I can easily believe you beating Bug Delver. Since they never pass "Mother-test" G1, with only 2 mana removals. Meddling Mage also seems awesome G1.
But yeah. Silence does nothing. If you would want more 1 mana answers to removal, you could just play Apostole's Blessings, but Roob's list already has Mothers & Meddling Mages.
What do you think about this list?

So against the blue decks I saw...I won every round...:/ apparently I need to work on my Lands matchup...lol. Really missed Needle for Ithe.
Cheers mate!
Damn, so close Rood! I definitely know the feeling after going 6-3 in Paris. Next time, next time! At least it brings some hope to Standstill lovers, that UR Landstill made the top8. I still prefer more removal and more 1-drops, than what you are running, so I'll continue pushing Grim Lavamancers and ignoring this silly Treasure Cruise. How were those cruises btw? And did you ever feel the lack of secondary ways to cheat Dreadnoughts into play? Also I definitely agree with you that you should have played more EE from the board, that card is still fantastic. Same goes for the needle. I wouldn't feel too bad about the loss to the Lands though, as that's generally one of the hardest matchups anyway. I would be more happy about the wins against Maverick and BUG, as those can also be problematic. Anyway, cheers and good luck for future tournaments! I have the Finnish national legacy champs coming in less than a month and I'm not 100% sure yet, but well, who am I kidding, I'll probably be playing my German baby, so report coming. I'm also collecting some playtesting data when ever I get to playtest (around 50 games played across 6-10 different matchups).
Treasure Cruise was insane Yan...I think not playing it at this point might very well be incorrect...only problem is I don't really think Lavamancer/Cruise in the same deck is a good idea you gotta pick which side of the fence you want to be on there. EE was so good for me...I will def go up to 2 at my next tournament. Mainboard Red Blast should be pretty standard now at least as a 2x. Hard counterspells/removal for Delver/Cruise are insane.
Cruise is definitely insane, I've played it in other decks and you would have be to doing something wrong, if you didn't notice how good it is. My problem with it here comes more from the way the deck is build. Taking advantage of 1-drops like delver and lavamancer, and curving into Standstill. So maybe the question was more trying to be, "is it necessary to have all that drawing power?" I prefer lavamancer into standstill myself for sure. I'm totally okay with cruise, I just feel like adding it makes me then want to just cut standstills, lavamancers, factories and well, then we start to look just like a UR Delver deck with a little twist. And I don't really like that thought. But anyway, I'm oldschool and very comfortable with the amount of draw the deck had already. All the threats in the deck are so fragile, so I like having few more of them. Same goes for the answers. Drawing in to more drawing just doesn't seem like a winning plan to me. (in some matchups it definitely is)
Still, I'm pretty sure that at this point, most of the cards that you could reasonably put in your deck, are all great choices and there is a lot of choice. It's mostly about what everyone is comfortable with. But with this trend of playing red blast main makes me think that you probably don't want to go with Dreadnoughts and leave Trickbinds home. That just seems like asking for trouble. I kind of liked the landstill list from NJ, my only problem with it is how slowly it wins. At somepoint I probably want to work on something similar though, as it is pretty much like cutting Delvers and Dreadnoughts and adding Snapcasters.
I think something like this could be worth testing and tuning:
4 Delver of Secrets
4 Phyrexian Dreadnought
3 Tombstalker
4 Brainstorm
4 Ponder
4 Treasure Cruise
3 Force of Will
4 Daze
2 Spell Pierce
4 Stifle
3 Vision Charm
3 Disfigure
4 Wasteland
1 Verdant Catacombs
3 Flooded Strand
4 Polluted Delta
4 Underground Sea
1 Island
1 Swamp
SB:
1 Torpor Orb
1 Cursed Totem
2 Annul
3 Hydroblast
3 Duress
1 Dismember
1 Dread of Night
1 Grafdigger's Cage
1 Nihil Spellbomb
1 Force of Will
I have had a lot of luck with this deck in various configurations and would be happy to respond to any questions.
Today I am become death. The destroyer of worlds. -Oppenheimer
I really want to play an old school Dreadstill list. Here is what I have been working on.
3 Dreadnought
2 vendillion clique
3 Counterbalance
3 Top
3 Standstill
2 Jace
4 Force
4 Brainstorm
4 Stifle
4 Lightning Bolt
2 spell snare
2 pyro blast
2 treasure cruise
1 trickbind
3 wasteland
4 Volcanic
4 Mishra's Factory
4 Scalding Tarn
3 Polluted Delta
3 Island
Sb
2 Pyroclasm
2 hydro blast
3 spell pierce
2 EE
2 relic of progrnitus
2 dismember
2 blood moon
Is something like this viable in the current meta or is it better to play the tempo version?
Ur is still the right place to be with this archetype. Figuring out the right mix of Standstill and Treasure Cruise is the issue. The things that made Ur weaker are in decline right now. Abrupt Decay is at it's lowest penetration in the meta in a year.
I took a Stiflenought list to last week's FNM and was surprised at how well it did given the really crappy brew I was running. I was trying a zero Force of Will build with just the 4 Dazes and 2 Red Blasts and still managed to win 4 out of 9 games before I dropped. Death and Taxes was a terrible matchup with no Forces in the build and him on the play game 1.
