    [Deck] BG reanimator

So, I think that this deck deserves a thread... a seasoned magic veterin at my local tourney likes to play this deck time to time to take a first place finish for the stor cred.

    I present the list:

    Artifact Creatures
    1 Sundering Titan

    Creatures
    1 Angel Of Despair
    1 Blazing Archon
1 Bringer Of The Blue Dawn
    1 Phantom Nishoba
    4 Putrid Imp
    1 Simic Sky Swallower
    1 Symbiotic Wurm
    1 Thunder Dragon

    Enchantments
    3 Animate Dead
    2 Pernicious Deed
    2 Recurring Nightmare

    Instants
    4 Dark Ritual

    Legendary Creatures
    1 Akroma, Angel Of Wrath
    1 Braids, Cabal Minion

    Sorceries
    4 Buried Alive
    4 Cabal Therapy
    4 Exhume
    4 Reanimate
    2 Sickening Dreams

    Basic Lands
    5 Swamp

    Lands
    4 Bayou
    3 Overgrown Tomb
    4 Polluted Delta
    2 Windswept Heath

    Sideboard:
    4 Defense Grid
    3 Choke
    2 Pernicious Deed
    4 Naturalize
    2 Sickening Dreams

the deck trounces creature based decks, while not having an auto loss to various kinds of control.

it is quite resiliant, as well as fun to play.

this deck's creatures all have a role besides beating face..

do you guys have any thoughts/comments about the deck.

Rod took 5th at one of the D4Ds taking on many known players and beating them with his wild card deck... I recall IBA being in total disbeleif that his precious truffle shuffle lost to a reanimator deck.... how sad .

    Re: BG reanimator

I played this exact deck against someone on MWS. Needless to say, I was playing a fun deck and got destroyed.

Have you considered Last Rites and maybe LED and Infernal Tutor? Think of all the synergy those cards have together. You can pop an LED and Infernal Tutor for a reanimating spell and cast it on a creature put into the yard by LED. You also need something like Last Rites whenever you draw those nasty large critters in your hand but have no way of putting it into your graveyard. The only reason I'm suggesting Infernal Tutor is because I believe the deck needs more tutoring power, but besides that, the deck looks promising. Just my two cents.

really the only tutoring the deck requires is in the specific creatures it wants to play, which is why buried alive is in the deck... with 14 ways to put your dudes in the yard (besides waiting till you have more than 7 in hand) & 15 reanimation spells, the need of tutors for such needs seems kinda frivilous to me... have yet to test it though (can't bask it before I try it)..

I will try it out and get back to you on the results.

Needs more Pernicious Deeds. That card is THE reason to run B/G in this format. Drop some reanimation targets for it. You dont need that many, especially not Braids, and Symbiotic Wurm gets less awesome with more Deeds.

    -1 Braids
    -1 Symbiotic Wurm
    +2 Pernicious Deed

Will give you a better, no, an amazing game against ANYTHING that runs permanents.

    Re: BG reanimator

braids & wurm have awesome synergy with recurring nightmare, making braids free for you & popping out a shit load of insects with the wurm... I do agree that deed is that shit though... perhapes just drop the braids for an additional one and leave it as that..

I have yet to test such things, not seeing that any portion of the deck needs tweeking in any way shape or form.

deed is awesome, but it is just simply a stall tactic for the deck so that it can sweep the board (or act as a timewalk which does happen) and bide you time to kill with the fatty that's waiting in the deck.

    Capitalization please. Thanks. - Zilla

yay! someone is talking about my deck .

its a good resilient deck as mentioned before... only really falling prey to land destruction and mono black.

creature decks are a good match, and the deck has so many combinations to gt a turn 1 or two creature that you dont really need a tutor. you just have to know when to mulligan and be a good player. this is a combo deck! duh!

Grammar, capitalization, punctuation. Reuired on these boards. Use them in the future. Many thanks. - Zilla

I have been testing this deck a lot now, it is fairly consistent, but it does need something! Some sort of tutor or draw power. I played a ThreshUGR deck for example. Game One I beat him, because he wasn't aware of what I was playing. Game Two he just countered every spell that would put creatures into the yard and by the time he could counter no more he had amazing board position. I don't really know much about drawing with black and green, what are some ideas maybe?
The list I play also has 3 deeds and no braids.

    Black has Night's Whisper.
Green has Wall of Blossoms and Sylvan Library for card selection.

So, how fast and resilient is this deck? What makes this better then any other combo deck in the format? Can it outrace goblins? Can it play though a control deck like landstill? How does this dodge hate that might be used against it?

    Re: [Deck] BG reanimator

well, against blue control you either try to go for a first turn imp or buried alive... after you already have the 'threats' in the yard you can simply just keep trying to reanimate until you do so (you run 14-16 reanimation spells, depending on build; and they run 8-9 countermagic spells)... game 2 against blue control is the same except they have to waste a countermagic on grid.

against aggro-control you simply need to do the same thing, but try to resolve the reanimate faster and then you outclass their creatures and kill them.

this definitely beats goblins (1st, or second turn creature), or you deed/recurring nightmare for rediculous card advantage... as well as dream to sweep the board to also put threats in the yard; you board in the other deeds.

dodging hate (like crypt) is done by baiting/destroying... I'll explain.

you have 2 creatures in hand, you want the second 1 but you put the first 1 in the yard and try to reanimate (they crypt)... now you either wait or you put the second 1 in the yard immediately and reanimate then and there.

If you have a buried alive then go for 1 creature (usually a good, but not extremely good), they will either crypt in response to a reanimation spell, or let it resolve knowing your holding back (but now you have a fatty on board!!!).

leyline is probably one of the touhgest things to see, you basically need to board in your naturalize or just try to deed for 4 (good luck with that venture)...

the draw in the deck is provided by bringer; he makes control decks weep when unanswered.
