Well, sanctum of ugin looks like it could fit into tron.
... and a merfolk ally with abilities that probably aren't relevant to either tribe. That really seems like it should be a wizard or shaman.A 4 drop 5/3 with haste and a drawback is a Rare? The fuq?
To be fair, the 'drawback' does provide resistance to sorcery speed stuff.
An Eldrazi with Dash! :D
So, I'm not the only one noticing that the powerlevel of most rares in this set is more like that of (bad) uncommons?
Fathom Seer, Brood Butcher, Prism Array and Nissa's Renewal seem to be some extreme examples. Poor kids that open boosters with them as the rare card!
It's also funny that the Lifelink Ally (Lantern Scout) is rare while the Double Strike Ally (Resolute Blademaster) is uncommon.
Straight up. I feel like the expedition land thing is a gimmick to get people buying boxes of this garbage... even if 2-3 nutty mythics, good enough for eternal, end up making the set, I'd much rather buy singles - most of this is unplayable trash, even in standard/modern.
TPDMC
As much as I like to bash the garbage that appears in each set, I usually bash the stuff because it's so run of the mill and uninspired. Being "not as good as other cards" shouldn't be considered a problem. Remember that rarity does not dictate powerlevel. That thinking is what landed us in our current mess in the first place. You want better rares? You want them to print another Griselbrand or Lodestone Golem? Cards that are so trumped up in power just because a higher rarity is clearly a relevant limiting factor in competitive play? Power should have influence on rarity, but not the other way around. I long for the days when complexity was a driving factor of rarity, yet every time something like Dust Stalker pops up you bastards shoot it down because it's not good enough to be a rare. For fuck's sake.
Be mad at the Eldrazi. Be mad at the promos. Be mad at the story. Be mad at the reprints. But don't be mad at cards that try their hardest.
Dunno. Drop an Eye of Ugin and you can cast him for. That should be fun.
I kinda like the idea of Eye of Ugin with Urborg. Eye does not actually reduce cost by two, but one - unless Urborg is on the table.
EDIT: also, I think there are a few very interesting cards here. Endless One, with the counters is both interesting and handy. The Sanctum of Ugin is also interesting. Real possibilities.
"Anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job."
"Politicians are like diapers. They should be changed often and for the same reason."
"Governing is too important to be left to people as silly as politicians."
"Politicians were mostly people who'd had too little morals and ethics to stay lawyers."
I see Dust Stalker and think "Man, if this thing had been an ally, the return-to-hand thing would have had insane synergy with the ally tribe.".
Now that would be a fun interaction. Red's "hit and run"-mechanic combined with ally triggers when they enter the battlefield.
For a moment I read that new counter to be a 1(u) "Counter target spell with a CMC 4 or under." Devoid. Thought that was sweet. Would have been interesting in Modern. Alas. Misreading spoilers is the saddest thing once you catch up on what they really say.

Common spell land cycle. Not very interesting for legacy but I like the black one as a card at least. I'll probably eventually play it in some horrible modern loam deck.
The black one will be one of those lands like Bojuka Bog that ends up being a casual staple. It's actually really good for a common land. I'll probably pick up a foil or two for EDH purposes.
RE: Dust Stalker: The card is clearly not intended for Legacy. It's also clearly not something you want at uncommon for Limited - having multiples of this could lead to some pretty brutal burst damage in the late game. This kind of card also shows up at rare these days - see Archwing Dragon from AVR, for example.
Green land doesn't seem half bad either.