I'm going to try this next week and guessing it will be much better:
4 Delver of Secrets
3 Phyrexian Dreadnought
4 Brainstorm
2 Ponder
3 Standstill
2 Treasure Cruise
4 Daze
4 Force of Will
2 Red Elemental Blast
4 Stifle
1 Echoing Truth (no choice, my meta is full of Chalice of the Void and Trinisphere)
4 Lightning Bolt
2 Fire//Ice
3 Wasteland
4 Mishra's Factory
2 Scalding Tarn
2 Mistry Rainforest
2 Polluted Delta
2 Flooded Strand
3 Volcanic Island
3 Island
SB
2 Grafdigger's Cage
2 Pithing Needle
3 Pyroclasm
2 Engineered Explosives
2 Blue Elemental Blast
1 Red Elemental Blast
1 Flusterstorm
1 Echoing Truth
1 Surgical Extraction
Maindeck EE could have also been option since it's pretty great answer even to multiple chalice of voids, not so much trinisphere though.
Finnish Legacy Champs over today, me going 4-3 (Conceding one round to friend who still had slim chance to top8, where I had none). Yan going 5-2 into top16. But I guess we get maybe some reports after some dust settles.
I myself was again very contempt with deck, though matchup lotteries got me Aggro Loam & Jund Loam which were pretty horrid matchups, also RG Lands, that I managed to beat this time, only to scoop for him. MonoB Pox was also on list, but that I beat pretty fast 2-0.
Cheers
Jani
To the regular posters in this thread: Should we discuss this here, or is there a DreadStalker thread we both overlooked?
About the list:
1. 3x Stalker AND 4x Cruise? That seems waay too much even with 3x Vision Charm to fuel the grave.
2. Second remark: I would advise at least +1 black fetch. This setup seems prone to mana/colourscrew.
3. Disfigure is narrow even for a removal spell. Against quite a few decks it'll be completely dead. I would advise you move all removal spells to the sideboard and try a main deck with only the wincons and protection.
4. I don't like the sideboard at all, but maybe that's just me.
Considering the above I would go for something like this:
4 Delver of Secrets
4 Phyrexian Dreadnought
4 Tombstalker /12
4 Brainstorm
4 Ponder
4 Stifle
4 Vision Charm
4 Force of Will.
4 Daze
3 Thoughtseize (proactive, takes care of stuff like Abrupt Decay)
2 Inquisition of Kozilek /29
4 Underground Sea
1 Island
1 Swamp
4 Polluted Delta
3 Flooded Strand
2 Verdant Catacombs
4 Wasteland /19
Sideboard:
3 Vendilion Clique (in case you have to drop either Stalker or Nought)
4 Disfigure
2 Toxic Deluge
3 Spell Pierce
2 Surgical Extraction
1 Grafdigger's Cage /15
I used to run thoughtseize main deck but to be honest, they were very lackluster. I always ended up losing to a critter that I couldn't remove from the board in time to rebuild, with Thoughtseize stuck in my hand with no real reason to cast it. I have enough countermagic to play against fast combo and defend my Dreadnought (Vision Charm does a great job of protecting a resolved dreadnought btw incase anyone missed it - i.e. abrupt decay.) The difigures are basically just to kill the first and maybe second body they drop on us to keep momentum. Tombstalker felt awkward running 4, maybe a 3/1 split with snapcaster or Clique?? Torpor Orb is nifty tech that I bring in a lot so that i can use stifles for other stuff and vision charm to fill my yard. Awkward with Clique though. I've thought about screwing around with a singleton Unearth if Abrupt Decay does become more common again. Darkblast could be sweet in this deck. I've been loving treasure cruise in this deck, as I can cast it very easily and it has rebuilt my combo a few times and won me games. Honestly its decks like Maverick that scare me most. Lots of creatures to get in my way and race me.
Today I am become death. The destroyer of worlds. -Oppenheimer
But you have no problem at all running 3x Stalker + 4x Treasure Cruise?
And if you overstretch Vision Charm that much, there's little chance being able to use it to protect the Nought.
I always liked discard in the Dreadnought decks I played, but you can keep those out.
My list -1 Stalker, -1 V.Charm, -5 Discard, +3 Disfigure, +3 Spell Pierce +1 ? should be fine as well.

Good job guys! In regards to Fools post...I think your list is pretty tight dude. Fire/Ice is some serious oldschool tech I like it.
I'm beginning to think some mix of Ponders/Cruise splits might be strong. I was pretty impressed with Probes, though.
I agree that TS/Cruise in the same deck is a Non-Bo. It's the same reason I refuse to play Lavamancer and Cruise in the same list.
We don't want to rely too heavily on our GY...
How about Asthereal's list and switch it back to red with the following changes:
Young Pyromancer - Tombstalker
Lightning Bolt - Vision Charm
Treasure Cruise - thoughtseize
Chain lightning/Forked Bolt - inqusiton of kozilek
Also more basics and less duals.
I'm going to test out a list featuring Young Pyromancer at my next tournament and let you guys know how it plays out for me. I've wanted the 3rd kill factor behind
Delver and Factory...I think TNN or Pyromancer are our best options there.
@scrum
CB/Top could be good in a meta that didn't have a lot of Jund and BUG. It'd probably be very good in a meta with a lot of Burn and Storm type action. I've often wondered if using CB/Top as a transformation would be doable. It just takes so much space in the SB and the matchups it's really good against are matchups that we kind of manage naturally anyway with the tempo version.
Anybody thought about using a couple of Torpor Orb in the SB for use against Elves, SFM-based lists, D&T, MUD, etc? It'd give us freebie Dreadnoughts when we had it in and some lists are really dependent on their EtB effects to win. For us all we care about is cutting off the effects on our blowout win-con.
