Thread: [Deck] MonoU OmniTell

I've actually wanted a second Noxious Revival. It's a blow out vs opposing Surgical Extractions, and I play vs lots of discard locally.

    Re: [Deck] MonoU OmniTell

    Hey there folks,

After some months playing Colorless Eldrazi with diminishing success (from top 2 split in Catalan Legacy League in March to 1-5 in Catalan Legacy League in June), yesterday I brought U/B Omni-Tell to a small tournament (14 people) here in Barcelona. I've ended 3rd, making 3-1 in rounds. The list I've played is very similar to sillysam71's, except I prefer Spell Pierce over Daze and 3rd Emrakul over Top (I'm not sold on Top, and 3rd Emrakul makes easier winning some matches like DnT or MUD/Eldrazi/Random Stompy):

    2 Tomb
    5 Island
    1 Swamp
    2 USea
    4 Polluted
    1 Flooded
    1 Misty
    2 Tarn
    2 Boseiju

    3 Emrakul
    4 Omni
    4 CWish
    4 S&T

    4 FoW
    2 Pierce
    4 TSeize

    4 Bst
    4 Ponder
    4 Preordain
    3 LDV

    SB:

    1 EExplosives
    1 Massacre
    1 Deluge
    1 Firemind's Foresight
    1 RtA
    1 Eladamri's Call
    1 Rebuild
    1 Echoing Truth
    1 Wipe Away
    1 Slaughter Pact
    1 Pact of Negation
    1 Fluster
    1 Noxious
    1 Trickbind
    1 Ravenous Trap

    Here's a mini-report of the tournament:

Round 1, Manuel with ANT, win 2-1
He wins the dice roll and chooses to start. He opens with a mulligan, I keep my seven (I usually never mulligan with this deck, except if I have no lands). He puts me (wrongly) on Eldrazi, so when he Probes me he is surprised His hand is not especially fast, but neither is mine. Eventually I Thoughtseize his hand (he's again surprised, given that he thought I was on monoU) and rip some cantrip from there, leaving him with 2xRitual 2xPetal. Next turn, he topdecks Infernal Tutor. Oh well.
    I sideboard +1 Fluster +1 EE +1 Trickbind, -2 Boseiju -1 Preordain
Second match he mulligans again to 6 to a slow hand. I Thoughtseize some cantrip from his hand and he tries to combo off just to take my counters away. LDV founds me the Show and Tell I was missing and I win from there. 3rd match he Probes me just to see my Fow+Trickbind. A 2nd Fow joins the first next turn, and again, he tries to combo off to wipe away some counter from me. Next turn he is hellbent and I can win easily. I was lucky, his hands were mediocre at best and he doesn't hit any Cabal Therapy in the entire round.

Round 2, Diego with Grixis Delver, win 2-0
I win the dice roll, so I start. My opponent also puts me on Eldrazi, so he's also surprised First match, after I Pierce a Stifle he plays on my Fetchland, I manage to win Thoughtseizing his FoW and comboing him while I was at 3 life (luckily my LDV showed me Emrakul in the first top 5).
    I sideboard +1 Toxic +1 Fluster, -1 Emrakul -1 Preordain
For the second match I have S&T, Cunning and LDV in my opening hand but no protection, but I decide to combo as soon as possible. I LDV for Omni at EoT of his 2nd turn, and I play 3rd turn S&T, to which Diego responses extracting my LDVs from the graveyard and library. S&T resolves and I deploy Omniscience (he doesn't put anything), so I go for the Cunning into FF into Brainstorm+Cunning, play Brainstorm into Brainstorm into Brainstorm searching for some high CMC card which I can't found, so I Cunning into Eladamri's Call into Emrakul. I play the Flying Spaghetti Monster, get my extra turn, attack and my opponent concedes (he was at 16 life and had 6 permanents anyway).

