Hi all, went to a local event, 4 rounds - went 2-2-0. I haven't played in a long time so I certainly made a few mistakes, and I started to lose focus as the rounds went on.

1x Pendelhaven
1x Wasteland
4x Tropical Island

4x Windswept Heath

1x Divert
1x Mizzium Skin
R1 - Elves - Win (1-0):
G1 (1-0): Probe and see a slow hand, but with NO. A couple of turns later I swing (forget if it was inkmoth or blighted...) and invigorate + berserk FTW.
G2 (1-1): We both have slower hands, eventually he gets a Regal Force, refills and finds a Behemoth.
G3 (2-1): Probe shows me GSZ, NO, Nettle, Visionary, 2 forest and a heath. T1 cage feels so dirty. He manages to get a small glimpse chain going but inkmoth, noble and a Become Immense get there.
R2 - Onmishow - Win (2-0):
note: Playing against a good friend here, the guy I play the most mtg with.
G1 (1-0): I think he mulled, but when I probed he had an Emrakul, Omniscience, DTT, and Cunning wish and a brainstrom. He had 1 land in play. I slowly chip away before finishing with a kicked vines.
G2 (1-1): My hand is a bit land heavy, but that means I won't draw any lands right? NOPE. I get flooded while he quickly and easily assembles show, omni, emmy.
G3 (2-1): I have a decent hand, get a couple nobles and a blighted out, pinging 3 a turn. He probes me and sees I have nothing, but on my draw step I draw a spell pierce. He EoT DTTs, which I have the pierce for. Saved my bacon. The blighted takes me home.
R3 - Punishing Jund - Lose (2-1):
G1 (0-1): He gets deathrite and an early Jitte, and punishing fire. Punishing is the word of the match.
G2 (0-2): He gets deathrite and engineered plague, then a second engineered plague. Krosan grip makes my blighted agents useful again. He gets 2 deathrites in play, I drop and pop engineered explosives for 1. Then he lands a jitte, much to my dismay. Double brainstorm finds the second krosan, hey this might work! But then this is where I make a huge mistake, or many huge mistakes maybe. He was looking at graveyards to figure out how big a goyf would be and put a "goyf die" down to remind himself. I (I wasn't on drugs I swear. Just tired...) think he plays a goyf. There is no goyf on the table yet I play as if there is. He has 2 Dark Confidants in play. This leads me to the pritical mistake, thinking the game is over next turn (2X bob and a 6/7 goyf, me at 10), I attack with blinkmoth and invig and kick vinves for 9 infect to show how close I was. Then I almost concede, and he keeps asking why. So I say play it out. He flips a punishing fire with the bobs, and THEN PLAYS THE GOYF. FML. If I hadn't been dumb I would have attacked for 1 poison, then saved the pump for the next turn. Ahh well.
R4 - Food Chain - Lose (2-2):
G1 (1-0): I probe to see a FoW, BS, Deathrite, and Decay, and some lands. I get the job done with an invig.
G2 (1-1): I probe and see decay, strix, fow, food chain, misty. I manage to get a few poison in with an inkmoth but he gains superiority with strix and misty and beats me down.
G3 (1-2): His T1 deathrite, 2x strix and a timely misdirection of my spell piere keep me from doing much. Then he goes INFINI mana, hooded hydra, vela, infini damage. GG.
I love the deck but need more practice!!! Would greatly appreciate thoughts on the list I used.
All star SB cards for me were krosan grips. Pithing Needles and Cages were good when I had them, Engineered explosives really shined the one time I got it, but didnt see or use much else.
I'm dubious about the EE, as it seems best set on 1 or 2, which is what all of our creatures are on. Maybe there's a bit of confirmation bias going on here with your sweet DRS value play? I can't see this being optimal over several games, as you would run into too many situations where popping EE would be shooting yourself in the foot.
How has mizzium worked out for you? I used to play one in TC meta when electrickery was more popular, but haven't since as there are fewer cards in the meta that mass wipe 1 toughness creatures.
Agreed on EE, if I want to answer artifacts we have Krosan Grip / Nature's Claim, and if you want to beat creatures I think the white splash is probably best.
EE was mostly there for tokens. But also woulda helped against elves, stop them from combing out too quickly.
Didn't get a chance to see mizzium but it would have been an unkicked vines. Though the omnishow had an electrickery SB.
Hey, I was just thinking about the following question: if DTT were to be banned, would that be better or worse for us? DTT makes Hymn and Liliana much worse, which seems pretty good for us since those cards seem good against us. However, Grixis Delver is rampant now because of DTT, and that match-up seems unfavorable. I have very limited experience, so forgive me if this is a stupid question. What do you guys think?
No worries, it's a fine question. A Dig Through Time ban would help us solely on the grounds that we're not a deck that relies too heavily on the card. In regards to match-ups and the most popular decks pre-Dig, Infect has never had much of a problem against Lilliana, as she's more often than not far too slow to matter. Hymn is strong, but between soft permission and Brainstorm to hide important pieces, I doubt it'll be something we have to worry much about.
In regards to the Grixis matchup, it's been about as difficult for me as old RUG delver (difficult, but not impossible.) Post Dig-ban, our delver matchup mostly depends on which variant people gravitate towards. The old UWR shells were the most problematic, as several copies of bolt/StP coupled with maindeck Jitte made it very difficult to mount any sort of offense past the early game.
I agree. Also, no DTT would probably mean fewer maindeck Pyroblast on average, which would be good news for Blighted Agent.
I would love to see DTT go, so we see a reduction of power in omni decks and fewer Grixis decks as mentioned. The red delver variants in form of RUG, grixis and UWR are the matchups I worry about the most.
We might also see a rise in use of become immense from 1 to 2 probably, as we know our deck can handle 2 delve spells and it only gets easier with Bimmense (no UU and only delve 5). At least that is my plan.
On another note; does anyone know if it is possible to make a poll in a thread?
I would love to see peoples opinions on the amount of lands they use (19-20?). Ive tried both but cant make out what is the best (with a semi-wasteland meta)
Before anyone goes too crazy, remember, Dig was at most a 1 of in Infect. This ban is ultimately going to make the deck better because it means less Grixis. Regardless of how you feel about DTT and whether it should be legal or not, Infect is better off as a deck without it.
Just got into Legacy 3-4 months ago, so I've just been lurking, but...
With Dig being the only UU spell that we were running, is going down to 3 Tropical Islands, keeping the single Forest, and maindecking Savannah viable?
I wouldn't mind playing the white splash without having to take up a SB slot with a land.
I recently switched out my basic forest for a Savannah but I havent' had the chance to play it much. I suspect it'll be mostly fine, wastelands are generally reserved for inkmoths and I could care less if they waste my Savannah game 1 anyways. Even game 2 and 3, you're not dead to rights without the Savannah as long as you have a Noble Hierarch handy and available.
Blood moon is absolutely a problem going this route and maybe we'll see more of that now that DTT has been banned, so that's something to watch out for.
I really miss the option 19 lands, 8 fetch, no wasteland (2 pendelhaven).
Not a ton of Blood Moon in my meta, but I'm heading to the GP (I live close enough to Tacoma that it seems like it's worth going for the experience, even with my limited reps with this deck), so I want to be as resilient as I can to whatever I might get matched up with. Think I'll give it a whirl over the next couple of weeks. Thanks!
Definitely try it out and see what you like. Always remember this one thing above all else when playing this deck: They are afraid of you killing them out of nowhere. Try to have outs, and play as conservatively as you can afford, but many times being aggressive and laying it on the table is all it takes.
With Grixis on it's way out, does UG Infect regain strength again?
