Hi all,
First and foremost, let me apologize for this coming out 1 week after my event. For a number of reasons, my school year is very busy, and I did not have any time at all to write this report. Anyway, here goes:
First some general thoughts, then the results.
Attendance: Many people on these boards described the turnout as poor and disappointing claiming that Legacy is on the decline. I see this is not the case. I think that there are the same number of players, just being split between more events. The end result is just that: more tourneys. This may not be a bad thing for players, but it could be for Tournament Organizers. As for myself, was I disappointed with the turnout? Absolutely not. I run my events because I enjoy them, not to make money. As long as I don’t lose money, I will continue to run them and make them as fun as possible.
Breaking even:
I did not lose money. After taking some hits on different events I have made an excel spreadsheet that factors in all my costs(one of the big ones being hiring staff) and entry fee collected. It allocated money for raffle prizes, Magic Trivia prizes, etc and tells me what I should set the top 8 prizes at to at least break even.
Actually, I wish I could have given more. The thing that really bugged me was the scaling down to 5-8. Those who finished here only got their entry fee back or $30 store credit. It felt lame to me that someone could top 8 and only get that. I am going to continue to find ways to make top 8 a little more than breaking even(maybe something cool and nostalgic).
Love Legacy:
This event was another reminder that Legacy is starting to grow on me ALMOST as much as Vintage(though I’ll always be a Vintage boy at heart). I am very thankful to all of you for all your support and can’t wait to hold more events for all of you to enjoy,
Judges/Scorekeepers: The staff I had working with me was great. For consistency purpose, I passed along almost all penalty issues to my head judge, but we all answered rules questions. Only one mistake was made(a ruling about Humility), and even though I always strive for 100%, I was very happy with the quality of Derek Macatavey, Chris Kitzmiller, and Scott Hughes.
Gamingetc: As always a big thanks to Gamingetc for allowing us to use their huge store.
Magic Trivia/Scattegories: We had 6 teams and 5 teams for these respectively(about 20-25 players in each). Everyone seemed to have a great time. If you have never played either of these games, you have no idea what you are missing.
On to the data:
Day 1 had 57 players. Here are the standings after 6 rounds of swiss:

Ray
I would like to thank Ray for a great event!!! This was my first MLO and I had a blast. The prizes I recived for finishing in 16th day one and 8th day two were ok by me. I was just there to have fun and play legacy. I can't wait for TMLO IV, maybe this time I will not drink so much the night before, maybe.![]()
Thanks for posting the lists.
That's probably the most stable looking Goblins list I've seen Props to Jeff for putting up the results.
I'm glad you had a good time running the event and didn't lose any money. I wasn't able to go to this one, so hopefully the next time you have one of these I'll be able to go.
Thanks again Ray. Just so you know, Yarrington sent me some shiny Raiders and Pit-Dragons after hearing about the deck. It seems I qualified for the TMWA bonus plan.
Please tell him I said thank you; an IP ban makes it difficult for me to get on TMD.
Any idea when number four might be?
proxys > IP bans, seriosuly, one of my teammates has been banned from this site 4 times and can STILL read it or post again, if he wants :)
Ray - THANK YOU for hosting this tournament, and having the best prize system ever!
Ray, do you happen to have any of the other decklists from these events?
"Good, bad, I'm the guy with the gun." --Ash
Ray, this was a great tournament and a lot of fun for all the players that attended. It was also nice to see a lot of the Legacy players coming from all regions of the Northeast to attend this event.
I'm definitely looking forward to the next Mana Leak Open.
Keep up the good work Ray.

Legacy thanks you, Ray. Seriously.
EDIT: Day 2 I did better than Nightmare and lonelybaritone. Suck it.
EDIT2: TONIGHT I POSTED IN HELLLLLLL! (Post 300.)

If nobody has shotgun-ed the lists then I'll type them up. I don't know about submitting the events to Star City or whatever, but I can do a bitch barrell full of clerical work any day of the week.
In short, PM me if you're interested.
501!!
It's true, Scattergories is not my strong point. However, I again win Magic Trivia (with a healthy 4 point lead I might add), and we ALL KNOW that THAT'S the reason I go to these tournaments. Oh, and to give Ray my 25 dollars. :)
Seriously though Ray, great event, I can't wait for the next one. Who knows? Maybe I'll ACTUALLY Top8 and won't be able to play Trivia, wouldn't that be unfortunate?
Thanks for taking the time to post the standings and the lists (one week after the event is more than reasonable considering the typing involved). A bunch of us here would really like to rent a car and drive from Montreal to one of your events one day... good job to you !
Aside:
I don't think Legacy is on the decline, well not where I live anyways. We've been doing tournaments once every two weeks and around 30 people show up every time (since about a year). Hope it continues in that direction for the year to come...
I would also like to thank you Ray for a great tournament. I'm very glad I made the effort to drive down to this and find a place to stay so i could be there both days.
I'm not sure if this is usualy the case with events this size, but i noticed on day two that of the 48 people who signed up, only 20 actualy played in round 6. Is that normal? I mean there were a grand total of 4 people who played in round 6 and didnt get prizes (i was one of them, lol, wish i'd done the same day 1, but i dropped to do side event for some reason).
Do people realy only go to these tournaments for the prizes and drop out as soon as they think they cant make top 8 (there were two people with 3-3 records in top 16 of day 2 so i know a lot of people dropped who could have made top 16, but not top 8).
I was just curiuos if there is some way to encourage people to stay in the tournament for the full swiss rounds... maybe give a small prize to like a random place (say 27th place or something) just to give people an incentive for staying in the tourny.
PS, loved the magic trivia game, even if i wasnt too good at it... Great idea and tradition. I probably should have stuck around for the scategories, but decided to get home at a reasonable hour instead.
Thanks again for a great tourny.
A large number of people drop early from Ray's tournaments since he has the free side events that start after round 3 or so.
Most tournaments that have any sort of side event generally has a large drop off of people once they are no longer in contention.
As for Day 2 since it was a Sunday there is a question of whether staying around and holding up all your buddies that are already eliminated is worth the 1-3 packs that you might get.
I guess that makes sense about day 2 then... i hadnt realy thought of it that way. I guess i'm approaching it from a "if i'm traveling and paying to play in a tournament, i'll play in all of it". I dont realy understand people who drive down for hours, pay a 25 entry fee and then play 2 rounds and drop. Fine you're not gonna win the prize, but if all you're here for is the prizes, then wouldnt it have made more sense to just save the gas/lodging money and just buy the prizes at your local store?
About the side event actualy, is there a reason that it's made a single ellimination tourny? I assume the point of the side event is to give those people who have dropped from the main tourny something to do with their time, but making it single elim just counteracts that as half the people are knocked out round 2 (round 1 is all byes, so its not half).