Round 3, Marc with Dragon Stompy, win 2-0
He wins the dice roll (which is bad) and takes double mulligan (which is very good ). I keep my seven. He tries to play turn 1 Chalice of the Void, which I promptly FoW. He never recovers and I can play unimpeded until I can combo off.
Sideboard +1 Explosives +1 Echoing Truth -1 Boseiju -1 Preordain
He starts again, with Ancient Tomb, go. I have a lot of pieces of the combo, but I'm light on lands (only 1 Island and 1 Tomb in hand). I play Brainstorm turn 2 and I don't see any lands, so I decide against playing my Tomb on turn 2 and try to win turn 3 with the cards on top of my deck. He plays a Smokestack and sends the turn back to me. I play Tomb, Show and Tell. It resolves. I deploy Omniscience and he puts a Trinisphere into play. Now that Smokestack will be a problem. He ramps the first soot counter and passes. On my upkeep, I play Brainstorm off my 2 lands and I find a fetchland and an Echoing Truth on top (lucky bst!). I sac my Island, draw, play the fetchland and pass. He ramps the Smoky to 2, plays a Chalice @ 1 and passes back. On my upkeep I fetch and Island and bounce his Trinisphere, so I can play LDV to find a Cunning Wish, which I draw on my draw step. From there I can win searching FF for Brainstorm, LDV and Cunning and covering him in Ants.

Round 4, Alberto with BURG Delver, lose 0-2
He starts, nobody mulligans. I lose quickly to early beats from a Tarmogoyf, a Delver and a Gurmag Angler. He wastelands my Underground Sea, and although I can find the pieces of my combo, I don't have the time to assemble them. I needed another turn, and another land instead of Boseiju (the "comes into play tapped" clause was a huge drawback in this game).
    Sideboard +1 EE +1 Toxic, -1 Emrakul -1 Preordain
I start and I greedily play Island, Ponder instead of Fetch, Swamp, Thoughtseize. So is he who Thoughtseizes me, discard my Show and Tell and Surgicals it. My mistake costs me the game.

Overall I'm really satisfied with the performance of the deck. Lim-Dûl's Vault is an absolute all-star. Even the fact that LDV puts the cards on top of your library is good when you want to win with Release the Ants. About the wishboard, I was not especially convinced on Trickbind, but in the end it was very good, not for avoiding comes-into-play sheanigans from the opponent, but simply to stop the Storm deck I've found round 1. I might try Surgical Extraction instead of Rebuild in the next tournaments; seeing the opponent's hand prior to combo is never a bad thing.

And this is it. I'll try to write more reports if I find the time to do it. Sorry for my bad English and enjoy!

@gRR!! Thanks for the report. Glad to see this deck is still seeing some play.

How did you like Spell Pierce over Daze? Were there situations where it was strictly better?

The thing is, I don't really like Daze in this deck; I don't want to take a step back developing my mana. The matches I suffer the more are those where I'm in trouble playing one land per turn (or when I get wastelanded). I'd rather pay the extra U for Pierce. Maybe this makes me more vulnerable to early game discard, but I'm OK with that.

Does anyone know about how far back to go in the thread to find the advent of the UB build? I am trying to learn this version and would love to get caught up.

I'd say probably about page 111 with emidln's list. That's when I picked this deck up again and started doing well with it. Since then LDV has been pretty commonplace in the deck.

    Re: [Deck] MonoU OmniTell

    Hey there folks,

Another small tournament (19 people this time) yesterday at inGenio Games in Barcelona. I made 3-1 again, ending 3rd or 4th, not sure. The list was the exact 75 than last week (see above post). I wanted to swap Rebuild for Surgical Extraction, but I forgot to do it . My matches were:

Round 1, Marc with a strange W/R concoction with Isochron Scepters, Disenchants, Orim's Chant, Nahiri and whatnot, won 2-1. I lost 1st match to an unexpected Unexpectedly Absent on my Omniscience in response to my Cunning. I searched for Noxious Revival, which was a mistake given that he already had Nahiri on the battlefield. I didn't have time to reassemble and conceeded before he ultimates me. 2nd match he plays Orim's Chant in response to my Show and Tell for Omniscience, so I combo him on his next turn (here I forgot to take out my 2 Boseijus; obviously I drew both of them in my first seven). 3rd match (without Boseijus!) I counter his Chant in response to Show and Tell to Omniscience; he deploys his Emrakul from S&T, I play mine from Omniscience and I won shortly later.

