Obviously you can build up storm with Fluster, but that's rarely cost efficient and nearly impossible on the draw.
Swan Song doesn't have this problem, and is the best answer to the "deathrite problem". But then you run into another common play which is; T1- Probe into Cabal Therapy (mostly against Ant). Swan Song is basically dead here and the only way to use it effectively is to either counter the Probe (denying them a draw) or to just let everything resolve :/

What are your opinions on which 1-mana counters to use (if you're not running LoS in the SB) and why?

Swan song opens you to another problem - their clock which becomes faster. Best of those three cards you mentioned is flusterstorm (imo after playtests). Divert is sweet but after side I see a lot of duresses so it's a dead card. Pierce does the same or worse than flusterstorm most of the time. If your worry are only sorcery spells you might want to test 2-3 envelop in the side.

I agree that Fluster is the best option, but still not great.
As a combo deck you always want your counterspells to be both proactive and reactive, and Envelop doesn't really fit the bill. It works really well as a SB option for non-combo decks, but that's really it.
With deathrite being the most popular T1 play, Brainstorm is basically the best card against discard atm. Just seems like the printing of deathrire has made every 1-mana counterspell (that used to be good) alot worse.

There are not many options for us really. Better would be only counterspell IF it cost cmc 1 not 2 :) Swan song helps and hurts at the same time so we must stay with the best option that is. To me it's fluster now and it won't change for some time I suppose. About the envelop - it was a suggestion made after reading your post (ANT, discard decks). It still counters most of the threats post bord and is the best for the things you mentioned. It also helps agains the elfs that can race us easily. I never said it's not narrow :)

The problem with this deck is that blue limits your options to taking care of permanent based hate. Thalia is a huge beating against any non-creature based Show deck. There's nothing you really can do about it honestly, I've tried several different SB strategies to make it work but we still struggle very hard against simple one Thalia, taxing artifacts, Gaddock Teeg, Chalice, even Meddling Mage in UWx decks. Sure, Toxic Deluge / Massacre is good, but even by opening up your deck to another color, you're risking a little bit of a chance that you'll be "blown out" by mana-denial strategies. But splashing for Black may be the only way to go. Not sure how this deck should go forward in the current meta, it may be best to take a break unfortunately.

So I split top 8 of a 50+ man tourney at channel fireball this past weekend. I have been splashing black for thoughtsieze and lim duls vault. The minor black splash doesnt open you up too badly to wasteland and allows sweepers out of the board (massacre deluge) and slaughter pact early game. I noticed a decrease in meddling mages in recent u/w blade lists and decided to break the deck out. First round I placed against sneak/ show and he went first and tried to push a T2 SnT. didnt go too well for him as I had omni EtI and 2 cunning wishes to get trickbind when he tried to griselbrand on my turn in response to EtI. Game two was also pretty quick with thoughtsieze being huge to clear my path to SnT. Rd2 I lost to 4 color deathblade when I mulled to 5 games 2 and 3 and never drew combo pieces (4 cantrips in game 2!). Oh well that is combo. Rd3 was against burn. He won the die role and game 1 and then lost when I found leyline of sanctity after board. Rd4 I played affinity but he was too slow with too little disruption and it ended quickly in 2. Rd5 I played against rug delver. I had plenty of time to lay lands and blast through his daze +spell pierce game 1. Game 2 I resolved defense grid and won the next turn. ID rd 6 and a nice split for Top 8. Lim dul's vault was super awesome all day. I did get an underground wasted a few times but it never cost me a game and can usually be fetched exactly when you need the black so color screw never came up also.

    Those two things I agree.

You can almost always avoid being wastelanded till the turn you play black spell. Usually it's the combo turn so wasteland doesn't matter then

Edit: Luudes are you playing with some sweepers in side?

