If you're gonna go for Juzam Djinn style 4cc 5/5 you may as well go for Deadbridge Goliath since it is zenithable and doesn't have a downside.
Doesn't die to doom blade? yes, db would be better. I just ran a search on gatherer and put down the notable ones.
Creatures that dodge decay, bolt and karakas are necessary. the few that dodge swords as well are few and far between, at least the playable ones.(sigarda)
maybe 5 cmc could be: 1 sigarda, 1 tusk, 1 BSA and put another BSA&tusk in the sb for miracles/eldrazi/etc.
Shinfo: I am trying a sorin markov in the sb. Fk you, im an adult and that card is sweet.

I'm new to this deck and love the overall aesthetics of the cards, and play style, some of the best games of magic I've played in the last few days. Playing the pure junk list based on some lists in the last few pages.
Could anyone summarize briefly for me the decks good and bad matchups and strengths and weaknesses?
Does anyone ever get Meren up and running? In the games I've played I have never had a desire to GSZ for her and if I draw her at a point where I can cast her, it seems like she is just a vanilla creature. maybe I just have to play more games.
My best friend plays MUD a lot, so going bigger overall to deal with the eldrazi is something I also want here, because Sigarda is just too underwhelming against big dude decks. Going up to 3 paths seems solid, and I'm also running Glissa in my sideboard. Baneslayer seems awesome, I need to pick one up, but I've definitely been searching for maybe a 6cmc creature, even if just in the side.
Is running the one Taiga pretty much always better than not, for Slaughter Games?
Any info or tips from anyone would be greatly appreciated!
Has anyone ever tried Dragonlord Dromoka? Sunnable, hoses counterspells and other control tricks. gains us life.
Bad matchups are ANT, Belcher style decks and miracles when they draw nutty. Everything else is great. Resolving vet triggers are of the utmost and knowing how to play cabal therapy is an art.
Meren is super strong when you aren't facing down a karakas. She doesn't really require set up but you wont be gsz'ing for her if your gy is empty.
If you are running games, you should have the taiga. I have never played games without taiga, so I do not know but I imagine it is necessary.
Play what you enjoy and mold the deck to fit your liking. This deck is beautiful because you can make it the way you want it.
Karakas and Swords are whores. Good against anything not Miracles or DnT
Phyrexian Crusaders and obliterators, bruh.

Polukranos, World Eater?
Zenithable, 5/5, grows by itself, built-in removal. Sucks against Karakas. I actually played it over Rhino (yes, I'm that insane) in a Junk Pod build of mine because I was tired of losing to Gurmag Anglers :P

I think Deadbridge Goliath is a great idea. It's a cheap body that can eat a Reality Smasher
and can be a late game threat with its Scavenge.
Also, instead of Meren of Clan Nel Toth, we could run Gleancrawler as a non-legendary creature, lol.
Or how about Wolfir Silverheart. This card turn Veteran Explorer into a Smasher blocker. It bring 12 p/t to the board for 5 mana.
Why the fuck would we want to run 4-drops that trade 1-on-1 with Reality Smashers and don't have trample to get past an opposing 1/1..?
Seriously, if that card is such a pain and you face it so often just run a Glissa in your SB and be done with it. She doesn't trade, she just destroys. Repeatedly, if your opponent is stupid enough. And she's cheaper than all that's being mentioned here too, saving you a much needed turn.
Or, you know, run a full set of PtE and pitch a land card whenever you cast it on a Smasher. Or that dead AD you're holding in your hand.
@Deadinthestreet: If a junk build runs a 6-drop, it usually is Dromoka. Meren usually gets active vs. decks that go long themselves. When she does and goes unanswered, she pulls you so far ahead you close the game in a couple of turns.
As for tips: Be creative. Whatever problem you face, odds are you have an out. It just might be a bit convoluted, but it's there none the less. Take the 4-drop to trade with Smasher for example - you don't need one, just take a Siege Rhino and fetch an Arbor next to it. Problem solved and you've caused some lifeloss along the way. Also, allow your life total to be a resource. You can lose at least 19 of it without any problem whatsoever (ergo you shouldn't give a fuck about getting hit in the face for 5/9 if you can stabilize afterwards).
But that's just me.
And you respond like clockwork :-)
Wolfir does not trade 1-1. Worst case it trades a Veteran Explorer for Smasher. Itself would be 8/8 and coupled with Rhino... another 8/9 trample. It gives both an attacker and a blocker.
@those who play with BSA:
Do you board her in against miracles? I do, just to have one more win condition.
Just found this on MtgTop8: http://mtgtop8.com/event?e=11557&d=265762
Scapewish with 4 Grove and 3 Punishing Fire, 64 card maindeck, running very low on B sources (I guess you can PFire to kill Veteran without needing it). Looks.. interesting.
He probably runs 5 or 6...
Playing this Sunday. What do you guys think of this list?
4 Veteran Explorer
1 Sakura-Tribe Elder
1 Nissa, Vastwood Seer
1 Wood Elves
1 Eternal Witness
1 Huntmaster of the Fells
2 Thragtusk
4 Burning Wish
4 Cabal Therapy
4 Green Sun's Zenith
3 Sensei's Divining Top
3 Pernicious Deed
2 Abrupt Decay
2 Painful Truths
2 Scapeshift
1 Slaughter Games
4 Taiga
4 Badlands
1 Blood Crypt
2 Mountain
1 Swamp
3 Forest
2 Bayou
4 Verdant Catacombs
1 Wooded Foothills
2 Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle
1 Flex Slot - probably a removal spell (maybe a maindeck Deluge). Could be Primeval Titan I guess but he didn't feel impressive without better utility lands. It always worries me that if I make Primeval and get two or so triggers, I get to throw three or so bolts at my opponent but I don't have many Mountains left in my deck afterwards which makes ending the game with Scapeshift pretty difficult.
Sideboard:
3 Surgical Extraction
2 Pithing Needle
2 Thoughtseize
1 Massacre
1 Pyroclasm
1 Innocent Blood
1 Maelstrom Pulse
1 Scapeshift
1 Slaughter Games
2 Flex Slot - might be a third decay if it isn't maindeck. Other options are a third Needle, Diabolic Edicts, fourth Surgical, or a second Slaughter Games to side in.
I ended up keeping the Sakura-Tribe Elder and swapping the third Bayou for a forest to support him, since he's so handy as a blocker / shuffle / anti-dredge even without the targets, and adding a third Forest helps Nissa as well.