Round 2, Adrià with RIP Miracles, lost 0-2. I drew horribly the two matches, including a mulligan to 5 game 2. Match 1, after cantripping through half my deck and not finding Omniscience nor LDV, I Show and Tell for Emrakul. He puts into play Detention Sphere; I Cunning for Wipe Away, Wipe his Sphere and then he miracles Terminus. The match eats away something like 40 minutes, so 2nd match I try to blindly combo out as fast as I can, only to find a Force from him. I cannot recover and lose the match. I missed a 3rd Boseiju in the side. My opponent was really excited with this version of Omni-Tell and we even chatted about it on WhatsApp after the tournament

Round 3, Àlvar with Jund, won 2-1. I think game 1 had no history, I won turn 3, maybe countering some of his discard. Game 2 I Thoughseized him to see Hymn and Liliana; I took his Hymn and let Liliana resolve. I had no time to assemble the pieces before he tore apart my hand and beat me to death with Bloodbraid Elf and DRS. 3rd match I Pierced his turn 1 Thoughtseize, Flustered his turn 2 Duress and FoW'd his turn 3 Liliana. Turn 4 I had a hand of Land, Show and Tell, Emrakul, so I decided to deploy the Flying Spaghetti Monster to not to lose my Show and Tell to more discard. He doesn't have a second Liliana so I managed to win next turn.

Round 4, David with R/W Burn, won 2-1. My first hand is slow and full of not optimal cards (like Thoughtseizes and the like). Eventually I find all the pieces except for Show and Tell, which I have to search with LDV while being at 1 life. Fortunately S&T is in the top 5 of the deck, so I manage to win. I punt 2nd match out of fear: I could S&T for Emrakul as early as turn 2, but I don't want him to play Bridge, so I wait for Omniscience. It happens that I waited for too long and found myself again at 1 life and looking for Omni through LDV. This time I'm not so lucky and I don't find the missing piece, so in my turn I play S&T to Emrakul (he deploys a land, I think). He doesn't have any cards in hand and only a Goblin Guide in play, so if he doesn't hit a burn spell I might live until next turn and maybe win the game. He draws a land (he even shows it to me), so he keeps it in hand and passes the turn back. I draw Spell Pierce (I knew it was there from LDV) and confidently attack with Emrakul, wiping his board and leaving him at 4 life. He draws, plays his land and a freshly topdecked Goblin Guide that I can't Pierce . For match 3 I have all the combo in hand but only 1 land; anyway my 2 cantrips fetch me the 2 lands I need to win covering him in ants.

Overall, I'm still really happy with the deck. I lost a couple of matches due to variance, punted another one and lost another to Liliana and heavy discard. I can live with that. For next week, I'll try adding a Boseiju and Surgical Extraction to the sideboard instead of Rebuild and Ravenous Trap. I'll try to make a report too.

So, see you all next week. Sorry for my poor English and enjoy!

I don't really see it for OmniTell. Firstly, because I like to have 2/3 Emrakuls maindeck to deal with Miracles, Death and Taxes and the Trinisphere decks; second, because we already play Cunning Wish, which can fetch Eladamri's Call to Emrakul. Plus, we want our Emrakuls maindeck to show them when we clash Release the Ants. Maybe in some other eldrazi shell Coax would be playable, but not in OmniTell IMHO.

Even with Delirium it still costs 4, so not that impressive.

Yeah, this is only slightly better than Jace's Ingenuity and Delirium really isn't that easy to achieve in the deck.

People said the same of DTT when it was first introduced.

"legacy has lots of GY hate"
    "8 mana..."
"how often would you have 6 cards in GY"
