This is a Red/White combo deck built around the combo of Ali from Cairoand Aetherflux Reservoir.

The deck also runs Fortune Thief and Worship which act like more copies of Ali from Cairo. Ancient Tomb, Battlefield Forge, and Mana Confluence also can help self-mill down to one life, and Near-Death Experience can act as an alternative win condition. Copies of Lightning Greaves help to protect the creatures in the deck. SDT's and Tutors help search for what you need, while Swords and Wear/Tear act as some hate.

This deck is still a work in progress so any advice or suggestions would me much appreciated. I know the casting costs for a lot of the pieces are high for legacy, but might this have legs? I haven't dug deep into the sideboard but image it could be similar to that of death and taxes. I'm also thinking about possibly including Aether Vial, Mother of Ruins and or Phyrexian Revoker.

I think the combo is non-existing. Ali and fortune thief helps to keep you alive from damage. And you can't pay 50 lives if you don't have it.

Well that's disappointing :( What about the card Mages' Contest can you bid more life than you have? Arguably you are "loosing" it, even if damage taking you below 1 is prevented?

I think the rules state somewhere that you can't bid more life than you have or that put you on zero (on that last bit I'm not sure)

Damage is different from loss of life.With Ali out, lightning bolt can't kill you, hust Bump in the Night still can. You also cannot pay costs with resources you don't have. There is no way to even activate Aetherflux unless you pay 50 life. So this combo does not work for 2 reasons.

Ali does work with Madcap Experiment but there are better choices (like Soulfire Grand Master) for that.

Reservoir certainly has potential as a storm card too.

It might not work out well with aetherflux but you might have something with the near death experience. The thought is not worth abandoning.