    Re: [Deck] MonoU OmniTell

I played 1 slaughter pact, 1 massacre and 1 toxic deluge as kill out of the board. This seemed like a pretty good configuration. I'll try it again this weekend (yeah legacy in the bay area is doing very well, 3 stores with monthly weekend 1K's means lots of practice). I was thinking about trying to fit in another massacre but I will stick with this for now. And did I mention how awesome lim dul's vault is...

Could I ask, the Trickbind just in the maindeck for use with Firemane's Foresight (the 2CMC slot), isn't it? What is your reasoning for choosing Trickbind over, say, Daze, Predict, or Echoing Truth, for example? Do you find Trickbind has more utility, and if so, how? I couldn't find a second Trickbind the other day so I just replaced the maindeck one with a Predict, and I found it excellent when I drew it because I knew every time from the other cantrips I had been casting what I had on the top of my library. When in doubt, you can just name Island, being that it's the most numerous card in your deck.I EoT'd it, and untapped and drew my ninth card, winning the subsequent counter war over my Show and Tell for the win against my Miracles opponent with seven cards in hand and a CB in play. I know it hits stuff like ORing, Jitte, Batterskull, SFM, Delver, etc. but is that better than almost certainly being able to draw two cards off Predict?

I would be interested in your thoughts, if you have the time.

    a) You need less cards to combo safely against stuff like O-Ring, Angel of Dispair, V-Clique etc. (SnT+ Omni+ Wish instead of SnT+ Omni+ Wish + Intuition/EtI)
    b) It's an out to Counterbalance @3
    c) There is always an juicy target or the possibility to shuffle it away if not needed.

How does it help vs a counterbalance @3?

Aha. I think then it should read: Trickbind + Wipeaway combine to form an out to CB@3

ia it worth it to remove defence grids...in exchange for the research and development and firemind foresight outs?

D.grid helps a lot against ur burns, dreadnoughts and rugs. If your meta lacks them then you can think about replacing it. Trickbind is the best 2 cmc if you're running f.foresight in side.

Edit. D.grid also helps agains sneak shows and our mirrors - here where split second shines :)

That doesn't work. When you cast Wipe Away, Counterbalance will trigger, but you can't respond with Trickbind, since Wipe Away has split second and still on the stack.

Absolutely true. My mistake. For whatever reason I thought it would also work with WipeAway like it was working with Rushing River

I periodically play a Cryptic Command, Echoing Truth, or Rushing River to make that line more reasonable. I play Trickbind main to support FF, in particular, the Omni + Wish use-case where I Wish->FF for Intuition + Trickbind to counter an ETB ability. Having access to 5 copies of Trickbind in certain matchups (Miracles and Show and Tell mirrors) go a long way towards sealing up otherwise reasonable matchups.

If you think Defense Grid is good against other Show and Tell decks, try casting Thoughtseize, Duress, or Cabal Therapy against them. Playing 4 Flusterstorm and 4 Discard in my 75 has given me a consistently strong matchup against other combo decks. I can't think of a matchup I'd rather have Defense Grid against compared to Thoughtseize/Duress (well, maybe Solidarity, but I'm not convinced that 4 Flusterstorm, 4 Wish, 4 discard Ub Omni actually is going to lose the stack war against the Fluster/Snapcaster versions of Solidarity (although I'll admit I've never actually tested this)).

Well d.grid was fine for me till now but I should try the ub version to compare. Another thing - how is your list doing against bug/shardless bug without the fows? How many games have you played this matchup? I wonder if fowless omni has any troubles with this one

How is the old version of omnishow in the current metagame?, the version with griselbrand, emrakul, burning wish and seizes in maindeck?

    Regards!

Why would replacing a 2 for 1 (FoW) with a 1 for 1 (Flusterstorm) negatively affect the matchup? Flusterstorm is actually a reasonable thing to do against Hymns, Thoughtseizes, and Inquisitions. You still have access to 7 countermagic maindeck, and the only place Flusterstorm tends to be bad is when you are tightly constricted on mana (which doesn't happen vs Shardless).
