Tusk Up
I just got home from Columbus and I ended up running your 75 Rock. I had a weird tournament, sadly so.
(1-0) Round 1: Win 2-1 over Goblins
(1-1) Round 2: Lose 1-2 vs Infect (against a friend from back home...the bad luck of being paired round 2)
(2-1) Round 3: Win 2-1 vs Sneak and Show (Breach Sideboard)
(3-1) Round 4: Win 2-0 vs RW Painter
(3-2) Round 5: Lose 1-2 vs Eldrazi
(3-3) Round 6: Lose 0-2 vs Aluren
(4-3) Round 7: Win 2-0 vs Tendrils Belcher (I was so confused when belcher only hit me for 8 because he hit a Dryad Arbor)
(4-4) Round 8: Lose 0-2 vs Eldrazi
I dropped after my 4th loss in Round 8. The first time I even SAW Miracles was next to me in Round 8. Just my luck.
Deck felt good though, Ensnaring Bridge helped quite a bit...and actually stalled Eldrazi in game 3 in Round 5, but I was stuck with a Titan in hand that I couldn't cast and when I drew another it came down to drawing an untapped land the turn after to be able to cast one of them to turn off the 2/2 attackers (and also stabilise) but Cloudpost was not the right land.
The World Breaker I'm not sure I totally understand, I understand that it can hit a land in addition to artifact/enchantment but I'm not sure how often I care about lands and for the most part I feel like it'd probably be better as another Rec Sage or Krosan Grip since they're cheaper. But I haven't even hit it in any of the games I did side it in for so I'm likely not seeing it's value - can you explain a bit Rock, how it's been useful for you over say another Rec Sage or the 4th Grip?
Has anyone tried running a burning wish build to help out some consistency problems? The sorcery SB could greatly help out with a ton of hefty cards that do work against us. Just brainstorming right now but something to this sort of build.
4x Burning wish
3x show and tell
4x brainstorm
3x expedition map
3x sensei's diving top
3x pithing needle
2x crop rotation
4x prime time
1x emrakul
1x kozilek
1x ulamog
2x kozileks return
1x candelabra
1x Chandra, flamercaller (just wanna try for fun)
26 land
SB where it counts
1x life from the loam (can get us back in the game, a ton of wasteland decks out right now)
1x scapeshift (go from no posts to all the posts or gain crazy life, just an idea.....)
1x overmaster, make sure out spell get pushed through
1x green sun zenith
1x strong hold gambit (great early show and tell helpful against lands, storm and reanimator to put in a cheaper creature)
1x show and tell.... obvisously
1x Some red sweeper not sure just what yet, pyroclasm, rough/tumble etc...
1x meltdown
1x revert silence
3x flusterstrum
3x moment's peace/ensnaring bridge
The fundamental plan of this deck isn't to cast Show and Tell. Show and Tell is Plan B or even Plan C. Splashing an additional color is possible but pretty greedy, and I wouldn't want to be playing Burning Wish and then passing the turn. A lot of the cards in that wish board look like fun-ofs. Stronghold Gambit isn't really any cheaper than Show and Tell if you have to wish for it, assuming your plan is to Wish on Turn 2 in those matchups. Wasteland is plenty beatable with traditional lists, and I think Crucible of Worlds would be superior to Life from the Loam if you really felt the need for additional defense in that area.
Sooo where are the GP deck lists and insights? Don't be shy we won't be angry if you didn't make the top 8...
On a side note, i'm still having good results with the tombs list on line. I've changed the board a little playing 2x empirion and dropped kozilek. Kozilek just isn't that good with SnT and it's usually to slow for burn / storm / other combo like charbelcher and cannot be cast under blood moon so he's out for now. Though i wouldn't run the list without ulamog, he's just too important to drop. i've also changed the sideboard a little and i'm currently running 3x MM and 2x submerge. now i feel almost favorite in the infect match up post boardhave been beating it quite consistently with this set up. 3x MM also helps immensely with the eldrazi menace.
Hi, in day 2 i started very badly after very nice and dramatic game against grixis delver when i started lead third game i just made horrible mistake with titan searching for two lands i was too carry about of my life total situation when was for both top deck mode and against me like pyromancer and 10 tokens with gurmag on 9 lifes and three locuses i found chasm a and another fucking glimmerpost instead of eye of ugin(to find wincon) so after i didn't draw any good option to do something so i simply submitted that game to my oppon. and after that i lost my concetration for other matchups and lose again .. so sadly finnished when i spend lot of time testing, trials and reading sources but now i feel shame for myself but anyway two days playing lot of nice games and next time i try to be better;)

2 Ugin ,the Spirit Dragon
....................................................
