Anyone who didn't watch at jack's last stream should absolutely check game 2 of the second match against esper .... it just shows the reason why this deck is a blast to play.
Yeah that's probably a good idea. Anyone else in for Friday? Otherwise Sunday might be better![]()

One thing you all might do is meet up after each round. Specially if you did meet up Friday, you'd recognize one another and it can be a time to talk out your last match and discuss. Having that relief at the end of a round can help relax you and keep your focus as you slog through more rounds.
We have a winner
So we meet up Friday to recognize one another and saturday we meet at tablexyz between rounds to stay frosty. Seems legit
Good luck to all of you guys!
MM2015 didn't have it and buyout followed. It's also pretty popular in modern right now.
I have 7-8 blood moons and gained over 150 dollars over what I payed for mine. Perhaps I need to sell and buy later. It's crazy to see a rare, reprinted so many times, and still be 60!
To all the mono red players out there. Does the standard list play a lot of burn main? What's the burn of choice, magma jet? In a constant effort to screw with my list, I'm considering playing a few of these main in my shortcake list. The scrye just seem so relevant against any opponent. Anyone else doing this now? If so, how is it?
I'm not playing burn MD, but in the sideboard I have 2 Firebolt & 2 Sudden Shocks to deal with Mentors, Young Pyro & other nuisances. I also play 1 or 2 Sulfur elementals in the side just to be sure :)
To me, Magma Jet is the burn of choice and I maindeck 4 copies. I play no tops so they also help to smoothen the draws. During the UR Delver era I briefly switched to Sudden Shock instead but during the time I never managed to win anything as counterburn was a terrible matchup.
I continue to see this deck as a Blood Moon deck before anything else so my monored build's focus is on that instead of durdling with top. Magma Jet is there to give at least some card selection while also supporting the moon plan by killling Shamans and other problem creatures that slip under the moon/bridge.
Some of my friends sell records,
some of my friends sell drugs.
In the beginning I played with 4 Lightning Bolt, but since Death and Taxes are a danish thing (Regularly, there's 2+ players at every tournament), I switched to Sudden Shock and been happy ever since...
Yes, sometimes I would want the extra point of damage the lightning bolt could give, but the upside is split second.... It gives a lot more maneuverability, at least that's what I feel :D
I managed to get into Top 8 with my R/W build last saturday
Round 1 against Goblins:
M1: I know that he’s playing Goblins so I mulligan away a hand with a first turn bloodmoon into a second turn kill with first turn grindstonde + second turn painter
M2: He starts with a first turn lackey that is followed by many more goblins. I can REB two of his creatures and survive long enough to go into the combo.
Round 2 against Stoneblade:
M1: I start with a first turn blood moon that gets Forced. He plays a fetchland and sais go. I draw Magus of the moon and play it, he fetches a tundra and swords it.
After that I’m trying to get back into the game since my hand only has left some more lands and a REB but finally he kills me with three deathrites.
M2. He thoughtsizes away a blood moon from my opening hand but I also have a magus that I play second turn to make him concede instantly ;)
M3. Can’t remember too much of this game, but I win quite fast by assembling the combo.
Round 3 against TES:
I know that my opponent plays storm combo.
M1: I get killed in turn 3 without being able to do much against it. He has to play Ad Nauseam and finally finds his combo pieces after going down to 1 life. Wish I had a gut shot at hand ;)
M2: I have a second turn Ethersworn Canonist that stalls him out long enough. I can kill him at the end of my turn one second before he’s able to kill me
M3. I can tutor into a Canonist, but he’s too fast for me. I already had painter in play and grindstone at hand but I would have needed a sol land to win this game.
Round 4 against Omni Show:
M1: I don’t realize that he’s playing Omni Show and assemble a quick combo which of course doesn’t kill him due to Emrakul in his deck. After that I recruit into Jaya Ballard and can luckily win with dumb beatdown after he’s able to resolve a omnipotence without having any great spells to play.
M2 & M3: Can’t remember these matches any more. I think I was able to play some Bridges and Ethersworns but still being to slow to win with beatdown
Round 5: Agains Tin Fins
Combo Again….
M1: I see an exhume during he’s shuffling his deck and expect reanimator. He’s able to reanimate Griselbrand very fast and draw 21 cards but doesn’t find his
combo so I can kill him with my creatures.
M2. He plays first turn Thoughtsize and takes away my RIP. Second turn its followed by ritual + entomb + reanimate + griselbrand which kills me quick with beatdown
M3: I can play a fast bridge. He reanimates Griselbrand and does everything to find his combo pieces but I can win eventually with my own combo.
TOP8:
I luckily got into top 8 beeing on place 8 with 3-2 after 5 rounds :
Round 1: Against Omni Show (from Round 4)
M1: I can win with an Ethersword canonist after he makes a mistake and puts together a wrong pile.
M2. I made a big mistake NOT to tutor for a Canonist early and choose a painter instead. I can assembly my combo quick but totally forgot that I’m not able to kill him without having a RIP in play as well. Get comboed out after a few more turns
M3: I have an early bridge but he’s able to combo me out anyways.
I made 7th place after having to fight four combo matchups and got a Flooded Stand as price.
I really like the R/W more than mono red but I have to modify my sideboard a bit more.
Jaya + Koth were way to slow, but I guess they are still the right options for other matchups.
I wished that my RIPs would have been Tormods Crypts instead because I often needed free graveyard hate. I’ll probably add 4 leylines of sanctity to my sideboard as well.
What do you guys think of this board:
3 Firebolt
1 Pyroclasm
1 red elemental blast
1 enlightened tutor
1 sphere of law
1 Tormod's Crypt
1 Rest in Peace
1 trinisphere
1 thorn of amethyst
1 Engineered Explosives
1 Duergar hedge-mage
2 Koth of the Hammer
Mainly thinking that if I want to spike a tournament then the more-prevalent-in-paper burn auto loss just seems unacceptable. I'm rationalizing it by looking at ee as a pseudo clasm that can make up for it.

What a brainstorm do? Draw card and activate on draw effects fix hand, removing woods

Since the modern and legacy IQs have moved to the same day, I haven't really seen much burn at the couple scg events I've been to lately, as I assume budget players have gravitated towards the format where Burn is actually one of the best decks. Just some food for thought.
