Doing only two short shuffles is probably not enough. You are right. Damn you, alcohol! :D
I also watched the video a couple of times now. At the beginning, I believe he clearly sees that two Groves are next to each other, so he decides do unclunk them. Afterwards, he pulls out a Wasteland and then, as you said, looks through to find if there is a play that he is missing, which has nothing to do with checking the order. He briefly stops at a couple of lands, which he doesn't unclunk (!!), and then proceeds to shuffle.
I don't see anything shady here, maybe just a little bit lazyness ;)
However, I also don't like people going through their deck and pulling apart cards of the same name/type/whatever, because that's definitely not a random theck that you present afterwards. I believe the proper cause of action, if you think that your deck is clunked or whatever is to shuffle properly afterwards. Then there's no guarantee that you parted those two Groves, but you did the best you could to randomize your deck.
I agree with your thoughts on this phenomenon. Separating similar cards that are next to each other when searching is pointless and a waste of the limited time we have to finish a match. The magic deck has to be sufficiently randomized. The action of sufficiently randomizing a deck makes multiple copies of a card being next to each other or the act of separating the cards completely moot.
I watched again. I don't think it was fair of me to say he was inspecting the order of his deck. I'm perfectly willing to accept that Kronberger inadequately shuffled by accident. With so much shuffling occurring, often times simultaneously and during a time crunch, it's easy for these things to occur.
Ultimately though, rearranging the order of your deck during a search action prior to shuffling is a bad habit and one that can and should invoke scrutiny.

I watched most of the legacy and vintage coverage and a few games of modern. I don't remember this particular incident and did not watch the replay. Was simply commenting on the illogical and impractical habit that some magic players have.

Pro Tip for future Annecy BoMs:
The Asian place was awesome. Ifinite wok, sushi and desserts.
Didnt close at 10 pm, and part of the clientele looked like awesome thugs from early 90s Hongkong gangstermovies.
Watching some Vintage videos at lunch started with the first one.
"So the MUD deck doesn't play moxes?"
"What is Crucible for (when MUD deck has 2 wastelands in play)?"
Guy plays Crucible for 3 with his own Thorn out. His opponent then pays 1 for Thorn to force it ... acknowledging that he knows thorn is out but not calling a judge and thus cheating because he wanted a spell to force. all on camera.
I think the biggest thing is the deep seeded emotional understanding that the right play is the right play regardless of outcomes. The ability to make a decision 5 straight times, lose 5 times because of it, and still make it the 6th time if it's the right play. - Jon Finkel

Because:
The Bazaar of Moxen Shop is located in Annecy. So while they are looking for new locations all around France, Annecy is part of the tradition of the European Eternal Community.
Here's a snippet of what I will have to say on the next episode of Everday Eternal: they are thinking about an additonal stop in Strasburg.

That movie was fucking fantastic. It is a gorgeous city, and looking at the lake on the 1.5 mile hike to the non air conditioned box it takes place in is pleasant but I'd rather it be in Barcelona or some other awesome non France city.