I was very happy with Echoing Truth to side for one offs cards like null rod winter orbs or different unexpected permanents or couple of copies like two tapped sensei's to draw two cards in response, i don't want side to many cards for any match except combos but its most universal card what i like. i'm gonna to try more cards what still move/search your deck like impulses, Condescent and maybe predict i leave ponders because is too many chalice decks right now..but i didn't meet any one these two days lot of bugs controls, landstill, grixis pyromancers, one grixis pyromancer control with blood moons and almost all combos(lost agains infect still with hide tide worst matchup).. also still missing some creature in side i really like Tireles Tracker but i don't know for what for matchup could be good and Titania i was so afraid of Eldrazis and Bugs almost changed one relic for Titania she has also good potential for this matchups .. now i will rest from magic maybe i'll join to Bazzar in strasbourg

Finished GP Cicada Swarm 5-3-1, loosing to Delver (again!) in the final round of day 1 with a blindflip delver double wasteland nutdraw. Apparently grixis delver drew with infect in an earlier round (I'm still not sure how that's possible).
I will post my notes later this week. Here is a puzzle for you:
You cast a turn 2 thorn of amethyst against sneak and show. On turn 4 you play an uncounterable thoughtknot seer. Sneak and show reveals the followings cards:
1 Ponder
1 Brainstorm
1 Fetchland
1 Force of Will
1 Grislebrand
1 Blood Moon
You have an expedition map in play as well, so you can easily get a forest to get out of the bloodmoon while you start clobbering with thoughtknot. What card would you take?
It was a pleasure playing you. You're deck is absolutely stunning by the way. :-D
Sorry that it ended in a draw. But now we can say we held up an ENTIRE GP waiting for us to finish.
I don't know if there's technically a "right" answer to this, but I probably take the Griselbrand. He has no enablers, and he has access to a dig and shuffle effect regardless, so I'd probably knock out the only card in his hand that could actually change the board state and lean on the clock from Thought-Knot to get me there.
Also, I want to apologize to you specifically. I had no idea you were going or else I'd have stopped by and at least said hey. I've met into_play before so I knew he was there, but I had no idea you were. I didn't mean to not introduce myself!
Yes, you probably need Candelabra if you're running a Cloudpost deck.
I plan to play in eternal extravganza this weekend and cannot decide on which list is best for the meta, from past experiences I plan to see these decks the most of
miracles
lands
storm
grixis/delver variants
So which would be the optimal build so defeat at least 3/4 decks there? Or at least recommendations for each match up?
Honestly Rock Lee's latest U/G list felt really good. Gives you game against a lot of decks. You're still going to be a bit of a dog against storm regardless, but the 3 Flusterstorms + 2 Swan Songs in addition to graveyard hate to interrupt a Past in Flames play might do some work.
Also from tons of testing ive found that ive nevr really wanted ulamog, ive never searched for him or had a situation where he shined. Kozilek the great distortion has won a ton of games by holding my opponents spells off and refueling my hand to seal up the game.
Here are my notes from GP Cicada Swarm playing Gw 12Post. Final record was 5-3-1 loosing in round 9 to my arch nemesis magic card (delver). It was the weirdest legacy tournament, as I also played 2 mirror matches.
Round 1 Bye W 2-0
Round 2 Sneak and Show. L 1-2. Game 3, u counterable TKS. See cantrips, grislebrand bloodmoon force. Take grislebrand, he draws well. I spin top into 31 mana worth of spells.
Round 3. UG mirror math match.
My opponent was just starting out, since he was playing breeding pools and no candelabras. He boarded in 3 Karn Liberated, which is nothing short of terrifying. Win 2-1 with seconds left on the clock.
Round 4. Lands. Win 2-1.
Round 5. Ross Merriam on storm. Loss 0-2
Lost game 1 quickly. Game 2 I mulligan to 6 with gaddock teeg, TkSeer and mana to cast both. I play gaddock teeg on turn 2 using double fetches and then the following sequence happens: lotus petal, lotus petal, chain of vapor petal one, sac island, copy chain on petal 2, sac underground copy chain on teeg, replay lotus, ritual tendrils me for exactly 18. :-/
Round 6. Shardless bant stoneblade, play conservative...resolve ugin. Win 2-1.
Round 7. UG 12post draw with into_play. Draw 1-1-1
Round 8. Nicshift. Hide behind my chasm, getcha! Warping wail on scapeshift one game, crop rotation against a crumble to dust game 2.
Round 9. Play against grixis delver in the draw bracket. Get nut drawed by delver...double wastelands shut me out the turn before I can resolve primeval titan. Somehow Grixis delver drew with infect?
Next stop...EE4!
Storm and grixis are skill matchups. Lands is a bye, miracles is favorable.
If you are worried about storm over waste recursion, go 3/2 faerie macabre/surgical
I'd go griselbrand.
Curious to your Aluren and eldrazi losses. Details?
World Breaker is in the 4th Grip slot as an uncounterable grip with feet. Being devoid and reach is a bonus.
I skipped a couple steps...
It was petal, petal, chain of vapor, petal, petal, dark ritual, dark ritual, cabal ritual into tendrils. Storm count = 9, leaving him with 0 spells in hand and 0 permanents in play. It was nothing short of remarkable.
I did choose Grislebrand as well. I cracked my expedition map and when I spun my top, I saw emrakul, ulamog and a primeval titan. Ack!
Another week and nobody tried my list.
I'm still winning slightly more than 2/3 of my matches on xmage with this.
This is my latest version:
2 Windswept Heath
2 Verdant Catacombs
1 Wooded Foothills
3 Forest
1 Savannah
1 Bayou
1 Bojuka Bog
1 Eye of Ugin
1 Sea Gate Wreckage
1 Thespian's Stage
1 Dark Depths
1 The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale
1 Glacial Chasm
1 Karakas
1 Maze of Ith
1 Wasteland
1 Vesuva
4 Cloudpost
4 Glimmerpost
1 Dryad Arbor
1 Deathrite Shaman
1 Veteran Explorer
2 Knight of the Reliquary
1 Tireless Tracker
1 Oracle of Mul Daya
1 Titania, Protector of Argoth
1 The Gitrog Monster
1 Primeval Titan
1 Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger
1 Emrakul, the Aeons Torn
3 Mox Diamond
3 Crop Rotation
3 Sensei's Divining Top
2 Engineered Explosives
4 Green Sun's Zenith
2 Warping Wail
2 Crucible of Worlds
1 Ugin, the Spirit Dragon
Sideboard:
1 Reclamation Sage
2 Warping Wail
2 Surgical Extraction
1 Krosan Grip
1 Crop Rotation
1 Ensnaring Bridge
1 Trinisphere
1 Gaddock Teeg
1 Engineered Plague
3 Leyline of Sanctity
1 Toxic Deluge
Minor changes:
1. I moved the Engineered Explosives into the maindeck, and i think that's the right move. Cut my 2nd Oracle and my 2nd Tracker. While it's sometimes great to have more of these in play, it's usually not necessary to win a game.
2. Added 2x Surgical to the board. Even more graveyard hate, might just be necessary against the large number of graveyard decks im facing.
3. Cut one Bridge in the board for one Trinisphere. Don't know if that's good, but it should help against combo and Delver, that's pretty much all i want. For know i will keep one of both cards, as you might have noticed i like 1-ofs.
4. Cut the Horizon Canopy (the utility just never mattered), added a Sea Gate Wreckage. Not sure about that - the cut is definitely right, and i tested Sea Gate before and really like it, but i might need another Fetch or Fetchable instead. For now i'm greedy, but that needs more testing.
Overall i'm still really happy with this deck. It's a completely different approach than other 12-Post decks, but it has all the tools it needs and usually enough ways to find them. I think it doesn't have the weaknesses other non-blue 12-Post decks often have against aggressive decks and combo decks. For example i'm 15-9 against Storm, 10-4 against Burn and 10-3 against Belcher.
What the deck really needs is input and testing from other players.
I may give it a shot if/when I start streaming again. There are some concepts in there that I don't like - I hate the Depths/Stage combo - but overall it's definitely interesting. My schedule is always messed up but if I end up playing it, I'll definitely give you some feedback!
Yes, you probably need Candelabra if you're running a Cloudpost deck.
